Editorial policy

Journal of Animal Ecology publishes original research papers on any aspect of animal ecology. Reviews that shed light on sibjects central to animal ecology, including theoretical analyses of specific topics may also be accepted. The Journal publishes standard papers, essay reviews and comments.

Standard papers: report original research. Reviews: on topical subjects of general interest. Comments: short responses to published material.

Manuscripts should be in English. Authors must submitfour copies of the text andfigures, and retain a fifth copy. Concise, logical and unequivocal presentation, as well as scientific excellence, are essential for acceptance. Most PhD theses need to be completely rewritten before presentation. Authors are asked to read the Instructions for Contributors concern- ing preparation of the manuscript, and to study the format in a recent issue of the Journal.

Full instructions to contributors can be found in the first issue of each volume.

150 offprints of each paper will be provided free of charge, and additional copies may be ordered when proofs are returned. A scale of charges will be sent with the proofs.

The journal is covered by ASCA Current Contents, CABS Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, Geo Abstracts, GEOBASE and Science Citation Index.

The Publisher's Policy is to use acid-free permanent paper, to the draft standard ISO/DIS 9706, made from sustainable forests using chlorine-free pulp. The paper used in this journal has an ECO-CHECK 4 Star rating.

Subscription information. Journal of Animal Ecology is pub- lished four times a year and the subscription prices for 1994 are ?185 (Europe), ?203 (overseas except North America) and $303 (North America and Canada), in all cases post free. Subscribers in Canada must add 7% to the subscription price, to allow for GST. Subscribers in Europe must quote their VAT registration number or state that they are not registered. Subscribers in The Netherlands who are not VAT registered must add 6% to the subscription price, to allow for VAT.
