About the IntegrationHikvision is a world-leading solution and product provider of CCTV. The company’s product portfolio includes a full range of cameras, CCTV recorders (NVR’s and DVR’s), DVR and NVR storage and monitors.

The Hikvision integration into Janus C4 allows users within Janus C4 to view live and historical footage, take snapshots, download footage, create ‘Automatic Actions’ and represent the cameras on a map for ease of use.

FunctionalityThe Hikvision Interface module includes the following functionality from within the Janus C4 Interface.

� Viewing of camera images in real time. � Viewing and downloading of historical camera images.

� Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) commands (including presets) on Hikvision connected cameras (that support PTZ).

� Videowall for viewing CCTV streams. � Controlling the NVR’s inputs and outputs. � Taking snapshots of live and recorded images. � The ability to link cameras to doors and view recorded footage based on the doors events.

Prerequisites � You have the admin account password of the Hikvision NVR.

� You have given the Hikvision NVR a static IP address which, ▪ Is in the same range as the Janus C4 server. ▪ Is not used by any other device.

� You have a fully operational CCTV system.

Installer and Support FilesAll of the required files for the integration can be found on the portal www.gtl.biz/jc4doc

Select Janus C4 Installer and Support Files > Janus C4 Integration Files (Link to Sharefile)

Click the option for Hikvision.

Download the files.

1. Ensure you have the admin account password.2. Give the Hikvision NVR a static IP address, which is

a. In the same range as the Janus C4 Server, andb. Is not used by any other device.

3. Plug the camera(s) into the NVR (or network) and ensure you can see the picture for each camera.4. Make a note of each camera ‘Channel No./Camera No.’ (D1, D2, D3 etc.).

This may be found via the Hikvision NVR and selecting Main Menu > Camera. Example below (using the NVR’s web view).

1. License the Janus C4 system, which must include license(s) for the Hikvision integration.

Note: The license is per NVR (e.g. you have 1 x Hikvision NVR and 10 x cameras, you will need 1 x Hikvision license).

2. Install the Hikvision driver under Navigation > Drivers.

1. Under Navigation > Devices Right-click installation > Add > CCTV > HIK Vision Bus Controller.

2. The following window will open.

Enter the following information.

i. Name Enter a name i.e. Hikvision Integration.

ii. IP Address Enter the IP address of the Hikvision NVR.

iii. Password Enter the admin account password.

iv. Port Leave as default (8000).

v. Leave all other fields unchanged.

3. Right-click on the newly created Hikvision Integration bus line > Add > and select either Camera or PTZ (as appropriate).

In the new window, enter a description (e.g. Camera 1) and in the address line enter the camera ‘Channel No./Camera No.’ e.g. D1 (see: “Preparing the Hikvision NVR for Integration” on page 8, point 4).

4. Repeat Step 3 for each camera, ensuring you select the correct camera type (Camera or PTZ) and the correct address (D2, D3, etc.).

Note: The following steps are carried out within the Janus C4 server.

5. (Optional) To add inputs (from the NVR only) to the integration device tree within Janus C4.

Note: Adding an input into Janus C4 provides a visual representation of the input. If you are using inputs on the Hikvision NVR, you do not need to, or have to, add these inputs to the Janus C4 integration ‘Device Tree’.

▪ Inputs need to be setup on the Hikvision NVR before adding them to Janus C4. On the Hikvision NVR, navigate to Menu > Configuration > Alarm > Alarm Input Check the input is enabled and press the cog icon next to settings. Click the ‘linkage action’ tab and ensure ‘notify surveillance center’ is ticked (this is needed for the input state to be communicated to Janus C4). Back within Janus C4, Right-click on the newly created Hikvision Integration bus line > Add > Input

In the new window enter.

i. Description Enter a description (e.g. Input 1) .

ii. Address Enter the input number as per the inputs address on the Hikvision NVR (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.).

iii. Event Level Choose the event level (info, alarm, none or warning).

6. (Optional) To add Outputs (from the NVR only) to the integration device tree within Janus C4.

Note: Adding an output into Janus C4 gives a visual representation of the output and allows commands (on/off) to be sent to the output. If you are using outputs on the Hikvision NVR, you do not need to, or have to, add these outputs to the Janus C4 integration ‘Device Tree’, Right-click on the newly created Hikvision Integration bus line > Add > Output.

In the new window enter.

i. Description Enter a description (e.g. Output 1).

ii. Address Enter the output number as per the outputs address on the Hikvision NVR (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.)

7. Summarya. Add the Hikvision Bus Line and enter the

correct IP address and password.b. Add a Camera or PTZ camera, addressing

using the ‘Channel No./Camera No.’ of the camera.

c. Repeat Step b for each camera.d. Add any inputs and outputs as necessary.

Note: The following steps are carried out within the Janus C4 server.

Bringing the Hikvision Integration Online

1. Under Navigation > Devices Right-click Hikvision Integration > Commands > Start

2. Once ‘Start’ has been pressed, the ‘tree’ should go blue as below.

If the tree does not go blue check the Hikvision bus line options (see: “Integrating Janus C4 and Hikvision” on page 10, step 2).

Viewing Live ImagesTo view live images from a camera on the Hikvision NVR using Janus C4.

1. Select Navigation > Devices2. Select the Hikvision NVR under the installation

tree.3. Expand the tree to show all the cameras.4. Select a camera and right-click.5. Select Commands > Show.

6. The camera live stream will be displayed.

7. To view other cameras (up to a maximum of 9) repeat the above steps. This creates a ‘video wall’ as shown below.

Viewing Live Camera Feeds1. Use the ‘Change Layer’ button to alter how

the cameras are displayed on the video wall. The maximum number of cameras that can be displayed at one time is 9 (3x3 view).

2. Use the ‘Full Screen’ button to show the selected camera (selected cameras show with a red border around them) as a full image (removing all other camera images).

To go back to viewing all other images press the ‘Full Screen’ icon again.

3. Use the ‘Capture Picture’ Icon to capture a snapshot of the image being viewed.

This will prompt you to select a location to save the snapshot. The file will be saved as a .jpeg file (see: “Taking a Snapshot” on page 18).

4. Use the ‘Dropdown Box’ to select the image being viewed as Mainstream or Substream (as configured in the Hikvision NVR).

5. Use the ‘Hide/Show control’ button to show/hide the PTZ controls for a compatible PTZ camera (if the camera is not a PTZ compatible camera, or if the camera has not been added as a PTZ camera this will show but will be greyed out (see: “Integrating Janus C4 and Hikvision” on page 10, Step 3).

When the ‘Hide/Show control’ button is pressed the window will show the PTZ commands window.

Viewing and Downloading Historical ImagesNote: The retention period for stored images are configured and defined on the Hikvision NVR.

To view and download historical footage from the Hikvision NVR using Janus C4.

Viewing Historical Images1. Select Navigation > Devices2. Select the Hikvision NVR under the installation

tree.3. Expand the tree to show all the cameras.4. Select a camera and right-click.5. Select Commands > Show Recorded Video.

6. A dialog will appear requesting the date and time required to view the recorded image. Use the down arrow (highlighted in the image) to open the date and time picker.

7. Press start to retrieve the recorded CCTV images.

Note: It is possible to fast forward, rewind, alter the playrate and/or skip footage once this window is open. Use the slider bar under the image to select a new time. If you wish to view a different day, close the window, and re-follow the above steps to select a different day.

Note: Snapshots can be taken when viewing recorded footage by pressing the camera icon (indicated in the above picture).

Downloading Historical Images1. (If required) After viewing the footage (see:

“Viewing Historical Images” on page 15), click the ‘save record’ icon as shown in the image below.

2. A dialog will appear requesting the date and time range for the download. Use the arrows (highlighted on the right in the above image) to get a ‘from and to’ date and time range.

3. Press OK.4. In the new window enter a file name and select

where to store the footage. Press save.

5. The download time depends on the length of footage e.g. (in testing) 10 minutes of footage took approximately 1 minute to download.

Note: Download progress is indicated by a progress bar in the camera window.

6. After the footage has downloaded open the save location (specified in step 4 above).

Note: The footage is downloaded as an encrypted .mp4 file. It is NOT possible to view the footage without the Hikvision VSPlayer. The Hikvision VSPlayer can be obtained from.

i. A Hikvision NVR by saving the footage onto a USB Stick (this will include a copy of the Hikvision VSPlayer).

Viewing Downloaded FootageInstalling & Using the Hikvision VSPlayer

Note: The retention period for stored images are configured and defined on the Hikvision NVR.

To view downloaded historical footage, you will need the Hikvision VSPlayer application to be installed on the Janus C4 Server (and any other Client PC’s where the footage is to be viewed).

Note: Installation is the same for both the Janus C4 Server and Client PC’s.

To install and use the Hikvision VSPlayer.

1. Obtain the Hikvision VSPlayer from.i. A Hikvision NVR by saving the footage onto

a USB Stick (this will include a copy of the Hikvision VSPlayer).

ii. www.hikvision.com/en/support/tools/destop-tools/vsplayer-for-windows/

iii. www.gtl.biz/jc4doc > Integration Files > Hikvision (see: “Installer and Support Files” on page 6).

2. Save the Hikvision VSPlayer file to the Janus C4 Server (or Client PC) and double click on the VSPlayer icon to open the installer.

3. Make any relevant changes to the installation (or leave as default) and press install, this will install the VS player, the icon of which can be seen below.

4. To view downloaded Hikvision CCTV footage (see: “Viewing and Downloading Historical Images” on page 15) open the VSPlayer and select ‘Open File’.

5. Select the footage you wish to view.

6. The downloaded footage can be viewed as required.

Taking a Snapshot To take a snapshot of an image whilst viewing a live feed, or viewing recorded footage (see: “Viewing Live Images” on page 13 and “Viewing and Downloading Historical Images” on page 15).

1. Use the ‘Capture Picture’ Icon.

2. A new window will open, choose a file path and a filename and press ‘Save’.

3. The Snapshot will be saved in the location chosen as a .BMP file and can be used as required.

Arming a Camera/Camera in AlarmIt is possible to send an ‘arm’ command to a camera. However, for this to do anything (on the Hikvision NVR), you must first create an item to arm (i.e. create a motion zone on a camera), for example:

1. On the Hikvision NVR select Main Menu > Camera > Motion > Select the camera channel (e.g. D2, from the dropdown ‘Camera’ box).

2. Enable Motion Detection by selecting the ‘enable motion detection’ tick box, and drawing the alarm area (indicated by red squares).

3. Press the cog icon next to the Settings line and select the ‘Linkage Action’ menu, ensure the ‘Notify Surveillance Center’ box is ticked (if it is not ticked no motion detection alarm events will be sent to Janus C4). Press ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’.

4. Press ‘Apply’ and exit the menus (repeat the above steps for each camera required).

Note: For assistance with creating motion detection areas on Hikvision cameras please speak with Hikvision technical support.

To Arm the Camera1. Within Janus C4, right-click on the required

camera and select Commands > Arm.

2. The camera icon will change colour from blue to green, indicating the camera is now armed (an event for the camera is also stored).

Camera in Alarm1. Arming the camera will arm the cameras motion

detection zone as configured on the Hikvision NVR. If motion is detected within the configured zone (when the camera is armed), the camera icon will flash between blue and red to indicate an alarm (see: “Arming a Camera/Camera in Alarm” on page 19).

2. The camera icon will continue to flash blue and red to indicate an alarm until the camera is either disarmed or reset (see: “Disarming a Camera” on page 22 and “Resetting a Camera” on page 23).

3. An event is stored for the camera that went into alarm.

Changing the Motion Detection Event Type If an audible alarm notification is required in Janus C4 (when an armed camera detects motion), change the Janus C4 event type ‘motion detection’ from ‘info’ to ‘alarm’.

Within Janus C4.

1. Navigate to Navigation > Events

2. Locate the event ‘Motion Detection’ and change the type from info to alarm.

3. Navigate to Navigation > Extensions

4. Ensure both ‘Alarms Processing’ and ‘Active Alarm Notification’ are ticked.

5. Now when an armed camera detects motion an audible alert within Janus C4 will be generated.

Disarming a Camera Disarming a camera will deactivate the cameras motion detection zone. Therefore, if motion is detected within the zone configured on the camera, the cameras icon will not activate or indicate that motion has been detected.

It is possible (when the camera is in alarm) to either.

� Send the reset command (which will reset the alarm but keep the camera armed (see: “Resetting a Camera” on page 23)), or

� Send the disarm command to disarm the camera .

1. Within Janus C4, select the camera you wish to disarm (an armed camera will show as green). Right-click on the required camera and select the option Commands and Disarm.

2. The camera icon will change colour from green to blue, indicating the camera is now disarmed (an event for the camera will also be stored).

Resetting a CameraTo reset a camera that has been armed and is in alarm (see: “Arming a Camera/Camera in Alarm” on page 19) e.g. the reset command is sent to camera 2, which is currently in alarm, stopping the cameras device icon from flashing blue and red (but leaving the camera in an armed state).

1. A camera is/was in alarm and is flashing between blue and red to indicate an alarm.

2. Right-click the camera and select Commands > Reset to stop the camera flashing blue and red.

3. The camera icon will now show green (meaning it is still armed) and an event will be stored against the camera.

Linking Cameras to a DoorLinks may be created between cameras and doors allowing cameras to display recorded footage for the events related to the door e.g. the door the camera is linked to is forced open.

Examples of door events.

� Door Forced � Door Wedged � Access Granted � Access Denied

� Software commands to the door (i.e. open, open timed etc.)

� Exit button pushed � Break glass operated

To link a camera to a door1. (Within Janus C4) Navigate to Navigation >

Devices

2. Select the door to link with a camera(s) and select the ‘Cameras’ tab. The available cameras integrated into Janus C4 are displayed.

3. Select the camera(s) to link to the door by ticking the box next to each camera.

Repeat the above steps for each door you wish to have cameras tied to.

4. To view camera footage (related to an event), select the door the camera(s) is linked to and select the events tab. Examples of events can be seen in the image below.

5. Select the event to view the recorded footage e.g. door forced open event: 28/04/2020 15:35:48: Door ‘Door 201’ forced open. Right-click on the event and select ‘Show recorded video’.

Note: If multiple cameras were tied to the same door, a command for each camera would appear. Select the correct/desired camera.

6. The footage will begin playing 10 seconds before the event and will continue playing until the window is closed (the footage can be downloaded or a snapshot taken if needed).

Using the Hikvision Integration on MapsThe Hikvision objects created by the integration may be used and visualised on maps within the Janus C4 monitor menu.

To add a Hikvision Camera to a map.

1. (Within Janus C4) Navigate to Navigation > Designer

2. Select the Map you wish to add the Camera to (from the tree on the right of the screen).

3. From the tabs on the right, select Devices and use the tree structure to find the cameras.

4. Select the Camera icon and drag this to the map. This will create the object on the map.

5. Repeat Step 4 for each camera. ▪ It is possible to rotate the shape and make it

smaller or larger. ▪ It is not possible to change the icon or the

colour of the icon. 6. Select Navigation > Monitor to view the map.

7. Commands can be issued to the cameras on the map by right-clicking on the Camera and selecting the required command (see: “Device Icon Commands” on page 32).

Creating Software Buttons on MapsA software button is a button that can be created on a map that, when executed/selected, allows commands to be sent to an integrated device, allowing you to define logical relationships between security devices in the system and processes.

Examples of software buttons.

� Open certain doors (permanently or timed) when the software button is pressed. � Lockdown certain doors when the software button is pressed. � Disarm an Intruder Alarm area when the software button is pressed. � Arm an Intruder Alarm area when the software button is pressed. � Reset an Intruder Alarm when the software button is pressed. � Show cameras (up to a maximum of 9) automatically on the user’s PC when the software button is pressed.

� Arm cameras when the software button is pressed. � Disarm cameras when the software button is pressed.

To add a Software Button to a map.

1. (Within Janus C4) Navigate to Navigation > Designer

2. Select the Map you wish to add the software button to (from the tree on the right of the screen).

3. From the tabs on the right, select Other.

4. Select the Button icon and drag this to the map. This will create the object on the map.

5. The Button can be customised. With the button selected on the map use the buttons settings window (bottom right of the screen).

The following can be customised. ▪ Size and position ▪ Background Colour ▪ Font ▪ Text Size ▪ Text Description ▪ Text Colour

6. Once the button has been customised it is possible to assign commands to the button to define what happens when the button is pressed. To assign commands to the button and with the button selected on the map, use the buttons settings window (bottom right of the screen) and select Commands by pressing ‘...’

7. A new window will open.

8. Click on add new command, which will open a new window, and select the command required for when the software button is operated (e.g. Show).

9. Click ‘Click to add Device Reference’ to add a device the command will operate/refer to (e.g. camera 1).

10. To add additional commands to the same software button select ‘Add New Command’ and repeat steps 8 and 9 above. When finished press OK to close the window.

11. To add further buttons to the map repeat the above steps e.g. in this example two further buttons were created a) one to send the arm command to the cameras and b) one to send the disarm command to the cameras.

12. Test the software buttons by navigating to Navigation > Monitor and pressing the relevant software button.

Using the Hikvision Interface

Creating Automatic ActionsAutomatic Actions can be created which are executed based on specific times or the occurrence of events within the Janus C4 system. This allows you to define logical relationships between security devices in the system and automate processes.

Examples of automatic actions.

� Open all doors if there is a fire alarm. � Lockdown all doors if a duress button is pressed. � Disarm an Intruder Alarm area at a certain time, or when the first user entering a region swipes their card at the area’s ingress/entry point (without the user having to manually disarm the area).

� Arm an Intruder Alarm area at a certain time, or when the last user exiting a region swipes their card at the area egress/exit point (without the user having to manually arm the area).

� Notify a person by SMS or email when there is an alarm (i.e. door forced or wedged, Intruder Alarm going into alarm).

� Show cameras automatically on the user’s PC if a door is forced and/or wedged, or if an Intruder Alarm goes into alarm.

An automatic action consists of two main parts:

1. A set of conditions based on which the automatic action is subsequently performed. These conditions can be event-based (i.e. when a Janus C4 event occurs) or time-based (i.e. at a specific time). Event-based conditions can be restricted by additional conditions on the particular security devices within the system or users associated with the events e.g. the condition for an alarm event can be restricted to an input. If there are multiple events defined, the automatic action will be triggered if any of the events occur. If there are restrictions defined, such as devices that events may occur on, one of the events must occur on one of the defined restrictions e.g. if you define three event conditions and two devices, the automatic action will be executed if at least one of the three events occurs, and it occurs on at least one of the two devices.

2. A set of actions are performed when the conditions are met. If any of the conditions are met, all the actions are performed. Actions can be performed on a variety of entities. ▪ Devices

Automatic device remote control is possible. ▪ Counters

A counter value can be increased or decreased based on the occurrence of certain events and its threshold values can be evaluated.

▪ Timers An event in the system can start a timer and the system can notify if another specified event does not occur before the specified time elapses.

▪ Sending an Email or SMS A person can be notified of an event. Automatic actions are defined on the Automatic Actions panel.

Hikvision Bus Controller

StartAfter creating the integration device tree, the system can show integrated device statuses in real time. To establish communication between the integration and the Janus C4 system, it is necessary to start communication with the device.

Right-click the device’s bus controller to display its context menu and select the Commands > Start menu item.

After communication has been initialised, you will notice the changing colour statuses of the individual nodes in the device tree, which indicate the real statuses of the connected devices (see: “Device Status Colours” on page 31).If a spanner icon is displayed next to any of the devices within the integrations device tree, this indicates that changes have been made to the integration and the communication between the integration and Janus C4 needs to be restarted using the Start command.

StopYou can stop communication with the integration by right-clicking on the device’s bus controller to display its context menu and selecting the Commands > Stop command.

Output

OnThis command turns on the output.

OffThis command turns off the output.

Camera Icons

ShowShows the camera (live) the command was sent to i.e. the Show command is sent to Camera 1 so Camera 1 will show on the Janus C4 client machine the command was sent from (see: “Viewing Live Images” on page 13).

Show Recorded VideoShows the cameras recorded footage (from the date and time selected) the command was sent to i.e. the Show Recorded Video command is sent to Camera 1 so Camera 1 will show the cameras recorded footage (from the date and time selected) on the Janus C4 client machine the command was sent from (see: “Viewing and Downloading Historical Images” on page 15).

ArmIt is possible to send an ‘arm’ command to a camera. However, first (on the Hikvision NVR), you must create an item to arm i.e. create a motion zone on a camera.

Arming the camera will activate the cameras motion detection zone. If motion is detected (within the zone configured on the camera) the cameras icon will flash blue and red (no audible alarm is generated).

It is possible (when the camera is in alarm) to either send the reset command (which will reset the alarm but keep the camera armed) or, send the disarm command to disarm the camera (see: “Arming a Camera/Camera in Alarm” on page 19).

DisarmThis command disarms the camera the command is sent to that is armed. Disarming the camera will deactivate the cameras motion detection zone. Therefore, if motion is detected (within the zone configured on the camera) the cameras icon will not activate or indicate that motion has been detected.

It is possible (when the camera is in alarm) to either send the reset command (which will reset the alarm but keep the camera armed) or, send the disarm command to disarm the camera (see: “Disarming a Camera” on page 22).

ResetThis command resets a camera that has been armed and is in alarm (e.g. the reset command is sent to camera 2, which is currently in alarm). The reset command will acknowledge the alarm, stopping the cameras device icon from flashing blue and red, leaving the camera in an armed state (see: “Resetting a Camera” on page 23).

Janus C4 Diagnostic FilesAll server and client events in Janus C4 are logged to a diagnostic file. The files provide details on the exact state of the interface and any communication made between the Janus C4 server and the Hikvision unit.

To view and download a copy of the diagnostics file.

1. Select Navigation > Diagnostic

2. Turn on diagnostics by clicking the red symbol to activate (turns to a green tick).

3. Once a suitable time period has elapsed (minutes/hours or days) press the disk icon.

4. This will prompt you to save the files (ZIP format)to the server. Choose a suitable location and save.

5. From the chosen file location, select the ZIP file downloaded and select the Server directory/folder.

6. The files ‘Hikvision.Full’ and ‘VersionInfo.Hikvision’ will show details about the integration.

After a period of up to 1 minute the tree will turn from orange to blue with the exception of the camera that is offline which will show as black indicating the camera is offline.

� NO event is stored on the camera to inform the user the camera has gone offline – this does not affect the NVR.

Arming the CameraArming a CameraIt is possible to send an ‘arm’ command to a camera. However, firstly (on the Hikvision NVR) you must create an item to arm i.e. create a motion zone on a camera. It is possible (when the camera is in alarm) to either send the reset command (which will reset the alarm but keep the camera armed) or, send the disarm command to disarm the camera.

� It is NOT possible to select the event and show recorded footage (irrespective if motion detected is set to info or alarm). To view recorded footage you need to make a note of the time and select camera > show recorded footage > select the date and time.

� An event is generated when the camera is armed e.g. 28/04/2020 15:21:13: ‘Camera 2’ was armed by ‘Support’.

� An event is generated when the camera is reset e.g. 28/04/2020 15:19:36: ‘Support’ sent command ‘Reset’ to ‘Camera 2’.

Integrating with the Access ControlLinking a Camera to a DoorAny number of cameras can be linked to any number of doors e.g. you could link camera 2 to the office door and camera 4 to the emergency exit.

To link the camera (Navigation > Devices), select the door you wish to link with a camera and open the Cameras tab and tick all cameras to be linked to the door.

With a camera linked to a door it is possible to view historical footage for the camera (linked to the doors event), for.

▪ Access Granted ▪ Access Denied ▪ Door Forced ▪ Break Glass Activated

For example: Access is denied to a user. Select either the user or the door and select the events tab, find the event, right-click it and choose ‘Show Recorded Video on ‘<camera name>’’.

� When showing the recorded footage (from an event) the footage will start 10 seconds before the event occurred and will continue playing until you cancel the window – it is also possible to take a snapshot and download the footage.

� If a camera is linked to a door that door generates an alarm (i.e. door forced), in the alarm window popup it is possible to select the camera icon that appears and either show live footage or recorded footage (recorded footage begins 10 seconds before the event time).

� It is possible to view closed alarms by selecting Navigation > Alarms, this lists all of the alarms generated on the system. It is possible to view any alarms that have a camera linked to them (i.e. a door forced), on the right-hand side of the alarm line. There is a ‘note’ column with a play symbol > press this and select the correct camera from the drop down (if applicable) to view the recorded footage.

� An Event is stored if someone requests to view historic footage e.g. 29/04/2020 15:44:58: ‘Support’ requested record playback for ‘Camera 1’ for time ‘29/04/2020 15:38:19’.
