Division of EconomicsResearch School of Pacific and Asian Studies
The Division is concerned with the theoretical and applied issues of economic development and international economics with emphasis on the countries of Southeast Asia, North East Asia, the Southwest Pacific and South Asia, and their economic relations with Australia. Research in the Division is particularly strong in the following subject areas:
o Macroeconomic policy o Finance and development o International production and foreign direct investment o International capital mobility, financial integration and financial crises o Industrialization o Environmental policy o Trade policy o Labour market adjustment in transitional economies o International labour migration o Poverty and public policy
Research output of the Division in the five years 1998-2002 included 19 books, 21 edited books, 179 book chapters and 178 articles in refereed journals. Over four million dollars of research grants were won in 2001 and 2002.
