Synopsis

An Exquisite Corpse combines documentary, fction and experimental

flm-making as it traverses the social and oneiric landscape o a regionstruggling between modernity and tradition. It explores ritual and

performance from festivals to everyday life combining the real and the

surreal, the fantastical and the banal, that which is vital and that which is

purely entertainment. The reenactment of rituals within changing crowds

and contexts illuminates the complex striving for understanding and for

giving meaning to the small acts o f everyday life. They also glimpse the

need for release and catharsis. The myths, as torrid and exuberant as the

geography, are often more concrete than reality and during the autopsy

the corpse itself reveals something more repugnant than death, the

submission of the living to it. This fantastical collective biography exploresthe psyche o an individual reecting a multitude. It immerses into a dense

mythological universe by narrating the life of a being in the process of

unbeing, a character becoming a corpse.

movie is to formulate and present visual questions that are simultaneously rooted

in the region and culture but through the character, illuminate the universal hu-

man experience. They are dedicated to the questions and the questioning, which

in many cases requires more introspection and processing of information torecognize than the answers and they believe the power of curiosity required to

seek questions can create universal understandings that are too often skewed by

cultural barriers.

The frst day o flming was October 31st, 2008, in a hotel in the Historic Center

of San Salvador and was a complete success, and gave a glimpse of a promis-

ing uture or this production. October 10th, 2009 was the last day o flming, in

the Triangle Arts studio in Brooklyn, NY. The v ast majority of situations, events,

locations and scenes to flm were ound and decided upon between the three

conceptualists, Victor, Sarah and Rossemberg. Each one contributed an idea thatgradually appeared in its own ways and interests. In the majority of cases one

situation led us to the next one, and in that way consecutively 75 dierent scenes

were flmed.

Victor Ruanowas born in Santa Ana, El Salvador. He studied Graphic Design at La Universidad Dr. JosMatas Delgado. Ater fnishing the program, he continued his studies at The Savannah College o Art and De-

sign, thanks to an International Excellency Scholarship awarded by the president of the college. He completed

two Masters programs, one in Computer Art, with a focus in Motion Graphics and the second in Film and

Television. His flm Ever Amado has been presented and awarded in many flm estivals, including the 57thInternational Berlinale Film Festival, Newflmmakers NYC, Anthology Archives NYC, EL Paso TX Film Festival,

ICARO in Central America, S.U.R.G.E. FF, Knstlerhauskino Wien- Iberoamerikanische Filmtage, Vancouver

Latin American Film Festival, Festivalissimo Montreal, and the North Carolina Film Festival among others.

Currently Victor runs a design studio called Santasombra in the New York Metro area. He has done work for

XEROX, Moore Business, Dr. Jos Matas Delgado University, ASA Poster, JWT, Gretel.tv, Meta-Lingo, UDirect,

HRM, SCAD and NBC Universal, Sports & Olympics among others. He has been nominated or two EMMY

Awards in the category o Outstanding Graphic Design or his work with NBC Olympics, creating the graphic

package or The Beijing Olympics 2008, and or the NFL graphics package o FNIA & SNL or NFL 2007.

In 2010 he was again a member o the design or TV team o NBC Olympics or the Winter Olympics o Van-

couver, Canada.

Sarah Walkowas born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a multimedia sculptor, installation artist andwriter. She attained her Master of Fine Arts from The Savannah College of Art and Design and her Bachelor

o Arts rom The University o Maryland, College Park, Maryland. She is currently the Executive Director o

Triangle Arts Association, a non-proft arts organization in Brooklyn. She participates in artists workshops,

residency programs and exhibitions and is an Art Director with the independent flm collective Santasombra,

which shows at flm estivals around the world. She is currently working on new multimedia sculptures and

installation projects as well as web and flm collaborations and has just completed several exhibitions in NYC.

Rossemberg Rivas /SalvadoranI want to be so responsible with you that I seek my own happiness daily, in order to share the best of myself.

He is a designer by proession. He completed his ormal study o design at La Universidad Dr. Jos Matas

Delgado in El Salvador, ater already having a Renascent childhood that provided ample artistic instruction,

from the age of 7, as an educational foundation for an avid love of the arts. Rossemberg completed studies on

dramatic art, fne arts, sculpture, ballet, music, poetry, and also painting and drawing, along with recognized

mentors o the arts in El Salvador. In 1992, he stepped into the area o television, as part o the childrens pro-

gram Tierra de Inancia supported by UNICEF, which emphasized the rights o children. He was part o the

cast at only 12 years old. In 1998, Rossemberg fnished his basic studies, obtaining recognition or his educa-

tional trajectory o Academic Quality among his graduating class. Then he went on to complete university,

obtaining the academic & humanitarian distinction o Integrality. From there, he started to develop in the

professional arena, becoming a creative director for government institutions in his country. Then he became

the general coordinator or the graphic design program at his university, at only 22 years old, making him the

youngest among his colleagues to obtain that position.

The study of body-language techniques has helped him to make his own body his most important vehicle of

expression. His aection or kinetics and his expertise in dancing has permitted him to generate new dia-

logues between dance-theater, perormance art, happenings, uxus momentum, improvisation and other

experimental techniques. From his multidisciplinary philosophy, he has continued studies of art appreciation,photography, cultural management, stage design and pedagogy. He has made conceptual contributions for

the creation of events, which has allowed him to perform internationally for The Cirque du Soleil and the Ho-

llywood Designing Awards in NYC, experiences that have inuenced his work at home and in Central America

as a performer, art director, stage designer, and costume designer for events.

At the present time, Rossemberg works or his own personal trademark Rossemberg-Integral Design that

develops dierent design propositions, rom the constructions o brands to the creation o ephemeral spac-

es, and he also contributes in the area of one of his major passions, teaching and education.His expectation

for the future is to use his own communication languages to develop a new formula for multi-experimental

design to help humanity return to the path o its frst love and recover its essence once again.
