Above the head of Jesus, a sign proclaims: “This is the king of the Jews.” The soldiers and most of the crowd think that the sign is a bad joke. But a criminal who is hanging in a cross next to Jesus senses the truth about him. “Remember me when you enter upon your reign,” he prays. Deseamos aprovechar este tiempo santo para promover el espíritu misionero de la Parroquia de Santa Rosa mediante nuestra oración por la paz mundial y esfuerzos por la paz y justicia en nuestros vecindarios, así como nuestra ayuda hacia los más necesitados. Cuatro Domingos de Adviento •Primer, Segundo & Cuarto Domingo – Vela Morada •Tercer Domingo – Vela Rosa Las velas Moradas en particular sim- bolizan la oración, la penitencia y los sacrificios preparatorios y los trabajos de bienes realizados en este momen- to. La vela Rosa se enciende el tercer domingo, domingo de Gaudete; El do- mingo de Gaudete es el domingo de regocijo, porque los fieles han llegado al punto medio del Adviento, cuando su preparación está a medio terminar y están cerca de la Navidad. La iluminación progresiva de las ve- las simboliza la expectativa y la espe- ranza que rodean la primera venida de nuestro Señor al mundo y la an- ticipación de su segunda venida para juzgar a los vivos y los muertos. (USCCB) THE SEASON OF ADVENT Next week on Sunday, December 1st we will begin the Advent Season, that special time to prepare ourselves to celebrate the Birth of Our Lord Je- sus Christ. We use this holy season to promote the missionary spirit of Santa Rosa Parish by praying for peace in the world and working for peace and jus- tice in our communities as well as as- sisting the needy among us. We invite all the families of the Par- ish to make an ADVENT WREATH for their homes, and as a family to gather together to pray and reflect during this wonderful season to pray for peace in our hearts and in our homes. We will have a special blessing of the Advent Wreaths on Sunday, December 1st during each of the Masses. During Advent •We look back to the time when the world awaited the birth of Jesus. •We look forward to the second com- ing Jesus Christ in glory at the end of the world. •We also wait and work for the fullness of God’s kingdom now in our lives and in our world. Four Sundays of Advent •1st, 2nd & 4th Sunday -Purple Candle •Third Sunday – Rose Candle The purple candles in particular sym- bolize the prayer, penance, and prepa- ratory sacrifices and goods works un- dertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, Gaudete Sun- day. Gaudete Sunday is the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have ar- rived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over and they are close to Christmas. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of his second coming to judge the living and the dead.
