It’s good to be back to work and seeing you and your children again. I enjoyed my time away but am also very grateful for my Kendal family as well. The next two months will be busy as we celebrate Valentine’s Day and start a new study in our classroom. We are also hoping that in this time frame we will be ready to go with the time clock on the giraffe door. Currently, the time clock is working but it is not releasing the door to open so we are working on that issue at the moment. On the vary day that I returned we also received a grant from the Stocker Foundation for $1,000 to be put towards our literacy program! Jennifer Perrino left while I was gone and Gabbie is back at JVS finishing her classes. This month we also have a new afternoon teacher starting. Lisa Turchik will be working in the afternoons with our preschool program. She has her associate’s in Early Childhood Education and is working on completing her bachelor’s degree as well. Lisa will be here when you pick up your children in the afternoon and I hope you will take the time to welcome her. Enjoy the next months! Jeni Hoover

Birthdays This Month:

February 9 – Brooklyn turns 4! March 24 – Layla turns 5!

Happy, Happy Birthday to You! Intergenerational News:

Lyn Cope brought in her dog Basil to the room. The

children really enjoyed petting him and loved his little boots he wore! She also brought him to our Grandfriend Valentine’s Celebration and allowed the children to hold his leash and walk him around the auditorium.

Also at our Grandfriends Valentine’s Celebration the children (at the request of their Grandfriends) put on a little impromptu concert on the stage. Everyone wanted to hear them sing. They sang “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and, of course, “Let it Go’” among a few Christmas favorites. It was so adorable and the Grandfriends were so proud of them!

From the Classroom:

From the Classroom:

The trip to the Botanical Gardens in Cleveland was a big success! The children learned about living and non-living things. They explored in the desert of Madagascar and the butterfly-filled rainforest of Costa Rica in the Glasshouse. The children were given clip-boards to draw pictures of the living and non-living things they saw. They especially loved searching for butterflies. We are wrapping up our study on exercise. The children have had a blast learning different exercises. A special thanks to Layla’s mom, Lindsay, for coming and doing Yoga with the children and to Kendal’s Dietician, Sue, for talking about healthy foods that give us energy. We also explored the fitness center here at Kendal; the children enjoyed seeing all the machines and had many questions about them. Our Valentine’s Day party was a huge success as was our Valentine’s Celebration with our Grandfriends. For our party the children made Sugar-Free Strawberry Fluff and passed out Valentines. The children were so excited to pass out their Valentine cards. Then we celebrated with our Grandfriends in the Auditorium. They decorated cookies, made Valentines, played with play dough, and many other fun activities. We will be beginning our study on Recycling so please remember to bring in different types of recyclables or junk. We will be reusing items to make collages, sculptures, and a variety of other things. We thought this would be a good study as we have been talking about saving water and paper towels in the classroom. Thank you in advance for all your donations. Have a great month! Sara, Mary, and Karen
