So what’s everyone

thinking?

More accountability

when shared

BTW, I used “Awesome Screenshot” to snag this

picture of my Google spreadsheet

What is Pi?

A Collaborative

Lesson Using a

Spreadsheet to share

real-time results of a

hands-on activity

Page 12: Final Project EDU630

Students measure the

circumference of their

item and record it

here. Students measure the

diameter of their object

and record it here

This is a calculated

column whose

value should be

close to Pi

I expect these

observation to

change as more

data becomes

available

Google Applications Used

● Google Drive

○ Presentation

○ Spreadsheet

● Awesome Screenshot (extension)

● Google Sites

Page 14: Final Project EDU630

Pitfalls● SlideShare didn’t like my Google Presentation

○ had to convert to PowerPoint first

● Having anonymous users gives you limited control

○ I didn’t require a login to save time

○ A few sixth graders typed inappropriate comments

● Google sites is somewhat rigid, but is easy to use, most of the

time.

Standards and Math Practices6.G.1.MA.1.a. Use the relationships among radius, diameter, and center of a circle to find its

circumference and area.

6.G.1.MA.1.b. Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the measurements of

circles.

6.EE.2 Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.

6.NS.7 Understand ordering and absolute value of rational numbers.

7.NS.2.d Convert a rational number to a decimal using long division; know that the decimal

form of a rational number terminates in 0s or eventually repeats.

MP.4 Model with mathematics

MP.5 Use appropriate tools strategically

Guiding Principle 3: Technology

Technology is an essential tool that should be used strategically in mathematics education.

Guiding Principle 5: Literacy Across the Content Areas

An effective mathematics program builds upon and develops students’ literacy skills and

knowledge.
