~ Next Weekend ~ Missionary Cooperation Appeal
Next weekend is our annual diocesan Missionary Coopera-tion Appeal. These collections are conducted in dioceses across the United States and are a way to centralize the ef-forts of missionary organizations around the world who wish to appeal to Catholics in the U.S.
Fr. Francis Nusi from the Mission Diocese of Kurnool, India, will be with us next weekend. He’s presently assist-ing as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary's in Crivitz, St. Augustine in Wausaukee, and St. Agnes in Amberg.
The Diocese of Kurnool, India, offers many charitable ser-vices to the poor. This appeal will support poor children's education who are orphans and semi-orphans. It costs be-tween $500-$700 a year to educate a child.
An envelope is enclosed for your convenience.
Dear Friends,
Our English language is
constantly evolving. That is
evident in new words being
added to the dictionary each
year as they become common
in written or spoken language. Last year, 1100 words
were included. This year, we’ll see words like “social
distancing” and “self-isolation” added. While
additions are an annual occurrence, it is rare to have a
word actually deleted. When a word is no longer seen
in print or heard in public realms, it remains, but part
of its definition includes designations like “obsolete”
or “archaic” or “old-fashioned.” While I’m not overly
concerned with the falling away of such words as
“snollygoster” or “jargole,” I do worry about the word
“ponder” falling by the way.
With the increased pace of communication technology,
we are often reeled into the quick response, the fast
answer, or the initial emotion. Some situations are
presented as needing an answer now. We can google
information immediately before trying to figure it out
ourselves or with others. We can respond with a quick
emoji in place of reflecting on our emotions or sending
a more personal message. While there is much good in
all of this, it has lessened the use of pondering, of
sitting back and taking some quiet time to reflect.
Scripture tells us Mary pondered. She let the words of
Jesus settle on her heart. She allowed the power of an
encounter to rest awhile so as to gain its full meaning
or significance. It was part of her “yes” to God – her
willingness to have all it entailed truly sink in and
saturate her life.
Jesus also invited people to ponder. He did so by
often speaking in parables. It was another way to help
his listeners (and us) apply his teachings to their lives.
The parable of the sower challenged all to discern
which description of bearing fruit best described their
life as a disciple. Jesus also switched to parables to
challenge those who rejected him and his teachings.
They were looking for easy answers or convenient
ways to disagree with him. They were unwilling to
ponder the meaning of his teachings and had grown
lackadaisical about their commitment to God’s
covenant.
So much comes at us each day. Days are filled with
joy, frustration, sorrow, enthusiasm, concern…the list
goes on. It can overwhelm us. It can tempt us to only
focus inward. It can keep us from seeing God’s
presence. Perhaps more than ever, these days invite us
to return to pondering. Like Mary, we need to allow
our yes to God to saturate our days. Like the early
listeners, we are reminded not to look for easy answers
to the Gospel’s challenge. Instead, we are to reflect on
our task of sowing the seeds of God’s love and
allowing God’s word to change our lives a hundred or
sixty or thirtyfold. And this, my friends will require
some pondering.
Blessings, Sr. Marla Clercx, Pastoral Leader

~ A message from our new Director of Liturgical Music ~
Our parish has always been known as a great “singing parish,” because we fully participate in all parts of the mass. However, in light of the current pandemic, we are asking you to view the cantor as the representative voice of the parish. We ask that you refrain from sing-ing, and instead, use this time for prayerful reflection.
▪ Keep in mind that no one is required to attend Mass or receive Communion at this time.
▪ Anyone who has a compromised immune system is encouraged to stay home.
▪ In Christian Charity, anyone feeling ill or showing signs of illness such as fever, cough, flu-like symptoms (even if not COVID related) or if you’ve been recently exposed to someone who is ill or suspected of having COVID-19 or who has COVID-19 should remain at home to prevent illness.
▪ All need to wear face masks and adhere to physical-distancing guidelines. Please bring your own face mask. Temperatures will be taken, and ushers will escort you to your seat. Most likely, you will not be able to sit where you usually sit for Mass.
The deadline to register for Mass is the
Friday by 12pm of the upcoming weekend Mass. Two ways to register follow.
How to Register to Attend Mass

Not Racist? That’s Not Enough Andrew Crane, Dignity of Life Committee
You’re not racist.
I always thought that was enough. Oh, I
knew that I had my biases and prejudices,
like everyone. But because I was con-
scious of them and did not treat others
unfairly because of them, I wasn’t racist.
I was certain that racism was not endorsed by the Bible.
Sure enough, in James 2:8-9, we read, “However, if you
fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, ‘You shall
love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing well. But if
you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by
the law as transgressors.”
I was also pretty sure that church leaders must have
condemned racism. In 2020’s “Open Wide Our Hearts,”
the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops pro-
claimed, “Racism is evil because it attacks the inherent
dignity of the human person, created in the image and like-
ness of God.”
So, I thought I knew what racism was, that it was
inconsistent with my faith, and that I wasn’t part of the
problem.
But that’s no longer enough. I have to take the next step;
I have to be an anti-racist. All Catholics have to be
anti-racists. Each of us must be part of the solution.
If we are to end the scourge of racism in our land, we must
now stand up to all words, actions, traditions, and policies
that prevent people from realizing their full potential,
enjoying life to its fullest, and fulfilling the “more perfect
union” the Constitution calls for.
It is time to take a side, and as Catholics that must be the
side of anti-racism.
Elie Wiesel knew something about racism. Millions of his
Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis because of their
ethnic backgrounds. Wiesel himself was a survivor of the
Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.
“We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never
the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the
tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human
lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy,
national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant.
Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their
race, religion, or political views, that place must – at that
moment – become the center of the universe” Elie Wiesel,
1986 Nobel Prize acceptance speech.
We can become the center of the universe when it comes
to combatting racism. The alternative is to do nothing, to
say nothing, and allow the center of the universe to remain
as it was. As a black hole. For more information, videos, and a Prayer to Overcome Racism, go online to www.usccb.org, the Issues and Actions tab, Racism drop-down box.
Lord, you are kind and forgiving, most loving to all who call on you. Lord, hear my prayer; listen to my
cry for help. All the nations you have made shall come to bow before you, Lord, and give honor to your name. For you are great and do wondrous deeds;
and you alone are God.
