SACRAMENT OF PENANCE St. Francis: Saturday 4:00-4:30 pm After the 6:30 am morning Masses Before the 5:15 pm Mass on Wed. Before the 8:30 am Mass on First Fri. St. Joseph: 7:30 am before Sun. Mass St. Peter & Paul: After Mass Wednesday St. Boniface: After Mass Tuesday St. Paul 8:30 am before Sunday Mass SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE For those who are free to marry, marriage preparation takes at least six months. Contact a priest for further information. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Parents expecting the birth of their first and second child must participate in a preparation session, preferably six months prior to birth. December 4, 2016 2nd Sunday of Advent FROM FR. QUINT We celebrated Fr. Dole’s birthday this past week. He en- joyed the clown, balloon artwork, bounce house, cotton candy, and playing with his friends. I told them they needed to go to bed by midnight. There are so many responsibilities of having a recently ordained priest.☺ When I asked Fr. Dole what I should write about in the col- umn this week, he encouraged me to write about our Blessed Mother. After all, this week on Thursday we will celebrate the beginning of her life on earth, her immaculate conception in the womb of her mom, Anna, with the cooperation of her dad, Joachim. She is the patroness of the USA. In addition, on Dec 12 we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Finally, on the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will hear the gospel from Mat- thew recounting how she conceived a child through the gift of the Holy Spirit. How could we not take added time during this holy season and pay attention to our Blessed Mother? Praying a rosary, offering a litany, just being quiet and asking her for guid- ance. She longs to have us join her in heaven. May we never fail to turn to her in good times and in bad so that we can receive the graces of her son and be led closer to the beatific vision of heaven. This week we’ll be hearing confessions at Xavier Elementary School. Pray for everyone coming to confession in this sea- son of preparation. Parents – stop in at one of the many opportunities of the season. Your financial generosity to our parishes at this time of year will hopefully allow us to catch up according to our adult budget envelope goals. The memorial of St. Nicolas is Tuesday. Be sure to put out your empty shoes to see if he fills them. Friday is the memorial of St. Juan Diego. Our Lady of Guad- alupe appeared to him near Mexico City in the 16 th century. The solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary is a holy day of obligation. See you at one of the Masses. See you at breakfast next Sunday at St. Paul Worthington. Next Sunday we’ll have 4 priests on hand for confessions at the Communal Penance Service in New Vienna at 2 pm. What a great outpouring of grace. The Beckman Catholic Christmas Vocal Music Christmas concert is next Sunday night at 6 pm at the basilica. Rev. John O’Connor, Pastor Rev. Dennis J. Quint, Pastor Rev. Jeffrey A. FROM FR. QUINT We celebrated Fr. Dole’s birthday this past week. He en-
joyed the clown, balloon artwork, bounce house, cotton candy, and playing with his friends. I told them they needed to go to bed by midnight. There are so many responsibilities of having a recently ordained priest.

IMMIGRATION SIMULATION The parishes of Cathedral of St. Raphael and St. Patrick Church will be hosting an immigration simulation at the Cathe- dral on Jan. 7th from 9am-12pm, with a free lunch to follow. Participation is free of charge. The simulation will allow partici- pants to get a glimpse of the process and some of the chal- lenges faced by migrants to come to the USA and stay here. Every 15 minutes a bell rings and that signals that 4 years has passed. The total time is 24 years. Participants can register at cathedralstpats.org/gettinginline.
CHARITY TO OUR SCHOOLS & TAX CREDITS Time if running out! We anticipate reaching our goal in early December given the current pace of gifts to the STO (School Tuition Organization). Ushers - Ron Honkomp, Brad & Lois Lawrence. Scrip - Lynne Radabaugh, Sandi White. Retirement Fund for Religious: Your donation works for aging religious. "I read that roughly 95% of donations to the Re- tirement Fund for Religious aid senior religious," a donor writes. "That's wonderful when we truly want our donations to work." Your gift works for elderly religious by helping to furnish medications, nursing care and more. Please support next week's collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, and give to those who have given a lifetime. Scrip - Scrip - Scrip!!! If you are not using it , you are throwing money away. Now that doesn’t make good sense. Why do I say this? Because if you use Scrip, a percentage of what you paid for an item goes to your parish or school, or you may designate it for the tuition of a student either in grade school or high school. If you do not use Scrip, the whole pur- chase price and all the profit goes to the company from whom you made the purchase. Take a minute and stop at the Scrip table at Mass or one of the banks where they sell Scrip, and purchase the Scrip you need. The holiday season is here! Christmas Mass Schedule: Christmas Eve: 4:00 p.m. at New Vienna and 7:00 p.m. at Petersburg. Christmas Day: 7:00 a.m. at New Vienna and 9:00 a.m. at Petersburg. New Year's weekend schedule: is the regular weekend schedule. Saturdays in Advent: Want to ask a question? Do you wish to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation? In either case, mark your calendar for Saturdays during Advent. During Advent, we pastors plan to spend a little more time in church, ei- ther to answer your question or to administer reconciliation. Since I have two parishes, I will be at Petersburg on two Sat- urdays, Dec. 3rd and 17th, and at New Vienna on the other two Saturdays, Dec. 10th and 24th. On all those dates, I will be there at 11:00 a.m. You may notice that the other priests of the Cluster are sitting in a pew. I will most likely be in the con- fessional, which can also be used as a conference room, because the heater is in there and it is warmer. Bulletin deadlines: Bulletins are going to press early some weeks between now and New Year's. Play it safe and send all articles in a week before you think you need to have them in.

RESIDUE OF THE ESTATE After all of the specific bequests have been made and your estate costs and taxes have been paid, the balance of the estate is called the residue. Many donors decide to leave a percentage of the residue to charity. Some donors give charity a spe- cific percentage. Another option is to give to all of your charities a share that is equal to the share of your beneficiaries. For example, one donor had two children and divided her estate into three shares. Each child received one share and the chari- ties collectively divided the third share. Treating your charities as one child and simply dividing the estate with one share for each child and one share for favorite charities is a very convenient way to benefit your favorite charities.
