    SHELL Stanlow stepped-in to

    ensure a sociable summer for

a group of older residents in

    Ellesmere Port.

    The company rst joined forces

    with Age Concern Cheshire last

year to deliver a series of trips,

treats and visits for pensioners in the Ellesmere Port area. The scheme has proved to

be a huge success and has provided numerous fun days out since its launch. This yearvisits have included canal boat trips from the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, outings to

Llandudno, West Kirby, and the Anderton Boat Lift in Northwich as well as treats such as

    facials, manicures and massages.

Shell public affairs advisor Rachel Evans joined a group of local older people during an

organised party at the Whitby Sports and Social Club in Ellesmere Port. Partygoers

enjoyed a game of prize bingo and were entertained by a professional singer whilst they

    tucked into a tasty lunch.

Rachel said: We are thrilled to team up with Age Concern Cheshire. They do some

fantastic work nationally as well as locally within our neighbouring communities.

This scheme will provide an excellent opportunity for our local older residents to get outthere and meet people and have a fun time whilst in a safe and friendly environment. The

party was a perfect example of this and it was also lovely to meet a number of former

Stanlow employees and talk about how the site has changed over the years.

Pictured enjoying the party atmosphere at the Whitby Sports and Social Club event

Sometimes in life, you have to hit rock bottombefore you can get up and start to

make the changes you need to and

    thats what happened to me.

I was always a big lad, and during my late

20s and early 30s, my weight started to get

to me. I was always in and out of hospital

for tests on my heart and I was suffering

    from frequent blackouts problems that

were both attributable to my weight.

Four years ago, a mental breakdown

again, a knock-on effect of my obesity

cost me my career, my 14-year marriage

and very nearly my life. In January 2007,

when my wife and I nally separated, I

was the biggest Id ever been and to

be honest, a bit of a mess. I knew I

needed to lose weight, and saw

    an advertisement for Slimming

World but I kept putting it offby making one excuse after

    another. Finally, one Thursday, I

    nally mustered the strength to

walk through those doors at my local group and its the best thing I ever did.

Straight away, I got an amazing welcome and a great sense of belonging plus the

help I got from my local Consultant and the other members at group was incredible. In

my rst week, I lost 7 lbs and immediately achieved my half-stone award, then the

week later, I lost another 6lbs to win Slimmer of the Week. The sense of motivation was

incredible and its changed my whole outlook on life.

Now I go to the gym regularly and cook healthy Food Optimising meals for myself. My depression and anxiety have almost completely disappeared and Ive regained the

condence I need to get back to work I feel as though the worlds my oyster! In just

15 weeks, Ive lost nearly 4 stones and 8 inches off my waist. In 2007, I really felt like

Useless Man of the Year, but now Ive just won our groups Man of the Year 2008.

    What an amazing feeling!

So, in a nutshell, thank you to Slimming World, my consultant and everyone at group.

You have in no uncertain terms saved my life.

declare yourself bankrupt or be declared bankrupt by the

    organisation you owe money to.

It is the traditional way of escaping

    overwhelming debt.

    ONE OPTION IS...

    DECLARING BANKRUPTCY

    It can....

    free you from overwhelming debts

    so you can make a fresh start;

make sure your assets are shared

    out fairly among your creditors;

    End after one year.

Anyone can go bankrupt, includingindividual members of a partnership.

    Companies can also make

    themselves insolvent.

    A SPECTACULAR military

    parade will make its way

    through Ellesmere Port

    town centre as the newly

    formed Mercian Regiment

    is awarded Freedom of

    the Borough.

    After initial hopes of

    holding the event in July

    were dashed, the parade

    involving 350 servicemen

    and women has now

    been rearranged and will

    take place on Friday 26th

    September.

    Borough Mayor Cllr Keith

    Butcher will greet the

    regiment at Civic Square

    where he will receive the

    salute and present them

    with a scroll granting them

    Freedom of the Borough.

    The 22nd (Cheshire)

    Regiment had a long-

    standing link to Ellesmere

    Port and Neston having

    been awarded the

    Freedom of the Borough

    in 1986.

    However, in September

    2007 the Cheshires

    merged with the

    Staffordshire and the

    Worcestershire and

    Sherwood Foresters

    Regiments to form The

    Mercian Regiment.

    As a result, 1st Battalion

    The 22nd (Cheshire)

    Regiment became 1st

    Battalion The Mercian

    Regiment (Cheshire), thus

    retaining its proud link with

    Cheshire in its title.

Cllr Butcher, said: Itis a great honour to

    welcome the servicemen

    and women to Ellesmere

    Port and to grant the

    new Mercian Regiment

    Freedom of the Borough.
