Lesson 2: Cats and Dogs Equipment:

• Scissors

• Glue

• Ted worksheet

Introduction: Find out about cats and dogs Instructions:

Look at the cats and dogs yellow flashcards - Can the child recognise the cat and the dog? - Can the child make comment on what cats and dogs need? - Does the child understand the difference between a baby/adult animal?

After watching the PowerPoint pupils may need support with cutting and sticking. The children need to identify what Ted needs. They will cut out the items and stick them on the worksheet. If your child is able to think of anything more that Ted might need they can either write it down or ask an adult to scribe their words.

I can recognise a cat and dog (given the choice of two). I can identify particular items for a cat and dog. I understand what cats and dogs need and show care and concern. I can recognise the difference between a baby/adult animal

You can watch the story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go6dSfm-g6g Now explore the story with your stick puppets. There are lots of things you can do: You can create an action for each of the animals to represent them. It could be the slow-moving turtle, the swooping parrot, the scurrying rat. Think about what your body and face could do. You can retell the story from one of the animal’s points of view – how do they feel when they don’t get chosen straight away? How do they feel when they get to go home with the boy? You could be the boy – what is he thinking in his head? What conversation might he have with his mum about taking all the animal’s home and why he chose them all!
