The process of hemispheric integration requires
the promotion of the development of a regional
agenda for technology innovation founded on
alliances among the countries of the Americas.
Purposes of FORAGRO:
� To shift agriculture towards an agribusiness system.
� To balance agricultural development with the conservation of
natural resources and environmental development.
� To promote the combined use of new and conventional
technologies.
� To promote increased production and productivity and improved
quality.
� To contribute to the alleviation of poverty by generating
production alternatives based on viable and compatible
technologies.
Declaration of Brasilia 2002
• Dynamical management for the identification and periodical update of research priorities.
• To ensure that agricultural technology innovation is placed high in the agendas of policy makers in the countries.
• To optimize and consolidate agricultural technology systems in the Americas.
• To draw attention to the need for higher investment in science and technology.
• From the perspective of small scale farmers, to promote technological development and the modernization of education, respecting traditional practices.
• To ensure that science and technology figure more prominently on the economic integration agenda, strengthening cooperation between research and development institutions and programs.

TRANSFORMING INTENTIONS AND PRIORITY TOPICSTO ACTIONS REQUIRES:
• Consolidation of FORAGRO: Intensify regional and global insertion, with the Executive Committee and the Technical Secretariat playing a more active role.
• Strengthen regional mechanisms - PROCIs: Recognize their importance and adapt them to the new demands, to enhance regional cooperation.
• Promote and strengthen funding mechanisms: the case of FONTAGRO for regional research.
• Develop strategic alliances with regional and international centers:CATIE, CARDI, CGIAR centers, among others.
• Political Lobbying: present at the IABA and other hemispheric fora, in compliance with the Quebec Summit, the declaration of FORAGRO.
• Actions: Develop a new Medium Term Plan; mobilize FORAGRO stakeholders and external resources to carry out Biannual Plans.
