JOYEDITORIAL

I don’t know about you, but every year I am more and more surprised at how fast the holiday season descends upon us. September seems to slowly saunter in, and then bam, with a blink of an eye it’s December 1. I try to take it in strides, however sometimes panic sets in when I think about all the “stuff” that needs to get done. Preparing the lists and shopping in crowded malls, planning the feast and cleaning the house, and remembering it all! Whew!

Holiday celebrations can be stressful. Take a moment in all of the chaos to breathe and to still the mind and calm the heart. Center yourself and focus on joy.

There is joy everywhere; in giving hugs, playing fun games with your family, taking a walk, helping a stranger, spending time with friends, volunteering your services, watching a young child play or sitting quietly.

Recently, I witnessed a young boy about 3 years old getting a very colourful ball that his mother bought him from a gum ball machine. He squealed with joy; his body could not contain his pure excitement. He twitched, jumped, and twirled with amazement at all the colours. What we as adults may consider a small thing certainly made his day. His joy was contagious; he made me laugh and it still has a huge impact on me. Every time I think of him, I smile.

’Tis the season.I wish you a lifetime of joy.

HOW TO LOSE 40 POUNDS IN 4 HOURS

We have all heard that in order to lose weight we need to cut out carbs. Eat low fat. Exercise three times a week. Eat 10-12 servings of fruits and vegetables and avoid sugar. But wait! Is there something else that could really help us to lose weight? Yes there is.

Cut out the clutter in ten easy steps and watch the weight lift from your shoulders.

Let’s face it. If you can’t stand the site of your kitchen or can’t find what you are looking for in

your kitchen how motivated are you to cook and eat healthy meals?

If your clutter is making you feel overwhelmed and stressed how likely are you to want to get in your kitchen?

Try these simple steps to cutting out the clutter and watch the pounds shed away.

1. Step up a weekly appointment with yourself to do the shopping. Most households eat approximately ten different meals over the course of a month in some sort of rotation. Have your

meal plan written out and use it to make your shopping list. Heck, now a days you can even shop online at midnight in your PJ’s if you really want to.

2. Give your mailbox a diet. Put a red sticker on your mailbox which indicates to the post person you no longer wish to receive junk mail. You might need to have a verbal conversation with him or her depending on what part of the world you live in.

3. Have one cheat day per week. That’s the day you sit down and open your mail and deal with what needs to be dealt with. Treat yourself to a nice coffee, glass of wine or beverage of your choice.

4. Instead of going sugar free go paperless. Keep all important documents in a file on your computer which you back up consistently. Keep sugar to a minimal amount.

5. Put your computer on a cleanse. Delete

all unnecessary files, emails and folders that are no longer serving you. Take 15 minutes each day to work on this cleanse.

6. Eliminate the three most deadliest words “just in case”.

7. Kiss emotional eating goodbye as you kiss goodbye to the emotions of holding onto stuff which no longer brings you joy or serves you.

8. Clear all the junk food, processed food and expired food from your pantry. Start with a clean slate. Think Mediterranean eating. After spending over two weeks in Greece I see why “they” say eating a Mediterranean diet is such an awesome way to fuel our bodies.

9. Eliminate the endless supply of unused toiletries from under your bathroom sink.

10. Don’t store extra pounds of other people’s clutter.

If you are wanting to get in shape you would hire a personal trainer so why not hire a professional organizer to help you get your home and life in shape? I’ll give you the personal push to get start d and coach you in separating the emotions from the possessions. Call for a free over the phone session today.

HOW TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

HEALTH CARE

At this time of the year, some people are more susceptible to infections. We all have infections all the time. The air is loaded with all kinds of bacteria and viruses and fungus as is our food. But if we have strong immune systems and a healthy body our bodies take care of these things effectively. Our immune system is a hugely complex system and it needs to operate with balance and effectiveness. Your glutathione helps to promote and regulate your immune system. For instance, if your T1 / T2 balance is out, you are susceptible to many diseases and disorders. So let’s look at what we need to do prepare our bodies for the oncoming winter. Apologies to those down under…ha ha

“Of the at least 877 small-molecule drugs introduced worldwide between 1981 and 2002, the origins of most (61%) can be traced to natural products (Newman and Cragg 2007). Although many synthetic drugs are produced through combinatorial chemistry, plant-based drugs are more suitable, at least in biochemical terms, for human use. Nonetheless, modern medicine has neither held in very high esteem nor encouraged the medicinal use of natural products.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK92752/

What destroys your immune system:• Smoking• Poor diet• Lack of exercise• Overweight • Poor sleep habits

Okay. So what in your kitchen boosts your immune system:

Eat a diet that is rich in probiotics: pickled and fermented foods, kombucha,

sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, cukes, onions, garlic, beets, asparagus, ginger, carrots, green beans, cauliflower, okra, watermelon rinds, figs, pears, pineapple, avocados, as well as foods like cabbage or cheeses like Gouda, mozzarella and cottage cheese.

• Eat a diet that is rich in whole real, non-GMO fruits and vegetables

don’t forget real chocolate is a fruit and one that has healthy probiotics

Olives cured in brine• Eat good healthy fats, i.e., nuts and seeds

and avocados• A clove of garlic a day – over 150 known

compounds including 17 amino acids and a 33 known sulfuric compounds – smash don’t cut; swallow don’t chew

• Add ginger (over 115 compounds) and turmeric (more than 100 compounds) - be careful to get a good grade because 80% of the worlds sources of turmeric are toxic. Sevanti is a good product. Add them to food preparations

• Bell peppers are great to add to salads and stir fry’s and has lycopene’s, carotenes and zeaxanthin

• Drink a good Echinacea tea – or extract – Augustofolia as opposed to purpurea or pallida

• Herbs like Urtica diocia or Astragalus (polysaccharides, saponins and flavonoids) are great for building the blood

• If you are into mushrooms, then there are many good mushrooms, like shiitake, red reishi, maitake, cordyceps, etc

So let’s eat healthy; exercise regularly; manage our weight and don’t forget, laughter is a great medicine. Have fun in life and chose to be healthy.

Stumped with how to breathe a sense of excitement back into those same ol’ holiday pieces? I know I am… however, nothing has changed. The budget is what it is… limited. As in very limited. There are gifts to find, wrap and bows to buy, friends to entertain, parties to network and charitable donations to consider. AND once again, there’s our name and Holiday Wardrobe at the bottom of the list! I’m convinced this trait is part of a woman’s DNA! We tend to take care of everyone else first and ourselves last.

So how best to re-vitalize what we already have and put a spin on these same pieces such that our Holiday look feels new? The following tips were designed to create a few ‘light bulb’ moments. If we re-examine the pieces we already have with a bold and confident “new eye” we can work some holiday magic with what’s already hanging in the closet and rescue the budget too!

1. Whether you’re entering a friend’s home, o³ce party or a Boxing Day Brunch why not start with a festive first impression? Wraps, coats or jackets can pull any look together. The holiday season makes it easier to accessorize with a pop of color and we’re not necessarily talking about the traditional Christmas red or green! Try Royal Purple with silver - black with any plaid or even head to toe, winter white!

2. This year’s fun idea is to trim outer wear with pins and brooches! Tres, tres stylish

especially if you group two or three together to create a theme or picture – try finishing a beret (BTW totally in for Winter 2017!!), fedora, jacket lapel or even pockets for a whimsical touch! Belts are another finishing detail for outerwear. It’ll give any winter coat a totally different look and a belt with your wrap will hold it in place!

3. Tis the season to sparkle! A party look is always fun and creative so forget about being shy until after New Year’s Eve! Sequins always create a dramatic fashion statement so why not wear a simple look and accessorize with a pair of crystal trimmed party shoes, jewellery or clutch? A sequinned word of caution tho’ is to not overdo the amount of bling you’re wearing at one time… remember? Less is more!!

4. Who can take a pass on jewellery? You can always ramp up your everyday pieces by wearing multiples! Try a few chain necklaces of varying lengths with a string of pearls which was Coco Chanel’s signature look or create your own Jingle-y Bells with multiple bangles and bracelets. A bib necklace will take care of a simple round neckline and of course, now’s the time to bring out the cocktail ring – the bigger - the flashier - the better! Gina Best is going to present… Are you ready to have your Best Year?

We are going to be part of the 4% who write their goals down! 80% of people do not even think of goals, 15% don’t write them down, 4% write them down and only 1% write goals down and regularly review them. They are among the highest achievers, the people who are living their dreams. We are going to write things down, spend some time on what is to come this year, goals, hopes, dream and then we will put together a game plan for you to achieve them. My goal for you is that by the end of the year your workbook is dog-eared, well-thumbed and deeply familiar. It is your companion and guide for getting what you want in 2018.

I’d like to give a big shout out to Janice Carr for my easy to care for hair cut. She’s a stylist who is on trend, professional and fun to be around.

Thank you to Linda McLeod for taking the time to assess my levels of digestive health and give me a free laser scan. I feel so much better.
