Monster of the Month
Jonathan helps out at one of his favorite events, the Color Run
The Monster of the Month for the month of August is Jonathan Hanock! Jonathan is a senior and has attended Key Club for a year. His favorite events so far have been the Color Run, Electric Run, and the Cas-tello Fall Festival. Jonathan often shows his dedication by PC-ing for events. In his spare time, he enjoys posting pictures of food on Instagram and studying. Outside of Key Club he is also involved in Franklin high school’s vocal ensemble. Jonathan is a very passionate member who “joined Key Club to help the community and to feel involved in something." Congratulations Jonathan!
Hey there Monsters! School has officially started and we will soon be welcoming the new freshmen into our club! A reminder that Club Rush is this month on the 29th and be sure to invite your friends to sign up! It’s only been a few days that school has started and I’m already up to my elbows in homework and extracurricular activities. How about you guys? Do you guys miss the summer days as much as I do? I hope to see you monsters at the club meetings soon!
In service and in friendship, Sharon Hsu Franklin Key Club Bulletin Editor

PAST EVENTS
Greater Sacramento Kiwanis' Speakeasy MICHAEL MA Treasurer In a shady, unmarked brick building on a convoluted street of downtown Sacramento, we arrived as the lights began to dim. Upon entry, we were whispered the password needed to receive access into an extravagant party flowing with spirits (prohibited by the 18th Amendment for all y’all APUSH folks). After a short elevator ride to the second floor, we were whisked into the Roaring Twenties – a parlor complete with drunk strawmen, hanging underwear, Wanted posters, and a jail cell. Yes, our guests could be sent to jail and bailed out by the gracious donation of a companion. Case in point: money does buy happiness. Throughout the night, we worked as lovely elevator escorts, occasionally transporting our guests to the dreaded Third Floor. What dreadful monstrosity lurked behind Room III, you might ask? An austere room with a Confession table, solely lit by a hundred can-dles that cast ghastly shadows throughout the hallway. Perhaps our emotionally scarred guests did obediently say their prayers before being taken back down to where the real party was at. Fellow Key Clubbers also served as silent auction interpreters, enlightening our guests about the various luxurious prizes they could win. Perhaps the most exciting part of our 1920s experience was socializing with the Kiwanians – decked out in their flapper costumes, peacock feathers, and oversized fur scarves, we chatted about Key Club activities, summer, and the beauty of life in general. As the glasses emptied and the night came to a close, we said our goodbyes and dutifully escorted our guests, who were desperately in need of some Confession up on Floor 3. As we turned our backs to the silent brick building, towering in the twilight, we certainly could not speak easy anymore. And disclaimer, we did NOT sneak a glass of vodka. Not even a shot of tequila. These Orange Monsters need some sleep!

The Color Run ANDREW FONG Member The Color Run was a terrific experience for me. While I was there, I was cheering the runners on and congratulating them on finishing their hard race. I was also directing the finishing runners to the main stage while they were crossing the finish line. Many of them were having a blast at the end by throwing color packs at the finish line making it much more fun for everyone around. The more people that came along, the more and more of a party it became. Of course some other volunteers and I were cheering them on and joined them as they threw their packets of colored starchy goodness into the air. Although it did get very messy, I cannot deny that it was worth every bit of corn starch on me. Overall it was a very jolly day and I hope I can go next year again.
Ice Cream Safari
Rachel Yee Member On a warm Saturday evening, I attended the Ice Cream Safari at the Sacramento Zoo. As I walked through the gates for the first time in a few years, I reminisced on all the memories I made when I came with my family. During my childhood, I remembered always asking my parents to buy me ice cream for des-sert. Since this event showed me a glimpse of my childhood, I knew I had to attend! While I scooped double fudge chocolate ice cream for families, I could see children’s faces light up, full of happiness and joy. They were so excited to enjoy a cool treat after being in the sun all day. I can’t wait for this event to hap-pen next year!
