Genesis 30 ASAP

In our fast-paced world where delays can be especially frustrating, everything is required to happen ASAP (as soon as possible), delays can be especially frustrating. At the time this lesson was written, the road that the writer usually took to church was under repair. Detour signs let drivers know they had to take an alternate route.

Delays seem to be a common part of God's modus operandi in Scripture. He appears to prefer operating by another kind of ASAP: as slowly as possible. Consider the patriarchs in the book of Genesis. Abraham entered Canaan at the age of 75 (Genesis 12:4), having received God's promise that he would be the source of a great nation (12:2). Yet his covenant son, Issac, was not born until Abraham had reached age 100!

Issac was 40 when he married Rebekah, but their sons Jacob and Esau did not arrive for another 20 years. Jacob had to wait 7 years before he could marry Laban's daughter, Rachel: even then he ended up married to her sister Leah. Laban allowed him to marry Rachel provided he worked another 7 years.

Rachel also spent time in God's “waiting room” as she struggled with the disappointment of her inability to conceive (Genesis 29;31). It is hard to imagine the depths of her frustration at seeing the other women in her household bearing children while she remained barren. It is hard at times for us to explain or to fully understand why God delays answering certain prayers or fulfilling certain prayers or fulfilling certain promises. This is where faith provides another outlook (or “uplook”). We trust that God will do what he has stated, by accepting another interpretation of ASAP: as sure as promised.

Jim West will teach this lesson and Fretta Moore will bless us with her creative interpretation of our favorite hymns.

INQUIRING MINDS

WELLNESS CLASSROOM

THE STORY OF IRELAND

Mona Mae Waymire, Moderator

The series aims to explore Irish history using the historical facts and evidence while charting the origin and impact of the numerous myths that have been passed off as history in the past. Key to this approach is relating developments in Ireland to events and changes

in Europe and the world at large as the centuries progress.

Episode Four: The Age of Union

A new area for exploration is Ireland's role in the British Empire - both in terms of military service - Irish regiments holding the Punjab for example, and in terms of intriguing Irish governors and political men posted in various corners of the British Empire.

OKLAHOMA SPORTS HALL OF FAME & JIM THORP MUSEUM TOUR

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH

LEAVE EPWORTH VILLA @ 10:00 AM

The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage excellence through sports, academics, health and fitness; preserving our sports heritage while building pride in Oklahoma in the spirit of Jim Thorpe. Established in 1986, originally as the Jim Thorpe Association, the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame’s main goal is to promote Oklahoma, while honoring and recognizing great Oklahomans who have represented the state positively at not only the state level, but al-so the national and international levels. In August of 2013, the two brands, which were literally the same organization with the same administration, same board of directors and same values, selected the name "Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame" as the cohesive umbrella brand of the organization going forward. Each year, we honor individuals by inducting them into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame. In addition to the Hall of Fame, we are nationally recognized for the Jim Thorpe Museum and annually awarding the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award to the top defensive back in college football. We are also home to the Warren Spahn Award, given annually to the best left handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. Throughout the last 30 years, we have been a leading advocate for promoting healthy lifestyles in the school children of Oklahoma. We are proud to give back to the community each year through our Bright Path Youth Program, including the state's largest drug free initiative, Red Ribbon Week.

If you are interested in going with us to tour the museum, please sign up in the ‘Count Me In’ book BY MONDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH at Noon. Cost will be $6.00 for transportation, museum is free.

PAUL GERNI

KANSAS CITY BASED BARITONE

JAZZ VOCALIST

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 27TH

2:30 PM

GRAND BALLROOM

Getting his singing start at age 6 with his brothers/sisters singing group in Logansport,

Indiana, Paul now sings “The Great Songs of the Great Singers” featuring a pleasing mix

of top songs and standards made popular by the likes of the greats like Frank Sinatra,

Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald,

Johnny Mercer, Diana Krall, Harry Connick, Michael Buble, Peggy Lee, Joe Williams,

Louis Armstrong, Billy Eckstine, and more. These days Paul performs with his buttery

resonant bass-baritone voice mostly in Kansas City, but also for appreciative audiences

in Omaha, Fort Worth, Tulsa, Chicago, Denver, Stockholm, New York, and in Las Vegas.

[Perfect for jazz clubs, conferences, corporate events, festivals, fundraisers, company

parties, special events, weddings, senior living centers, country clubs, and restaurant

brunches.] Paul has sung songs in English, German and in Italian, and has happily

worked with great and soon-to-be-great jazz musicians, in trios, quartets, and with

18-piece big bands. “A great and growing experience!” he readily admits with a smile.

Jazz aficionados in Kansas City have likely heard his smooth classy style at Californo's in

Westport, The Blue Room at the American Jazz Museum, The Phoenix Jazz Club, The

Green Lady Jazz Lounge, The Majestic Steakhouse, Piropo's Restaurant, The Kansas City

Club, The Camelot Ballroom, The Broadway Jazz Club, and The Chaz at the Raphael

Hotel, to name just a few of the 40+ great jazz venues in KC, home of the famous Kansas

City jazz sound. Paul's repertoire is over 500 songs, with 60 charts for traveling. And

with Gerni, his friendly personality is, of course a winning asset.

Nancie Webb and Shelley Stutchman presented a plaque to the Sigma Kappa Sorority on Monday night, Nov. 5th at their chapter meeting. The plaque was from Epworth at Home thanking the sorority for raising $10,000.00 in their chapter for Alzheimer’s. Nationwide their sorority has raised over one million for research on Alzheimer’s. Nancie told the young women about how Alzheimer’s had touched her life personally. She also let them know about the Care Support group she leads at Epworth.

Nancie and Shelley met these young women while they were volunteering at the Alzheimer’s walk and were so impressed with these ladies. Nancie and Shelley decided to take this opportunity to let them know how their work did not go unnoticed and how proud we are that their sorority has chosen Alzheimer’s as one of their projects.

Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith (John Can-dy), whom he finds extremely annoying.
