SOCIAL MEDIA SOCIAL MEDIA –– SOMETSOMETHING TO CONSIDER.HING TO CONSIDER.

Did you know that there are minimum age requirements for social media sites? For Facebook this is 13 years.

Do you and your children know about the potential implications of sharing personal information online?

Personal information is shared by millions of internet users daily and is usually managed safely and effectively by legitimate online entities. That said, personal information can be misused if it is disclosed in online environments that are not secure. This includes social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook. Protecting personal information is each user’s responsibility.

Not only do marketers use personal information to target advertising and promotions to specific age groups, interests or geographic areas, the criminal use of personal information is of greater concern. Criminals can piece together specific pieces of personal information to construct the identity of a person. This identity can then be used to apply for credit cards, utility services (like mobile phone contracts) and to commit fraud. This information can also be used to identify users (your child) and where they live.

Have you or your child considered the content included on your social networking site? ACMA Cybersmart website www.cybersmart.gov.au/parents.aspx provides age-appropriate resources to teach children about the appropriate use of personal information online. This Cybersafety site also provides important tips for parents and students.

CHOIR UPDATECHOIR UPDATE

A quick note to give you some details regarding our performance at the Ellenbrook Christmas Festival on Saturday, 9 December, this weekend! We have our last rehearsal this Thursday morning at 8am. We'd love you all to come and see us this weekend. We are performing at 2pm. We will finish on stage by 2.15pm. Children will need to arrive and meet me at the side of the stage by 1.30pm. Apart from the time on stage, children will remain under the duty of care of their parents at all times. This means parents need to stay on site. After the performance, children will be released back to their parents. This stage time will allow children to also participate in the pageant, commencing at 4pm, with dance studios etc. The event is in the grassed area opposite Ellenbrook Dome. Children will need to wear their school uniform for the performance, but can also wear tinsel, antlers, Rudolph noses or anything else festive. The songs we are performing are Deck the Sheds, Santa Wear Your Shorts and Silent Night. All of these songs can be found on YouTube. Children are required to perform without their lyric sheets. If you'd like more info on the amazing event, please visit https://www.ellenbrookcollective.com.au/ or https://www.facebook.com/ellenbrookcommunitycollective/ Please contact me any time if you have any further questions via email [email protected] We will also be performing Santa Wear Your Shorts at both Book Awards Assemblies in week 10. Thank you, Chris Spencer Music Specialist

FOOD BANKFOOD BANK

The Hovea Block has been busy collecting cans for Food Bank WA. We have collected well over 500 cans and other non-perishable foods for people in need. Food Bank W.A helps over 652,000 people every month. Thank you to all of the families who donated.

STUDENT MEDICATION TO BE COLLECTEDSTUDENT MEDICATION TO BE COLLECTED

If your child has medication kept at school, families are required to collect the medication from the Administration office by the end of Thursday, 14 December. Upon collection of your child’s medication, new medical forms will be given to you to complete for the 2018 school year.

Please return these forms, along with medication to the Administration office at the commencement of the 2018 school year. DO NOT give any medication (including Asthma inhalers) directly to the classroom teacher, as all medical conditions must be recorded with the Administration office. Teachers will then be notified of any student’s medical conditions.

STAFF FAREWELL STAFF FAREWELL -- MRS HEALEYMRS HEALEY

We have many talented students at APS and would like to share some of the fabulous work recently undertaken by the Year 6 students. “Every child is an artist. The problem is

how to remain an artist once he grows up” . Pablo Picasso

Hello Aveley Families, We would like to thank everyone for your ongoing support over the last year. The P&C wouldn’t be able operate and have the successful year we’ve had if it wasn’t for all of our volunteers. Thank you so much to you all, your help is really appreciated. Thank you to all the parents and students that have supported our canteen. We have had a successful year and we hope to continue growing next year. We will continue to serve meals until the end of this term. We shall reopen for orders next year on Monday, 5 February. Next year the canteen will be open on Mondays and Fridays. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates. Our next meeting is our AGM on Monday, 5 February at 6 pm in the staff room. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year . Your Aveley P&C Committee [email protected]
