In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question One

Conventional; similar to NME: I used a simple, san serif font, and a bright colour to draw attention to it.

I chose to take the photos on a boat for two reasons; firstly it was most convenient for the band members as it was their they rehearse and secondly, this allowed me to try and convey a very informal, laid back atmosphere mainly inspired by the Kerrang page to the left.

When taking the pictures, I chose mainly to usually mid shots to showcase the band and its members, to showcase them to audience which was the purpose of the magazine. I did a little Photoshop editing (air brushing, colour balance etc) to make the photos as look realistic; following conventions.

The shirts worn by the band members match indie rock and roll genre but don’t feature heavily in the magazine. Again I followed conventions to match the style.

Obviously, as the “props” were the band’s actual belongings and were needed so I didn’t need to moderate the props used.

Fonts and Styles

• I kept same colour and style throughout issue to make it consistent and professional. I used different font colour to draw attention to text that I wanted the viewer to notice.

• Originally, I wanted something more aggressive but changed because of problems with text from DaFont (it would have been too time consuming to colour all the pixels in the font *see below) and the desired font not suiting genre as it was a font that would be more associated with a (heavy) rock magazine.

The mode of address in my magazine is laid back, informal language in attempt to appeal to target audience, much like kerrang! Magazine.

Written Content

A majority of the above however, the costume (left) and mode of address I feel (example below) was the most important factors in reflecting the genre.

How is genre reflected in your magazine?

“Yani (aka “Jesus”) is by far the cool bassist you are ever going to meet”
