The fayetteville area is home to our nation’s largest military installation based on personnel.

And there is something vital going on at fort Bragg and Pope Air force Base. That’s what keeps the men and women of our armed forces ready at a moment’s notice to protect our freedom. Come learn more about America’s proud military history and traditions. Fort Bragg HistoryOriginally known as “Camp Bragg,” this Army post was established by Congress

in 1918 as a field artillery site. The airborne tradition began in 1934 with the first

military parachute jump using an artillery observation balloon as a platform. In 1952,

fort Bragg also became home to the Army’s Special forces (Green Berets), when the

Psychological warfare Center (now the Special Operations Command) was established

here. Today, fort Bragg is the world’s largest airborne facility with such prestigious

units as the 82nd Airborne Division and the XvIII Airborne Corps. The world famous

“Golden Knights” (the U.S. Army’s Parachute Team) also call fort Bragg home.

Pope air Force Base HistoryOne of the oldest installations in the

Air force, “Pope field” was established

by the war Department in 1919. Today,

Pope Air force Base houses the 43rd

and 440th Airlift wings, whose two

squadrons of C-130E transport planes

can immediately deploy personnel,

equipment, and supplies anywhere in

the world. It is also home to the 18th

Sir Support Operations Group, one of

the Air force’s most decorated combat

units, and the Combat Control School,

the training center for many Airmen in

Airforce Special Operations Command.

when you’re traveling, part of the fun is being somewhere new and exciting. However,

sometimes you do like the creature comforts of home…or at least some familiar names and faces. fortunately, in “America’s Home Town” we have all of your favorite hotel chains, bed & breakfasts, and even campsites. So no matter how you choose to snooze, when you visit fayetteville you will rest easy every night.

regardless of where you’re staying and no matter how nice the accommodations, all

hotels, inns, and other accommodations could use a little bit of your own personal

touches so they will feel more like home. Here are just a few examples:

Hang it up. Don’t live out of a suitcase; hang up your clothes and put them in

drawers just like you do at home. This also eliminates clutter and who needs that?

Bring your own. Even if your hotel has toiletry items, we all have our favorites so

take them on the road; your favorite shampoo or soap is the perfect way to start—or

end—your day.

Get personal. Even one favorite

item from home can add a lot to

your room. A framed photo of your

loved ones would look perfect on

your nightstand.

No matter how long you’re visiting us,

the last thing we want is for you to get

homesick. Then again, you may enjoy

fayetteville so much that you’ll never

want to leave and that’s just fine with us!

of Atlanta and Charlotte every day. Once you arrive you’ll find a

variety of rental car options that will make your trip even simpler.

Getting to Greater fayetteville via North Carolina’s beautiful blue

skies is quick and easy.

Then there are those of us that like to travel at a more relaxed pace

and revel in the glory of the golden age of transportation via the

“iron horse” better known as the train. Amtrak makes four local

stops—two southbound, two northbound—every day so you can

spend your travel time marveling at the

natural splendor outside your window

until the train pulls into the historic

depot right in the heart of downtown

fayetteville. All aboard!

fortunately, if you want to leave the

plane and train schedules behind, you

are definitely in luck as fayetteville is

even easier to get to by car. Conveniently located right off Interstate

95, we have the perfect pit stop for a couple of hours, a couple of

days...or even a couple of weeks! As easy as Greater fayetteville is

to get to, you’ll still find it hard to leave!
