- OOPC-GODAE (3-day) meeting on OSSE/OSE, 5-7 November 2007 – IOC/Paris ▪ High interest ▪ 20 participants representing 14 institutions (from 5 countries) ▪ Presentations and report are available on the GODAE website ▪ A working Group has been set up to run an OSE intercomparison exercise ▪ White paper ▪ A second meeting anticipated

CSSWG Special Journal Issue - Ocean Dynamics accepted the publication - Papers of the CSS Working Groups have been submitted (January 2008) - Guest editors: P De Mey, R Proctor (POL), G Halliwell (RSMAS) and B Powell (UCSC) - Review process in progress - Publication is scheduled for September 2008

- Plan to have a real-time briefing of the current conditions in the Australian region (in plenary – sometimes during the day 1, 2 or 3?) - Further display of demonstration (real-time might not be possible) from the other systems Idea: a constantly running programme in the booth & poster area, next to the entrance

- An abstract volume & proceedings are planned to be printed and distributed at the event including the detailed programme for the symposium - Proceeding to include the full papers (oral submissions) to give credit to those which might not get published/combined in the special issue - proceedings to get published as hardcopy & on CD-ROM - people need to give this information when registering online

• 1. Action: MB to contact ECMWF (e.g. Peter Janssen) to request information on

any investigations of impact of SSTs and surface waves on NWP

forecasts

• 2. Action: EH and AS to scope the need and options for a review of GHRSST

• 3. Action: KWB to collate the descriptions of systems using the Mersea template and to make them available on the web (replaces action 27 of IGST XI).

• 4. Action: JC and SH to liaise on requirements for further work to make better

use of the USGODAE server (e.g. analyse the web-site stats (replaces action 4 of IGST 11) • 26. Action: JC and SH to investigate possibility to get funding for the US

GODAE server• 27. Action: (ALL, GB, KWB) Any national GODAE activity that makes use of

the US GODAE server needs to report to GB by end September 2007 what impact the decommissioning of the server would have. GB to

drafted/sent from IGST.

• 5. Action: KWB, ED, AF, JC, EC to provide links to information on input data sets for long-period analysis for GODAE web-site. Data sets from Mersea (ED), Ensembles (JS), GSOP(AF or TL), HYCOM (EC and JC)

6. Action: AF and EH to produce a list of meetings at which the IGST should be represented to be circulated to IGST by middle of Sept 2007.

• 7. Action: FH to liaise with Brian King, NOCS & Rick Lumpkin, NOAA over GSOP Meeting at Scripps in Dec 2007 on velocity data for re-analyses (replaces action 9 of IGST XI). If and when it is completed, FH & GB should forward their analysis of surface current data sets to the convenors (names as above) of the GSOP meeting.

• 8. Action: KWB, FD, FB to start planning and designing the GODAE brochure. The

aim is to have a brochure ready for Oceanology International in March 2008.

Action: CC Finalise the scientific steering committee, clarify the budget with CNES and liaise with funding agencies (e.g. Patrons) by end of September 2007 (the national FYs and associated budget time-line are the driver of this time-scale). • 10. Action (contact PYLT): OSTM/Symposium www site by October /November 2007

• 11. Action: KWB circulate the suggested multi-authors from the list of themes and papers for the Final Symposium to the IGST and Patrons for further input by end of September

• 12. Action: PLYT, EH and AF on revise the OSE/OSSE workshop objectives and prepare a call for contributions and agenda.

• 13. Action: AF to immediately invite the co-chairs of PICO (Panel for integrated coastal observations) to the CSSWG meeting at POL and to send them version 2 of the white paper as soon as it is ready.

• 14. Action: EH, AS and JS to consider how to provide constructive feedback to GODAE-IMBER workshop group by the end of Sept 2007.

• 15. Action: PYLT to contact Patrick Monfray to check on his availability for the IGST and encourage Nicolas Gruber and him to arrange a follow-on GODAE-IMBER meeting.

• 16. Action: FH to draft by the end of August 2007 a one-page proposal for a 3-month/6-month global intercomparison exercise (including

Atlantic/MERSEA and North Pacific partners) in early 2008 and circulate it to MK, EC and JC, GB and Peter Hacker. Done All to respond by the end of Sept 2007!

• Agreement: To postpone the special journal issue and to aim for papers to be submitted for publication shortly after the Final Symposium.

• 17. Action: (Who?) to contact the Oceanography journal editor asap.

• 18. Action: PYLT to update Mersea coordinator (Yves Desaubies) on special journal issue (Done).

• 22. Action: PYLT, MB, SH, SW, FD, MK, JZ to feedback to GB information on how many people/students could be funded by national groups by mid

September!

• 23. Action: Co-chairs to contact patrons regarding funding for summer school by end of August – has started!

• 24. Action: PYLT and MB to discuss further the options for the continuation of the IGST with NS and SW.

• Agreement: The future of GODAE should be the subject of a multi-author white paper to be presented at the Final Symposium.

• 25. Action: PYLT and MB to feedback views of IGST on new JCOMM ET and discuss options for continuation of IGST and terms of reference for both new groups with Craig Donlon, Peter Dexter and Jean-Louis Fellous.

• 28. Action: KWB, FB (Addition to old action 27 and new action 2). To investigate work involved in setting up and maintaining a database to underpin the catalogue of systems on GODAE website.

• 29. Action: KWB, FB to raise the visibility of GODAE and its national groups, the GODAE website, register it with the most suitable on-line ocean catalogue within the next year (Identify catalogue and register within the next year).

30. Action: (FB, All, KWB) FB to finalise the template for the data (and product?) server report within the national report. All groups with data (and product)servers to use the template in the national report for IGST XIII. KWB to make information available on the public part of the GODAE website when available.

• 31. Action: (FB, All national groups) FB to summarise her proposals for KPIs etc. (key performance parameters) and each national group to report to FB on which issues they expect to be able to move forward. FB to collate returns and propose a co-ordination plan.

• 32. Action: JC to review the report on the error covariances and data assimilation break-out session from the Beijing Symposium and suggest a list of issues/actions the IGST should address.

• 33. Action: All to send contributions to a general list of references (from 1997onwards) to be compiled on the GODAE website.
