How effective is the combination of your main

product and ancillary texts?

Page 2: Evaluation 2

Real Products Many pop stars rely on their star image in order to sell their music thus, maintaining a consistent image across a music video, magazine advert and digipak/album cover increases the promotional value of the product overall which leads to better sales.

Real ProductsColdplay who influenced the layout of our magazine advert reveals coherency throughout the products through font and photography. Like Coldplay, we used the same style of image and font as on the magazine advert in our digipak

Real Products• Like Coldplay and other ancillary texts, I have maintained the same

font and colour scheme throughout.

Real Products: The Process• In the early stages of creating our digipak and magazine advert, we

had to do some research in order to discover the best way to advertise the indie rock image. During the research phase we looked at other bands in our genre and were influenced on some of the creative decisions they had made to sell their music.• As neither my peers or myself knew what a digipak was, we had to

use Google to find examples.

The ProcessHere is the Google search we undertook.

The Process: Deciding on Font• When we were deciding on the font we wanted to use, we searched

into Google, “Indie Rock Style Font”

This style of font was the one we felt to represent the image we wanted.

Influences on Style• Secondly, we had to go back to our moodboard to remind ourselves of

the image that we wanted to portray.• Afterwards, we started researching bands such as Coldplay who

matched our ‘rock’ image requirement. Additionally, we looked at the Artic Monkey’s who use a black and white look in their digipak covers to represent the genre.

Choosing the Right Photographs• By far this was one of the most difficult tasks in creating our digipak and advert,

as the way these pictures were taken will ultimately formulate the image we portrayed, whether it was intentional or not.• We looked at the Artic Monkeys and the way they had taken their photographs.

One of the first things we noticed is how casual and laid back they were with their clothing. Due to them being laid back with their clothing we were not too concerned in wearing matching outfits as we had done in our music video. Instead just like them we wore sunglasses and which ever clothes we wanted to wear.
