This policy is in synchronizationwith central efforts like the Make In India, Startup India, Atal Innovation Mission, NationalInnovation Council etc. It has following key objectives-

• Developing student centric Innovation and Pre-incubation Ecosystem for Students.• Creating environment for creativity to flourish and an end-to-end support system in

educational institutions to allow ample support to ideas for better execution.• Build internal capacity of educational institutions and key components of the innovation

ecosystem.• Create pathways for mind to market.• Create a common platform to showcase, support and upscale innovations for motivating

stakeholders as well as for an opportunity to create value for money and value for many.

As a part of this policy, over span of five years, Government intends to build capacity of at least200 educational institutions in the State, to have a robust pre-incubation facility for studentsand alumni startups and innovations.

Introduced in 2017, currently by end of Phase-III implementation Government has endorsed 24Universities and 52 Institutes in the State as SSIP Nodal Center. SSIP Nodal centers receivesfunding assistance from Government and provides facilities like infrastructural resources, working space, funding for developing proof of concept (PoC) and prototype, guidance andsupport for IPR related activities, mentoring, capacity building, etc.

DIET receives SSIP Nodal Center under SSIP Grant (Institute) Phase-III for year 2018-2021. As apart of this, over the period of three years, DIET commits to spend Rs. 30 lakh on variousactivities under SSIP with funding support of. Rs. 15 lakh from Government through SSIP grant. These activities include developing Innovation center and pre-incubation process, developingTinkering lab., conducting awareness and sensitization programs, participating and arraigningworkshops, providing mentoring support, etc. with major focus on funding innovative projectsfor development of PoC and prototype as well as filing patents.

Any innovator either student or alumni, can take benefits of this scheme by applying at any ofthe SSIP Nodal centers. As per the scheme innovations that are at PoC level or beyond canreceive financial support up to Rs. 2 lakh. This includes support up to maximum 75% towardsprocurement of items and towards minor work such as fabrication, electrical work, etc. It alsoincludes support up to maximum 25% towards payment for professional services such asproduct design, testing, etc. In addition to this funding support up to Rs. 25,000 is also extendedfor patent filing and IPR related activities.

Staff Achievement

Completed Ph.D

Prof. Ujjval J. Solanki , Department of Civil Engineering successfully completed his Ph.D. studiesin the area of Transportation from R. K. University, Rajkot. The title of his research work wasStructural Evaluation of Pavement Using Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). FWD is thetechnique used to evaluate the structural stability of Flexible and Concrete Pavement. Theresearch outcome of his work is the deflection bowel parameter which is available from thedeflection from FWD study and is used to suggest the structural condition of in-servicepavement, without back calculation. The Deflection Bowel parameter will indicate the structuralstrength of the pavement and identify the requirement of strengthening of In-Service Pavement.
