If patriotism be love of country, then we—the people of New South Wales—are inspired

by an intense loyalty. We delight to tell of “the lavish splendour of the skies,’ and picture

the beauties of our mountains, plains and waters. We do it, too, with an emphatic air of

personal ownership, for we speak of these always as “ ours.”

But Nature claims that her profusion of Gifts shall find response in their application and

use by the human mind and hand. Of this our artists in song and melody and colour may tell

in part. How it has entered into the common concerns of daily life, as in the building and

adornment of our Dwellings, in the planting of trees and the cultivation of Flowers, we tell and

picture in

“Our Beautiful Blomes.”’

And in pride of country, in what it has done for us, and in what it has helped us to do, we

provide our fellow subjects of Greater Britain with the opportunity of seeing something of the

eonditions under which we live, and of the Ideals of House and Home whieh inspire us in New

South Wales.

The Contributors tu this Collection of Illustrations are Contributors also to the raising and

enlarging of the scope of Domestic Art. Here are pictured both House and Home, for if the

House is created by the mind and craft of man, the Home is born of the Heart of woman, and

the Homes of a people are the true shrines of their National life, and the foundation of their

National greatness.
