4. Protractor Is used for measuring

and laying out arcs and circles as well as angles that cannot be measured with either the 45°or the 30° x 60° triangles.

It is half-circle shaped instrument, made of transparent plastic used for guiding a draftsman in drawing different angles.

5. Compasses Is used for drawing arcs

and circles. It is made of the lower portion of the pencil leg.

It is removable and to e replaced when needed.

The pen and the needle point leg are held together by a handle.

6. T-square Is an instrument

used for drawing horizontal lines.

It is also used to support the triangle for drawing vertical or inclined line

Are made of wood, plastic or metal.

7. Drawing Set It is a kit which

consists of a compass, divider, ruling pen, compass pen and pencil leads.

It is used for drawing arcs and circles and inking them.

which is usually made of transparent plastic and used for drawing irregular curves like an ellipse.

Materials

1. Drawing Paper It should have a

smooth surface when erasures are made.

Page 18: Drafting in tle iv

2. Tapes and Tacks There are varieties

of tapes and tacks available in the store.

They are used for fastening the drawing paper on the drawing board.

Proper Care of Drafting and other Materials Pencils should be sharpened whenever they

show signs of dullness. Never use the edge of T-square and triangles to

cut paper along its working edge. A slight nick at the edge will ruin the T-square.

Wipe off the surface and edges of your T-square and triangles before and after using them.

Avoid dropping your compass, divider and technical pens.

Provide a place to hang individually your T-squares, triangles, protractors and French curves after using them.

Page 21: Drafting in tle iv

Provide a separate container for drawing pencils, compasses, dividers, rolling pens and technical pens.

Wash the nibs of your compass after using them.

Dry the compass nibs and needlepoint after washing. Store them in a dry place. This will avoid rust formation on the instrument’s parts.

Keep tools and equipment in their proper place after using them.
