F&F A FURNITURE & FITTINGS SKILL COUNCIL INITIATIVE Issue 10 F&F AN EYE TO FURNITURE: JOURNAL OF FFSC ISSUE: 10 SEP-OCT 2018 From the Chairman’s Desk Dear Readers, My warmest greetings to you all. Furniture and Fiitings Skill Council(FFSC) is making all its efforts to connect youths to employers. The Rozgar Mela is an opportunity for the job seekers to learn more about potential employers and various employment opportunities aviailable, including entrepreneurship. Last month, FFSC has participated in the Rozgar Melas of Udaipur, Indore and Bikaner to give platform to employers to meet the potential employees. More than hundred candidates registered for Apprenticeship shceme and two hundred candidates were offered job. IndiaSkills Competition 2018, organised by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) was orgnaised from 2nd to 6th October 2018. 9 candidates in Joinery trade and 6 candidates in Cabinet Making competed in IndiaSkils 2018. I congratulate all the winners of IndiaSkills 2018. Two candidates from Joinery and Cabinet Making trade will undergo vigorous training for nine months by industry members of FFSC. At least three mock tests will be conducted and the winner of the test will represent India at WorldSkills- Kazan 2019. I am optimistic that the finalists will raise the bar and will bring laurels to country at the WorldSkills next year. Apart from organising regular Governing Council Meetings, FFSC has conducted Steering Meeting of Industry members. The Steering Committee is a small group of members to facilitate the actvities of FFSC. RPL-Best in Class Employer (Type-4) under PKMVY 2016-20 is being envisaged to ensure skills available in the organised sector with best in class employers. This will help achieve certification at scale while ensuring quality of certification at lower operational cost. I am glad our industry members have shown interest for the RPL certification of their employees. FFSC has also started orientention of the candidates for the assessment and certification. I am hopeful that efforts of FFSC will help and contribute to the Skill India Mission in a positive way. I hope you will find our this edition useful. EuroSkills Budapest EuroSkills Competition is the regional version of WorldSkills Competition, formerly known as “Skills Olympics”. It is the European Championship of young professionals, held every two years in one of the WorldSkills Europe members states. Team India participated in EuroSkills Budapest 2018 in Hungary to compete as guest competitiors in 8 skills from 26th to 28th September 2018. Mr Sushit from Furniture & Fittings Skill Council represented India in Joinery Skills.

Furniture & Fittings Skill Council participated in Woodex Asia-2018 held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India from 28th to 30th September 2018. It is one of the finest trade show for woodworking machinery, furniture hardware, power tools, plywood, panel, laminates, wood flooring, doors, windows and wood related products etc.

IndiaSkills 2018 Competition IndiaSkills National Competition 2018 was inagurated on October 2nd, followed by the skill competition from 3rd October to 5th October 2018 at Aerocity Grounds in New Delhi. More than 400 participants across 27 states showcased their talent across 46 skills, 10 traditional skills and 4 demo skills. The winners across different skills were felicitated during closing ceremony on 6th October 2018, New Delhi. Apart from skill competitions, the event hosted several engaging intiaitves such as career counselling, skill exhibition etc.
