DISTRICT 14 L LIONS NEWS Message from District Governor Gerald Chapman… January 2014 Lion Amy Higgins, Editor [email protected] Fellow Lions, Lioness, and Leos News Years. Welcome 2014. Ready or not, here it is. We don't know what changes will have to be made in our lives at the beginning of the year. We do know as Lions we have pledged to serve others at our induction ceremony. The Lions are better able to serve as a group. There are people who would like to serve with a group. Keep asking, some may need asked more than one time. It is great to see an interest from District 14 - L in the Regional Lions Leadership Institute. It provides a support base for the DG and VDG's as well as a group to continue the leadership the district will need in the future. The club visitations restart after the December intermission. It is good to meet Lions from the past and the new ones adding to the service. There were Leos at the Fall Rally and District Christmas Party. Hopefully some of them will be able to participate in the Leo Rally at Beacon Lodge in April. There are opportunities to serve through the winter months: Food Banks, Red Cross Blood Mobiles, checking in on home bound neighbors for meds and groceries, perhaps even a hot meal. There are meetings above club level coming up: PA Lions Council Meeting Jan 31 - Feb1, District 14 - L Cabinet Feb. 9, and keep April 26 on your calendar for the District 14 - L Convention. Let's make 2014 a great Lions year. Yours in Lionism Happy New Year from DG Gerald and Lion Sue Special Thank You Joyce Miller wishes to express her deepest gratitude for everyones prayers, notes, flowers, & sympathy extended since the passing of her beloved husband, Gene.

Message from 2nd VDG Michael…

Message from 1st VDG Anna…

Here we are about to start a new year. I hope everyone has a healthy and prosperous year. Did you make your new year’s resolutions? Let’s all make one to start off this year by helping to make your clubs a better and stronger club. Keep asking for members; don’t give up after just one time. Start working on planning your summer activities & your community projects, the time will be here before we know it. Remember to mark your calendars for the district convention, the state convention, and the international convention. This is going to be a busy time for me. I will be working on getting my cabinets positions filled, so if you are interested in holding a position, or have any suggestions or ideas, please let me know. Yours in Lionism, Happy New Year! Anna Clark and Dennis Clark

I am hoping that everyone had a joyful Christmas with family and friends. I know around my house things get a little crazy around the Christmas holiday, but we are now getting back to our normal routine. Are your clubs getting back to the normal routine? Is that a good thing or does your club need some change? I think from time to time we all need some change to happen. If your club needs some change make sure it’s a positive change. And if you’re not sure what change to make you need look no farther than the clubs around you to see what they are doing. Another place to talk to Lions from other clubs is at our cabinet meetings and socials. So plan on attending. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. Let’s make this a year to remember in Lions. Make sure to get your events and activities list in our district’s newsletter, but better yet let’s get them in the local papers and news stations. Let us all tell the world what Lions are doing “to serve” the needs of everyone. Yours in Lionism, Michael Brown

WORLD LUNCH RELAY International President Barry Palmer has named April as Family and Friends Month to assist in these efforts and to bring attention to Lionism and all that we do to serve others. This special event will begin with a Lions World Lunch Relay to unite families and friends from local communities with families and friends from around the world. Clubs can plan to have a luncheon, tea, fashion show, etc. to celebrate each club’s accomplishments and to recognize the importance of service and the rewards of being a Lion. This affair will begin at noon in New Zealand and travel throughout each of the time zones around the globe on April 4, becoming the World’s Lunch Relay.

After planning your club’s event, register the time and location with Lions Clubs International (LCI) by going to the LCI website. Remember to take pictures and share them on your club’s website, with the local newspaper, as well as LCI.   Banner patches will be awarded to clubs who meet the following criteria:   • Most non-Lion family and friends • Biggest food drive • Best lunch theme
