EVALUATION 2IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCTS USE,

DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

FRONT COVER• I made my front cover look more professional by

making it more minimalistic than magazines like Top of the Pops and other childish magazines that are very busy and just trying to catch the attention of younger teens. Big, bold text in monochrome colours for the masthead and title and not many coverlines achieved this. Also having only one main picture made the magazine more focused and simple, creating a classier and older feel. A simple and not too bold sky line added to the professional vibe by giving extra information about the magazine without being too in-your-face with only one colour rather than loads of bright colours. I hope that my photoshop of Freya my model also makes the cover look professional as it is very clean cut and makes a good bold statement for the cover.

CONTENTS PAGEI made my contents page look more professional by first of all sticking to the same font as the front cover, giving house style to the magazine. Unlike other media magazines that I found on the internet, I feel mine looks more professional because how neat it is, yet how filled it is, just like a real magazine wouldn’t have about 3 contents features.I’ve still stuck with the minimalism and the monochrome colours making it look very basic yet classy, and the mainimage is again very clean cut and in keeping with the theme. I also included an editors letter, something many real magazines have, which gives it more of a professional vibe. I also tried to stick with only photographs, as I feel cartoons etc. don’t help the magazine look authentic and modern.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD• The first thing I did to make my double page spread look

more professional was add the name of the magazine in the top left corner, just like the contents page. I felt this made a big difference as it is what the big magazines do and makes the age look more realistic. I also kept the same typography for the name of the pop star IGGY AZALEA, again contributing to the house style of the product. I kept with the minimal and classy colour scheme but this time opted for grey and deep red as obviously not every page in a magazine is the same colour, but there is still a flow. The main image again being clean cut and on the one half of the page and then the article being on the other makes it look professional as this is how its done in most double page articles. The neatness of the text makes the page look more controlled and less messy and all over the place, just like a real magazine. I also made sure I had a proper headline in a different font to the article, big and bold to draw attention, varying in size to make it look interesting and also had a strapline and a stand first paragraph as they are the main conventions of a double page spread.
