F&F A FURNITURE & FITTINGS SKILL COUNCIL INITIATIVE Issue 8 F&F AN EYE TO FURNITURE: JOURNAL OF FFSC ISSUE: 8 MAY-JUNE 2018 From the Chairman’s Desk Dear Readers, My warmest greetings to you all. We started the month by signing the MoU with Bhartiya Skill Development University (BSDU) with an objective of development of relevant curriculum, courses, information database, delivery system, standardisation, accreditation and certification processes to enhance the employability of the Indian workforce globally. On 5 th of May 2018, Aajeevika Evam Kaushal Mela and Rozgar Mela were organised in different locations to generate awareness and enthusiam among the youths. With the support of affiliated Training Partners; the Melas were conducted at Balia, Balasore, Khilchipur, Mansa, Ranchi, Ratia, Sakhigopal, Tikamgarh, Vidhisha and Rampur. The different stages of competioin for selection of finalist for WorldSkills 2019, Kazan, Russia have been started in full fledge. The Regional Competition of West and North were held at Jaipur and Luckow respectively. The candidates selected by states, different institutes, wild card entries and through national portal; particpated in the regional competition.I congratulate all the winners and runners up of the competition. The Southern Regional Competition is going to be held from 21 st to 23 rd June 2018 at Bangalore International Exhibition Center, Bengalure. The boot camp for the regional competition is scheduled for 18 th to 20 th June at Bosch Artisan Training Center, Bengaluru. Six participants from each trades (carpentary and cabinet making) will contest in finals of Indiaskills 2018 which is going to be held from 15 th to 17 th July 2018. We are trying to improve both our training and assessment process. With an effort to orient the trainees towards more practical based training, we have introduced small test projects concepts. Even the assessment will be done on the basis of evalaution of the test projects. We are making all our assessment process online, with the provision of live streaming. It will help us in monitoring the assessments from our Head Office, Gurgaon. FFSC has organised a half day worskhop for our industry partners to brief and apprise them about NAPs, RPL Type-4 and Job portal of FFSC. This kind of workshop will help the industry to understand the skill ecosystem in a better way. This will promote the association between FFSC and industries. I urge more and more industry to come forward and become an active contributor in the Skill India Mission. I hope you will like our this edition. From the Chairman’s Desk

Dear Readers, My warmest greetings to you all. We started the month by signing the MoU with Bhartiya Skill Development University (BSDU) with an objective of development of relevant curriculum, courses, information database, delivery system, standardisation, accreditation and certification processes to enhance the employability of the Indian workforce globally.

On 5th of May 2018, Aajeevika Evam Kaushal Mela and Rozgar Mela were organised in different locations to generate awareness and enthusiam among the youths. With the support of affiliated Training Partners; the Melas were conducted at Balia, Balasore,

Khilchipur, Mansa, Ranchi, Ratia, Sakhigopal, Tikamgarh, Vidhisha and Rampur.

The different stages of competioin for selection of finalist for WorldSkills 2019, Kazan, Russia have been started in full fledge. The Regional Competition of West and North were held at Jaipur and Luckow respectively. The candidates selected by states, different institutes, wild card entries and through national portal; particpated in the regional competition.I congratulate all the winners and runners up of the competition.

MoU signing with Bharitya Skill Development University (BSDU): BSDU is the first State Private University which offfers certificate, Diploma, Advance Diploma, Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc), Master of Vocation (M.Voc) and Ph.D in various skill areas. BSDU programs are in compliance with UGC Instructions for Vocational Programs, National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), AICTE Instruction for Vocational Programs. The whole training is based on Swiss Dual System comprising of “On the job Training” and “Vocational School” which has been adopted after carrying out due modifications to suit the Indian industry. FFSC and BSDU signed MoU to patner in skill development initiatives to promote the skilling in furniture & fittings trade. Aajeevika Evam Kaushal Mela and Rozgar Melas On 5th May 2018, Kaushal and Rozgar Melas were organised in various parts of India with an objective to motivate the poorest of women, youth and their families to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm. The employers offered jobs to the youths during the Rozgar Mela. Certiifcates were also distributed to the successful candidates.

Workshop/ Seminar (Importance of Skill Development in Indian Furniture Industry)

To accelerate and synergise the efforts of indusries towards the Skill India Mission, a half day Workshop was

organsied by FFSC at CII, Gurgaon in 13th June 2018. Representatives from different industries attended the programme. The attendees were briefed about National Apprenticeship Schemes, RPL-Type 4 and ffscmerahunar job portal. It was a platform to connect industry and FFSC with various activities of Skill India Mission.

Indiaskills -2018 30 states across the country have begun their journey towards IndiaSkills 2018 with 50+ skills and more than 50,000 youths who have registered for the competition. India will be participating in Carpentary and Cabinet Making trades of Furniture & Fittings at the Worldskills 2019 at Kazan, Rusia. The Worldskills competition is going to be held from 22nd to 27th August 2019. FFSC is an intergral part of the competiiton through out the process of Indiaskills and Worldskills competition. For Indiaskills 2018, candidates were selected through three modes:

Track 1 – Nomination on National Portal, candidates belonging to states opted for carpentary and cabinet making. The concerned State Skill Missions have sponsored 2 candidates in each trade who have came via track 1 competitions.

Track 2 – Nomination on National Portal, candidates who belongs to states which did not opt for FFSC’s trades

Track 3 – Nomination on National Portal, candidates belonging to institutes or wild card entries

Track 2 and 3 Competitions were held at Bharitya Skill Development University, Jaipur and Caple Industrial Solutions, Bengaluru. Out of 18 candidates participated in track 2 and 3 competitions 15 candidates were shortlisted on the basis of Jury member decision and marking scheme. FFSC has got 3 more entries via Institute nominations 2 from National Institute of Design, (NID) Ahemadabad and 1 from Bosch India Foundation, Bengaluru under Cabinet Making Trade.

Regional Competition – West ( Trades: Cabinet Making and Carpentary) The Regional Competition for West was held during 24th, 25th and 26th May 2018 at Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Center, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Carpentary and Cabinet Making were the two trades in which competition was held. Two particpants each from Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh particpated in the Carpentary competition. Two candidates from Bharitya Skill Development University (BSDU) partipiated in the Carpentary competition through Track 2 and Track 3 mode. In Cabinet Making canddiates two candidates from Gujarat, Odisha and Maharashtra particapated along with one candidate of Maharashtra. Caple Industrial Solutions and Bosch India Foundation provided the required infrastructure support for the competition. Jury and workshop manager support was provided by Caple Industrial Solutions, Bharitya Skill Development University (BSDU), I Raj Evolutions Design Company Private Limited (IEVO), Bosch India Foundation and NID Ahmedabad. Three candidates from Track 2 and 3 mode represented Bosch India Foundations in Cabinet Making. The finalists are:

i. Carpentry – Mr. Vikash Kumar Naga from BSDU and Runner up – Mr. Amar from Haryana ii. Cabinet Making – Mr. Rajesh. P.Solanki from Gujarat, first runner up – Mr. Santosh Ojha from Odisha

and second runner up – Mr. Amar Prem Kale from Maharashtra

The competition was held in Carpentary trade. Two particpants each from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Chandigarh particpated in the Carpentary competition. Two candidates from IEVO and Hettich Poddar Woodworking Institute partipiated in the competition through Track 2 and Track 3 mode. Caple Industrial Solutions provided the required infrastructure support for the competition. Jury and workshop manager support was provided by Caple Industrial Solutions, Bharitya Skill Development University (BSDU), I Raj Evolutions Design Company Private Limited (IEVO), and Bosch India Foundation.
