Parents who choose to enroll their child are committing to a period of five to seven years (TK-5), in order to be fluent in both languages. Dual Immersion Defined: Education that combines students from two language groups for instruction has been in existence for nearly 40 years, and its popularity has grown. Didyouknowthat…Ø Dual Language Immersion not only

provides students with the opportunity to learn a second language; it is the only proven program to close the achievement gap.

Ø There are 22 Spanish-speaking countries.

Ø A bilingual and biliterate person can earn up to $7,000 more per year (Fradd, 2000.)

Ø Over half of the world’s population speaks a second language (Zelazco y Atunez, 2000).

Ø North Carolina, Delaware, and Utah offer Dual Language Education for all students in all PK-12 schools.

Ø Studies show that the onset of Alzheimer’s disease is delayed in bilinguals. (Dreifus, 2011).

Ø Children who learn to read in their home language can easily transfer their knowledge to the second language. “Educating culturally responsible citizens today to be the leaders in our global community and economy tomorrow.” - Unknown
