February 14 Announcements Chancel Visuals: We are now entering the soul-searching season of Lent. In a real sense we join Jesus in the wilderness being tested, reflecting upon our relationship with God, introspection about our spiritual lives, and seeking God's mission and purpose for our lives. The visuals in the chancel reflect the Lenten journey. The materials used are purple for the season, muted colors, dried natural plants, and burlap covering the brass crosses and candle stands. The collection of eight candles represent the six Sundays of Lent plus Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday observed in the Sanctuary. The cross made of sticks lies against the altar in the position Jesus might have carried His cross to Calvary. ~ Ashley Calhoun The altar flowers today are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Edith Long Fultz and Russell Fultz who were married 70 years ago in Long's Chapel, on February 9, 1946, by their daughters Elaine and Sally, their sons-in-law John and Cha- pin, and their grandsons Adam, John Kirk, and Russell. What to do when it snows on Sunday… When winter weather is a factor, we will post any changes in the worship schedule on the church answering system. Just call 456-3993, ext. 40. Those with computer access are asked NOT TO CALL the church office but to visit our website (LongsChapel.com), tune into WLOS and watch for church closings or check Facebook at Facebook.com/ longschapel. Any changes will be posted no later than 7:40 am. Every Wednesday night we come together in the Fellowship Hall (5-6:15 pm) to share a meal before heading out to class, the Sanctuary or small group meetings. No reservation required. Pricing: $6 Adults & children 12 & over; $4 children ages 5-11 (children 4 & under eat free); $18 Family max. This week’s menu : Meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green peas, salad, rolls, dessert, coffee and tea. Children’s menu available weekly. You are invited to attend Wednesday Nights in the Sanctuary at 6:15 pm to 7:15 pm beginning Feb. 17 through March 30 for Adam Hamilton’s new study “The Call”. The Apostle Paul and his fellow missionaries turned the ancient world upside down by preaching a gospel of Christ’s life, death and resurrection. Come journey with us to the ancient early church sites filmed on lo- cation and hear penetrating insights that have profoundly shaped every branch of Christianity. No sign ups necessary – just show up whenever you are able to join us. By the way, Wednesday Nights in the Sanctuary is the perfect opportunity for those who are not able to attend a weekly study due to work and busy schedules. When you get a chance to be with us on Wed. nights, there is always a class for you in the Sanctuary. Attention All Cuddlers: As you probably know, we have lots of babies in our nursery and there are more on the way. We are in desperate need of some volunteer Cuddlers at our 9:40 service. Cuddlers are those of you who like to cuddle, rock and whis- per sweet nothings. You do not have to change diapers because our staff is there to do that. All you have to do is cuddle. If you are interested in being a Cuddler on a rotating basis, please contact Wendy McKenzie at [email protected] or call 828-400-7501. I look forward to hearing from you. Operation Christmas Child News… As 2016 begins, we want to rejoice over the blessings of 2015. Long’s Chapel once again exceeded our goal and packed 875 shoe boxes for children around the world. We were already so excited about that, and it was then announced that the total collection of OCC shoe boxes for 2015 was 11.2 million. Thank You, Lord and thank you to each of you who helped in any way. God bless you for your giving, servant hearts. Now we begin our collection for this year and the items for February are combs, brushes, and hair accessories for the girls. The OCC bin will be in the Gathering Area beginning this month and you can drop all items in it each week. If you have questions or ideas, you can contact the Jarrells at 246-0331. Stretching your faith yoga class meets weekly on Fridays at 10:00 am in room 505. Led by Kim Mulholland, certified yoga and YogaFaith instructor. Geared to any level of yoga experience and beginners. Come and experience prayer in motion. Classes are by donations which support many ministries.
