In what ways does your media product use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 2: Evaluation 1

Within our video we have followed / challenged / used and developed Goodwin’s

principals.

Page 3: Evaluation 1

Our video is narrative based which challenges Goodwin's theory of genre characteristics. As our song fits into the indie/rock genre, these types of video are performance based and show the band performing there song. Our song video is narrative based, with no performance aspects, this is so that the audience is mainly focused on the story line of the girl, and can become deeply absorbed into the song.

Conventional indie video –Artists are performing

This is unconvential, the artists do not feature at all.

Page 5: Evaluation 1

Our video follows and uses the element of having a relationship between the music and visuals. This happens in various parts of our video.

- During the words ‘dear diary’ the character is shown writing in her diary.

- During the words ‘sticks and stones’ people are shown throwing sticks at her.

‘So Dear Diary I’m not fine’ ‘Sticks and stones can’t break my bones’

Page 7: Evaluation 1

• Our video has challenged close ups of artists/ star motif as we don't feature the band at all. Instead we have just focused on the character, this has been done so the audience get absorbed in the storyline.

Our video features the Goodwin’s convention of voyeurism.

Page 10: Evaluation 1

We used voyeurism to create depth to our video as the audience can see through the individuals own view. We felt that it made it more interesting and more personal to the artist when the lyrics fit. For example from our lyrics, the line, 'Please inform if it may seem too unkind', are referring to the artist or main character in the video, so an act of voyeurism, e.g looking into a mirror, makes it more personal as the lyrics say 'me'.

We have developed a visual style visual style through all 3 media

products.

Page 12: Evaluation 1

The visual style has been developed, mainly by using the same imagery for all 3 products. They all feature the character with her diary, in the woodland setting. This has been done purposefully so the products integrate effectively. They all have the same fonts, and feature dull colours to reflect the mood of the video.
