What does it mean to have a Mass "offered" for someone? An individual may ask a priest to offer a Mass for several reasons: in thanksgiving, for the inten ons of another person or as is most common, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died for the souls in purgatory. One must never forget the infinite graces that flow from the Sacrifice of the Mass which benefit one’s soul. We find not only the origins of this prac ce da ng to the early Church but we also clearly recognize its importance. Offering Mass for a special Inten on is a long standing tradi on in the Catholic Church. It is usually considered that special graces are obtained for whom the Mass is said. Dear Parishioners and Friends, Most of our life we chase a er everything except what we most secretly desire, God. But only the generous giver of peace can sa sfy our needs. Je-sus compares himself to manna, the bread that came down from heaven, which, according to the beliefs of Jewish mys cs, was the materialized shining light from the heavens. Kohelet writes that this light can be sweet, although other transla ons used the word pleasant (Koh 11.7). The light of God that is hidden in the Eucharist is our sweet delight, but only a few get to enjoy it. In ancient mes it was believed that the manna was ground by millstones in the third heaven known as "Sheḥaḳim". It was only intended for the righteous, some even thought that manna was the luminous food of angels. Paul alluded to this when he spoke of his heavenly ela on: "I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago - whether in the body, or out of the body - I do not know, only God knows - was tak-en away to the third heaven" (2 Cor 12,2). He meant to say that the man experienced the blissful divine light and went through an extraordinary exculpa on. When Jesus spoke of the bread from heaven, he did not mean the bread that comes from a bakery, but for the one that brings us the honor of the third heaven. In Jesus bread is no longer angelic, but Godly, and it gives to man; not the light, which feeds angels, but the light of God. The Eucharist is the greatest honor a man can receive. It is our heaven on earth through which we rediscover the closest rela onship we have with God. It is extremely im-portant to associate the consump on of bread as our coming to Jesus. The secret of the unifica on with Christ is also the secret of the unifica on between us, which is the basis of the forma on of our Church. Both the Eucharist and the Church are the body of Christ . One without the other does not exist, so one cannot con nue to last in the Church, without taking Communion, or even more so the other way around. If one has nothing to do with the Eucharist, they do not have any-thing to do with Christ. We accept Christ in the Eucharist and in the Eucharist we accept the whole Church. The startling words spoken by Christ during the last supper do not leave anyone sensi ve without fear: THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU. The Eucharist comes with a huge price - a price that Jesus paid in human life that he gave for every human life during a cruel execu on. Looking at the Host, I can-not forget how much effort it cost Jesus, so I could now easily consume it. Avoiding Communion is a type of contempt to-wards the Passion of Christ. Let us learn to rediscover this great gi that the Lord Jesus Christ has le us. Let’s rediscover our love for the Eucharis c Jesus and receive him o en with reverence and a pure open heart.

wyjątkiem tego, czego najbardziej pragniemy w
skrytości ducha, z wyjątkiem Boga. A przecież
zaspokoić może tylko Ten, który jest hojnym dawcą
pokoju. Jezus porównuje się do manny, do chleba
pochodzącego z nieba, który, według wierzeń
mistyków żydowskich, był zmaterializowaną światłością z nieba.
Kohelet pisze, że światło potrafi być słodkie, choć tłumaczenie
polskie użyło tam słowa przyjemne (Koh 11,7). Światło Boga
ukryte w Eucharys i jest słodką przyjemnością, ale niewielu jej
kosztuje.
W starożytności wierzono, że manna była mielona przez
niebiańskie żarna w trzecim niebie, zwanym „szechakim”. Był to
pokarm przeznaczony jedynie dla sprawiedliwych, niektórzy
uważali nawet, że był świetlistym pokarmem aniołów. Paweł
nawiązywał do tego, gdy mówił o swoim uniesieniu w niebo:
„Znam człowieka w Chrystusie, który przed czternastu laty – czy
w ciele – nie wiem, czy poza ciałem – też nie wiem, Bóg to wie –
został porwany aż do trzeciego nieba” (2 Kor 12,2). Chciał przez
to powiedzieć, że doznał zachwytu boskim światłem i przeżył to
jako niezwykły zaszczyt usprawiedliwienia. Musimy odczytać
słowa o Chlebie z nieba, o którym mówił Jezus, mając to
wszystko na myśli. Nie chodziło Mu o chleb z piekarni, tylko o
zaszczyt trzeciego nieba. Z tym że w Jezusie to już nie anielski
chleb, ale Boski udziela się człowiekowi; nie światło, którym
pożywiali się aniołowie, tylko światłość samego Boga.
Eucharys a jest największym zaszczytem dla człowieka.
Jest niebem na ziemi odkrywanym jako stan najściślejszej więzi
z Bogiem. Niezwykle istotne jest skojarzenie spożywania chleba
z przychodzeniem do Jezusa, chodzi bowiem o zbliżanie się do
Boga poprzez spożywanie eucharystycznego pokarmu.
Tajemnica jednoczenia się z Chrystusem jest też tajemnicą
jednoczenia się pomiędzy nami, co powoduje tworzenie się
Kościoła. Zarówno Eucharys a, jak i Kościół są przecież Ciałem
Chrystusa. Jedno bez drugiego nie istnieje, a więc nie może ktoś
trwać w Kościele, nie przyjmując Komunii, albo tym bardziej na
odwrót. Jeśli nie mam nic wspólnego z Eucharys ą, to nie mam
nic wspólnego z Chrystusem. Chrystusa przyjmuje się w
Eucharys i i w Eucharys i przyjmuje się cały Kościół.
Wstrząsające słowa wypowiedziane przez Chrystusa nie
pozostawiają nikogo wrażliwego bez niepokoju: TO JEST CIAŁO
MOJE, KTÓRE ZA WAS BĘDZIE WYDANE. Eucharys a ma swoją
ogromną cenę – cenę, w której Jezus zapłacił życiem ludzkim w
okrutnej egzekucji za każde życie ludzkie. Przyglądając się
Hos i, nie mogę zapomnieć, ile trudu kosztowało Jezusa, bym
mógł ją teraz z taką łatwością spożyć. Unikanie Komunii jest
rodzajem wzgardy wobec męki Chrystusa. Umiejmy odkryć na
nowo ten wielki Dar, który pozostawił nam Pan Jezus.
Pokochajmy Jezusa Eucharystycznego i przyjmujmy Go często z
szacunkiem i czystym otwartym sercem.

In an cipa on of the approaching 100-year anniversary of St. Constance Parish, you are invited to purchase from the "Tree of Life" a leaf on which you can place the names of your loved ones: par-ents, siblings, rela ves, friends, parishioners, priests, nuns, etc. Both the living and the dead can be named, so that their memory will last forever. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. There are both large and small leaves on the "Tree of Life". For the engraving and moun ng of each small leaf, the dona on is $250.00, while for each large leaf it is $400.00. This group is considered the cultural representa ve of Mexico to the world. This ballet troupe offers a lively perfor-mance that is full of movement, rhythm, and tech-nical perfec on. We will leave from the Bank of America Bank at 1:15PM on a comfortable bus to the Auditorium Theatre in downtown Chicago on Sunday, September 27 and will return about 7:00PM. PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND EXPERIENCE IN FLORIDA December 7-11

The Holy Land Experience brings together the sights and sounds of the world of the Bible in a unique and interac ve way unlike anywhere else. M any of us hold back. We hedge. We se le. I do any-way. Not always, of course. Certainly I’ve stretched
myself many mes over the years to go beyond my com-fort zone, but many mes, too, I’ve been content with a tolerable situa on--or maybe even a good situa on--even though I know God has more in store for me. But some mes the more-in -store may seem like just too much effort. I had a friend over for dinner a few months ago. I prepared the dish right in front of him: shrimp fried rice. First I cooked the rice and put it in the freezer to get it cold. Then I prepped the eggs. In the mean me, I thawed and boiled the shrimp. Then I prepped the vegetables: broccoli, carrots, red and yellow bell peppers, celery, onion. Then I brought the rice, eggs, shrimp, and veg-gies together in sesame oil and soy sauce, and over an hour a er I started, I put the finished dish in front of my friend. He took one bite, said it was very, very good, but added, “Frankly, I’m not sure if it’s worth the bother…” Which is precisely to my point. Look at the Israelites in todays’ first reading. They have forgo en that Moses took them out of Egypt--out of the bondage of slavery--toward a new promised land. And in dra-ma c fashion, no less. But now listen to them as they complain to Moses and Aaron about their circumstance: “Would that we had died at the Lord’s hand in the land of Egypt, as we sat by our fleshpots and ate our fill of bread! But you had to lead us into this desert to make the whole community die of famine.” Forgive the expression, but damned if you do/damned if you don’t, you know? The Israelites had already taken one step of faith (through the parted sea) but when things get hard, they are ready to retreat back to--to se le back to--where they came from. Some mes we’re content with the old ways because we know the old ways. Some mes the new way is too much bother… Today’s Gospel, the beginning of Christ’s Bread of Life discourse, is--like the first reading--another example of God providing for his peo-ple. But it’s also another example of God’s people being prepared to se le for something less (here, quite literally bread and fish) than God’s best. Jesus sees it coming when the crowds follow him across the water: “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not be-cause you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled.” Jesus goes on: “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life…” No ng that their ancestors had eaten manna in the desert, the people ask Jesus for a sign that they might believe in him. Next week we will get into the details, but suffice it to say now that many of the people couldn’t take the step of faith need-ed to go from loaves and fishes to the Bread of Life. They are more content with being sa sfied in the here and now than in some God-provided future that takes them out of their element. “Frankly, I’m not sure it’s worth the bother,” perhaps they are saying. What I didn’t tell my friend that night over steaming hot shrimp fried rice is that a good meal is always worth the bother. And Jesus has a great meal in mind.

PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA 7 sierpnia przypada Pierwszy Piątek miesiąca. Spowiedź św. w naszej parafii będzie od godz. 6.00 wieczorem. Msza Święta o Najświętszym Sercu Pana Jezusa o godz. 7:00 pm. Zachęcamy do uczestnictwa w Nabożeństwach do Serca Jezusa wszystkie dzieci. Dzieci które otrzymały książeczki z Dziewięcio-ma Pierwszymi Piątkami Miesiąca, mogą poprosić o jej podpisanie spowiednika lub siostrę w zakrys i. Warto przypomnieć co ze sobą niesie to szczególne nabożeństwo. Główna zasługa w rozpowszechnianiu się nabożeństwa do Najśw. Serca Pana Jezusa
przypada skromnej zakonnicy, św. Małgorzacie Marii Alacoque (1647-1690). W grudniu 1673 roku św. Małgorzata dopuszczona została do tego, by spoczęła na Sercu Jezusowym. Pan Jezus pokazując jej swoje Serce pełne ognia, rzekł do niej: “Moje Boskie Serce tak płonie miłością ku ludziom, że nie może
dłużej utrzymać tych płomieni gorejących, zamkniętych w moim łonie. Ono pragnie rozlać je za twoim pośrednictwem i pragnie wzbogacić ludzi swoimi Bożymi skarbami”.
ADORACJA NAJŚWIĘTSZEGO SAKRAMENTU W każdy wtorek w naszym kościele odbywa się Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu. Rozpoczynamy o godz. 8:30 rano, a kończymy o 7:00 wieczorem.
Koronka do Bożego Miłosierdzia o godzinie 3:00pm. W czasie całego dnia Adoracji można składać osobiste intencje do skrzynki, która znajduje się na środku kościoła. W tych intencjach modlimy się na zakończenie adoracji o godz. 7:00 wieczorem oraz podczas Mszy św. o 7:15 w j. polskim. W ciągu całego dnia adoracji polecamy Panu Bogu szcze-
gólnie dwie intencje: modlimy się o pokój na całym świecie oraz o powołania do służby Bożej w Kościele.
WRĘCZENIE PALIUSZA ARCYBISKUPOWI CHICAGO Arcybiskup Błażej J. Cupich zaprasza wszystkich do
uczestnictwa w chica-gowskich uroczystościach wręczenia paliusza. Od-będą się one w niedzielę, 23 sierpnia o godz. 14:15 w katedrze Świętego Imienia przy zbiegu ulic Superior i State w Chicago.
Podczas uroczystości Arcybiskup Carlo Maria Viganò, nuncjusz apostolski Stanów Zjednoczonych wręczy Ar-cybiskupowi Cupichowi paliusz, który 29 czerwca został pobłogosławiony przez Papieża Franciszka. UWAGA: Niezapisani nie będą dopuszczeni do udziału w Pielgrzymce. Piesza Pielgrzymka jest wydarzeniem religijnym podejmowanym z pobudek religijnych. Należy ją przeżywać w duchu modlitwy, wzajemnego szacunku, życzliwości, braterskiej pomocy i dyscypliny. INFORMACJE O SAKRAMENTACH ŚWI ĘTYCH Chrzty… Sakrament Chrztu Świętego jest udzielany w języku angielskim i polskim. Chrzty w języku angielskim są w pierwszą i trzecią niedzielę, a w języku polskim w drugą i czwartą niedzielę każdego miesiąca. Rodzice są zobowiązani do wzięcia udziału w spotkaniu przygotowującym do tego sakramentu przed planowaną datą chrztu dziecka. Prosimy o skontaktowanie się z biurem parafialnym, aby zgłosić dziecko do chrztu. Sakrament Małżeństwa… Archidiecezja Chicago zaleca, aby osoby, które planują zawarcie sakramentu małżeństwa zgłosiły się do biura parafialnego co najmniej cztery miesiące przed datą ślubu. Chcielibyśmy i usilnie zalecamy, aby w naszej parafii okres przygotowania trwać sześć miesięcy. Prosimy, abyście najpierw ustalili termin w kościele, a następnie w innych miejscach. Zapraszamy więc do naszego biura parafialnego najwcześniej jak tylko jest to możliwe . Sakrament Namaszczenia Chorych… Prosimy o kontakt z księdzem w celu ustalenia terminu przyjęcia tego sakramentu. Przypominamy, że nie wolno zwlekać z udzieleniem sakramentu chorych do momentu kiedy osoba będzie nieprzytomna lub bliska śmierci.
