LISD Food Service Message Information on Student Meal Accounts Lackland ISD wants each student to be successful and we believe that a hungry student my not be performing up to their full potential. Therefore, we provide all students who go through our serving line with a meal even when they do not have sufficient funds to pay for the meal. We understand that some parents don’t always have sufficient funds in their children’s meal account for numerous reasons. When this only involves a couple meals we do not worry too much about it because our parents are great about resolving their account balance within a few days. However, we are seeing a trend of several families not resolving the payment for their students’ lunches in a timely manner. Since our Lackland ISD policy does not provide a charge account for any student meals we are reminding everyone of our school lunch policy and collection procedures. Cost - Currently, a nutritious breakfast meal is provided at a cost of $1.00 and a well-balanced lunch menu is provided at $2.00. Additionally, families that qualify based on income criteria are eligible for free or reduced cost for these meals. Each family is encouraged to review the criteria for this program and complete an application. Please contact our food service manager, Mr. Marcus Rodriguez, in the cafeteria, through email ([email protected]) or phone (201-357-5056) for assistance. Our Food Service web site, www.lacklandisd.net, provides a “Child Nutrition” link to additional information. Student Meal Accounts We provide student meal accounts as a service to allow parents to pre-pay for meals so their students do not have to provide cash for each meal. The student lunch account may be funded by prepayment with cash or checks locally, or through a credit card charge made on-line. Parents have on-line access to the account status, to monitor the daily balance, see what meals are purchased, and other features to set reminders to help maintain a sufficient balance. Initial Notification of Insufficient Account Balance LEVEL 1: Students are informed when they go through the serving line (in a respectful manner) when their meal account does not have insufficient funds and are requested to remind their parents. Additionally, we provide a notice to the campus principals and will send a written reminder to the family of their need to resolve the balance in their child’s meal account. For most cases this is all that needs to be done. LISD Food Service Message Information on Student Meal Accounts

Lackland ISD wants each student to be successful and we believe

that a hungry student my not be performing up to their full

potential. Therefore, we provide all students who go through our

serving line with a meal even when they do not have sufficient funds

to pay for the meal. We understand that some parents don’t always

have sufficient funds in their children’s meal account for numerous

reasons. When this only involves a couple meals we do not worry too

much about it because our parents are great about resolving their

account balance within a few days. However, we are seeing a trend

of several families not resolving the payment for their students’

lunches in a timely manner. Since our Lackland ISD policy does not

provide a charge account for any student meals we are reminding

everyone of our school lunch policy and collection procedures.

Cost - Currently, a nutritious breakfast meal is provided at a cost of

$1.00 and a well-balanced lunch menu is provided at $2.00.

Additionally, families that qualify based on income criteria are

eligible for free or reduced cost for these meals. Each family is

encouraged to review the criteria for this program and complete an

application. Please contact our food service manager,

Mr. Marcus Rodriguez, in the cafeteria, through email

([email protected]) or phone (201-357-5056) for

assistance. Our Food Service web site, www.lacklandisd.net,

provides a “Child Nutrition” link to additional information.

Student Meal Accounts – We provide student meal accounts as a

service to allow parents to pre-pay for meals so their students do not

have to provide cash for each meal. The student lunch account may

be funded by prepayment with cash or checks locally, or through a

credit card charge made on-line. Parents have on-line access to the

account status, to monitor the daily balance, see what meals are

purchased, and other features to set reminders to help maintain a

sufficient balance.

Initial Notification of Insufficient Account Balance – LEVEL 1:

Students are informed when they go through the serving line (in a

respectful manner) when their meal account does not have

insufficient funds and are requested to remind their parents.

Additionally, we provide a notice to the campus principals and will

send a written reminder to the family of their need to resolve the

balance in their child’s meal account. For most cases this is all that

needs to be done.

Written Notice – Level 2: We have a few parents that are taking advantage of our procedures and

have allowed their student meal account to go beyond the $20.00 negative balance limit with some

currently over $50.00 in un-approved debt. We are initiating actions to both collect for these debts

and implement use of an alternate meal for any student with a meal account of more than $20.00 in

arrears. Additionally, students will not be allowed to purchase items from the snack line while their

regular student meal account has a negative balance. This level of notice will be through a written

letter, signed by our Executive Director for Operations and Technology, requesting prompt payment

and providing guidance for clearing this un-approved debt. We will allow five business days for the

student account balance to be resolved before we move to the next level.

Alternate Meal - The alternate meal will consist of a cheese sandwich and milk at a cost of $.75. We

will provide this meal in a respectful manner. Once the amount of insufficient funds exceeds $20.00

we stop providing a regular meal and make a reduced meal available (cheese sandwich and milk at a

cost of $.75 per meal). Parents/Guardian/Students are still responsible for paying for this meal, when

provided.

Additional Collection Process – Level 3, Level 4, and Final: Individuals who do not resolve the

student’s meal account after a formal request to make payment will be moved to Level 3. At Level 3

we will provide a notice to the military member’s First Sergeant/Commander that a debt is owed to

Lackland ISD and the military member has not taken responsibility to pay the debt. Again, we will

allow 5 business days for the member to resolve the negative balance in their child’s meal account

before we move to level 4. At level 4, our Superintendent will provide our documented attempts to

collect on the student meal account debt to the Deputy Base Commander who also serves as the LISD

Base Liaison Officer. We allow 10 business days for the student lunch account to be restored to a

positive balance before we proceed to other legal proceeding to collect on an unapproved debt.

Points of contact: The following information is provided to help you resolve issues with your child’s

meal account.

Congratulations to the 2nd grade class for their presentation of “This Old Gingerbread

House” on Tuesday evening. Led By the fabulous Ms. Cara Coffey, the students belted

out numbers such as “This Old House Is Yummy”, “Take One Step” and “Sorry”. There

was a wonderful turnout of parents, teachers and family members who all enjoyed the

show. Thanks to all who helped make this performance possible!

Stacey Faculty takes on Middle School By: Meagan Fleming, Freshman

On Friday, February 8th, the Jr. High Student Council organized a faculty vs. students basketball game in the Stacey gym. It was four ten-minute quarters of Lackland ISD faculty against the four middle school basketball teams. Mrs. Horn was the coach for the faculty team. The final score, with a crazy outcome, was Faculty 48 to Students 44. The game had many laughs and was a lot of fun to watch. The Jr. High

Student Council raised over $170 at the game. Thanks to all who participated!
