From our Pastor
Update from Northside Christian Academy
As the coach of the Northside Christian Academy boys and girls basketball
teams, I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with over 30 amazing
middle school students who have impacted me more than I have them. Thoughour school merely started a few months ago, we were able to pull together
enough students to form a girls and boys basketball team and a cheerleading
squad. Many of our students had yet to set foot on a basketball court, but were
merely excited at the opportunity to be part of a team, and represent their
school. At our rst meeting I read Philippians 2:3-4, Do nothing out of
selsh ambition or vain conceit. Rather in
humility value others above yourselves, not
looking to your own interests but each of you
to the interests of others. We stress loving one
another not only on the basketball court, but
off as well. Through our basketball team, we
hope to represent not only Northside Baptist
Church and Northside Christian Academy, but
Jesus Christ. Our schedule features a number
of different private schools from around the
midlands and Aiken/Augusta area. Some
of these schools are faith-based, others
are not. Our athletes have conducted
themselves in a manner worthy of respect
and honor in the rst few games of the
season. Not one word has been spoken in
vain to a referee or opposing player, and
no frustrations have been voiced on the
court. Our students are exemplifying what
it means to play with class, especially in the
face of adversity. We have the opportunity
to let Christ shine through as our reason
for these actions, not only from our players,
but from our families as well who cheer on
the athletes at our games. Winning, though
preferred, is not the ultimate goal. At the end
of the day we want to have represented our
God in a way he would be pleased with, no matter the circumstances. As we
build our athletic program here at Northside Christian Academy we will keep
these principles in mind, and always try to look to the interests of others before
our own. We will continue to stress these principles to our students, and hope
that their example will show others the love and compassion of Christ. We
encourage you to come out and cheer on our Crusaders, you can
nd the schedule on the NCA website!
Coach Devin Olenick
Northside Christian Academy
New years always bring new
opportunities; but the opportunity
God has given Northside, as
we enter 2012, is without a doubt
the greatest opportunity we have ever
experienced as a church family. He has given us
a brand new facility in one of the best locations in
the Midlands. A new elementary school (MeadowGlen Elementary) opened this past year and a new
middle school (Meadow Glen Middle) will open
this coming year adjacent to our campus. A new
high school (River Bluff) will be opening within
a mile of our campus the following year. Even in
a depressed housing market, new homes are being
built all around our new campus. Our location, right
off of I-20 on Hwy 378, makes us easily accessible
to anyone in the Midlands. We have already sold
part of our old campus and because of that, we have
been able to pay down 1.3 million dollars of debt on
our new campus!
I am convinced God is doing everything possible to
position us to impact our community, our state, ournation, and our world. But you will not hear me use
the phrase from the movie, Field of Dreams, build
it and they will come. A beautiful campus or great
location doesnt reach people for Christ. People
reach people for Christ! God has entrusted us with
a great location and a great campusbut it is up to
us to reach our world.
So what can we do? Make a commitment to
pray. As we launch Lighthouses of Prayer,
make a commitment to be a prayer warrior for your
community. Make a commitment to invite. It is
true that most people will visit if invited by a friend
or acquaintance. Heres what I know people are
much more likely to come if invited. Use the Invite
Cards we provide as an opportunity to invite people
to join us for worship. Make a commitment to
welcome those who attend. There are times that
we get so busy fellowshipping with our friends that
we fail to make newcomers feel welcome. First
impressions are lasting impressions. Lets not let a
rst time guest leave without feeling like an honored
guest. Make a commitment to share your faith.
Your ministers have made a commitment to set the
example in personal evangelism but we cant do it
alone. An army of 1000 is much more powerful
than an army of 8. In the coming weeks you will
hear how we can see hundreds of people saved and
baptized every year. Make a commitment to give.
We will never accomplish the task God has given
us to reach the world until we begin to sacrice notonly our time but our treasures.
This is our year of destiny! It is my prayer that by
year end we will have seen over 200 people saved
and baptized and over 300 new people actively
involved in the Northside Family. Lets join
together and make it happen.
Whatever it takes,
Pastor Rocky
