How did you attract/address your

audience?

Page 2: Evaluation task 5

The target audience or our film would mainly come under the tribe ‘Mainstream’. It is the biggest part of the market, but I believe that because our film comes under the genre action. Mostly young, middle-age men would be interested in the film, as they like the adrenaline of the action films and take in the characters as a role model. In order to achieve this we had to create tension through the shots that we took throughout the sequence. By building the tension we left a long pause in the middle of the sequence and let the audience just focus on the sound. This built up the tension for the last shot.

Our thriller starts of with a trolley being pushed down a dark corridor, this shows a gloomy side to the beginning of the thriller. It attracts the audience into the thriller, as they want to find out what is on the trolley, who is pushing it and where they are pushing it. The main idea is to leave the audience asking questions. These shots that show a dodgy trolley cart can attract the age of the target audience.

We then showed an over the shoulder shot, so you are able to see the length of the corridor. The audience are then able to see that the corridor is white with little light getting to it. At the end is a door with a glass window which is carrying a feint reflection of the man pushing the trolley. This all adds to the gloomy and scary corridor, that our target audience will like. The camera then pans down from the face , across the tattooed arms, this gives off the stereotypical view of a scary tough man, this would attract the age group that we are looking for. It then ends on the outline of a face, covered by a white sheet. Leaving the audience wanting more.

At this point in the sequence, we want our target audience to be asking questions about the trolley. Who is in dead? Why are they dead? Where are they? What have they done? This keeps the audience wanting more of the film, keeps them interested to keep watching and enjoy the film. As our target audience is young – middle age men. They wouldn’t over think some of the questions unlike the women. Therefore they stay interested.

Here again, we see the body in the back of a van, and a simple shot of someone shutting the doors. The audience then automatically think this is a mortuary van. So presumably they think the person is dead. The van starts driving of and the screen goes black. The audience focuses on the sound that is playing through out the darkness. They hear a few bangs throughout the journey of the trolley moving around. You then hear the hand break and the van stopping. The audience assume there is movement in the back.

Here is the final shot of the sequence. You are then able to see that when Adam the driver opens the van doors, you can see an over the shoulder shot of the supposedly dead man. He shoots Adam dead before he can do anything about it. The audience then uses their own imagination to think what is going to happen next. Is he going to run? Is he going to steal the van? The target audience being the young to middle age man will carry on the story in a way that they think will impress them the most.
