CONFIDENTIAL 2

The DeviceNet detective is quickly becoming the DeviceNet troubleshooting tool of choice for users. It is a compact, user friendly tool that quickly pinpoints DNET problems and facilitates troubleshooting.

The major troubleshooting applications are discovering voltage problems and CAN errors.

Advantages of the detective include:

•Powered by the network. There is no need for a separate power source.

•It has simple buttons for easy software navigation.

•It is easily carried into and out of fabs.

•It has a timing function that lets you keep it connected to the tool for tracking of intermittent DNET problems.

Initial power up

The device can only be plugged into one network at a time. This means that you will either be monitoring the mainframe network or the individual chamber network.

Bus Diagnostics

a) Supply Voltage—current voltage (monitored at approximately 100 samples per second, withthe primary purpose of detecting overload)

b) Lowest Voltage—lowest values recordedduring the last 60 seconds. Will automaticallyreset.

c) Highest Voltage—highest values recordedduring the last 60 seconds. Does not recordhigh frequency noise. Will automatically reset.

d) CAN Baud Rate—125, 250, 500 kbd

e) BusLoad—amount of traffic (expressed inpercent); bandwidth of the CAN bus currentlyin use.

f) CAN bus error rate—number of errorsexpressed per second.

g) Total CAN errors since power turn-on.

h) CAN_L voltage

i) CAN_H voltage

Message Traffic

This menu component indicates which nodes areactively accepting or creating messages and which nodesare inactive.

a) The letter “S” shows source of messages sent; theletter “D” shows that the node received messages asa destination.

b) Error Count equals approximately 1-2% of allerrors detected at that node.

Notes: A “DUP MAC ID Check Request” is sent forthe operational baud rate. The first node detected ofDUP MAC ID nodes will be listed in the messagetraffic screen. Remaining duplicate nodes are notlisted. If a DUP MAC ID node is not listed, this noderequires a MAC ID change.

Device Diagnostics

DeviceNet Detective will scan/detect all installed devicesand will display all information provided by the nodeobject. The user can either make a new network scan orrequest an update to an existing scan to refresh theoriginal data scanned

By highlighting a device and selecting Enter, the user willreceive additional configuration information as availablefrom device. Specific information lists details about themaster device connection, faults, capabilities, connections, device types, product codes, revisions, andserial numbers.

Note: The DeviceNet Detective may return a“Limited Info Available” message which means that theMaster controlling the network interrupted theDetective during the query process. Limitedinformation does not mean the node is defective. Pleasetry the scan again.

Problem List

This menu component is a working field that will reportmajor errors detected and the duration of time inseconds, minutes, or hours, since the event was firstdetected. Press the “Refresh” button to update anyevents that have occurred while “Problem List” is open.Although some events generate new screen lines for eachoccurrence, generally, duration updates and descriptionchanges will be revised relative to subsequent events.D E ET T T T E E E E C C I I V V

DeviceNet Reference

Use DeviceNet Reference to obtain information on:connector pinouts, baud rates and node LED’s (solid, blinking, cyclic) and other data.only from slaves/masters.

Detective Settings

a) Detective Baud Rate—must match bus beingchecked.b) MAC ID—ID of Detectivec) Supply Alarms—Set this parameter to thelowest supply voltage acceptable to theapplication.d) Network Detection Setup Speed— TheDeviceNet Detective has a programmablenode detection speed feature. This featureshould be set to a high number (100) fornetworks with high busloads, or a lownumber (< 10) for networks with very lowbusload. To configure the DeviceNetDetective, follow these steps

•Start the Detective•Move the cursor on the main menu to the•Detective Settings Selection•Move the cursor down to the messagedelay position•Set value desired and depress “SAVE”•Press “OK”

e) Scan Delay – Manages the scan timing ofgroup 3 messages. Setting this parameter to“YES” , will normally improve informationretrievalf) LCD Settings—screen contrast settingschangeable for lighting conditions.g) Reset—resets the Detective.

Notes and Restrictions

•A displayed status message shows that a “Problem List” (see Menu item no. 4.4) entry has been generated/updated.

•The red LED indicates “important message” or “error”.

•If a dynamic data field (such as supply voltage or busloads) is highlighted/selected, current snapshot values are provided tothe user. To view rapidly changing values, do not move the highlight bar onto a field.

•DeviceNet communication reflects “Group 2” messages only from slaves/masters.

•Identification of a device with the wrong baud rate setting is limited to detection in bus off mode only. DeviceNet does not support the use of multiple baud rates per network. Multiple baud rates force a bus off operation. (NOTE: Detection in bus off mode of multiple baud rates must be resolved either by reprogramming from DeviceNet Detective or from the master.)

•When “Reset” is selected and any button is pressed, the Detective will immediately execute as system reset— without saving any settings.

•Firmware cannot be updated in the field. Contact Grid Connect, Naperville, IL Phone: 800-975-GRID, 630-245-1445

•Emails for requests of features or updates can be made to [email protected].
