ForewordI am pleased to present the 2010 FIESTA summer activity programme for young people. Our FIESTA programme has gained a reputation in providing a wide range of high quality learning opportunities for our young people. The expertise of our staff and partners and the investment of the council have enabled the programme to continue to grow.

The council works with partners from the voluntary, education, and community sectors, including Uxbridge College and a number of smaller agencies. Our joint intention is to provide high quality programmes that engage young people in constructive leisure time activities, informal learning and personal development, at a cost that is affordable to our residents.

Additional support for the programme has been secured from General Mills UK. This means we have a larger programme for young people and families in 2010. I commend the programme to you, and look forward to another successful FIESTA.

Cllr David SimmondsDeputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Services

WelcomeWe’ve built on the huge success of last year’s programme to give young people new activities to choose from as well as all the favourites from last year. We’ve done this through the support of our partners and we’ve increased our locations with the new young people’s centres and sports and leisure centres.

Young people in Hillingdon also enjoy an additional benefit from our link with Futureversity (formally Summer Uni London) as they can enrol on to any activity that is on offer across London through the website. And we’ve kept our prices the same as last year!

So why be bored this summer when you can get involved in a massive range of sports, arts, performance, media, and college-based fun. I look forward to seeing you on a FIESTA programme soon!

Join the funThe following pages contain information about the activities on offer this year. To book your place, note the course code and week shown on the course page, and visit the website at young.hillingdon.gov.uk/fiesta.

Each course has an age range given as a School Year (SY). This is the school year that the young person would enter in September 2010. The course price is also given, and this can be paid by cheque, credit or debit card. Cheques are made payable to ‘London Borough of Hillingdon’. Payments using cash can be made at the Connexions One Stop Shop.

Accredited coursesAll FIESTA courses enable participants to gain a recorded certificate that details what they learned or gained from the course. An accredited course means that participants have the opportunity to gain a certificate that is awarded by an ‘accrediting body’ and is locally or nationally recognised by most employers and educational institutions.

We’ve placed this indicator to show which courses are accredited.

Anti-bullying policyThe Youth and Connexions Service aims to provide a safe and secure environment for all young people and staff, in which all are free from harassment, intimidation, bullying, and illegal practices.

Our staff will challenge attitudes, values and behaviours that prevent service users from experiencing a safe and secure environment, and reserve the right to ask young people to leave the premises if they refuse to manage their conduct appropriately.
