LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORDear Friend of Covenant House Missouri,Thank you for your generosity, loyalty and support of Covenant House Missouri. You keep our doors open and accepting to youth 16-21 years old who are homeless or disconnected. When you make a financial or in-kind gift, volunteer with the youth or serve on the board, attend an event or share a post on social media, you are demonstrating your passion and compassion for Covenant House Missouri and the youth we empower.

Covenant House Missouri has been a source of hope and direction for more than 18 years. What we have learned from nearly two decades of doing this work is that youth who are homeless and in crisis lack more than just a home and the basics that many of us take for granted. In fiscal year 2015, the Board of Directors, staff, youth, and volunteers embarked on a journey to develop our three-year strategic direction. At the core of the plan is the infusion of proven mental health practices within our evidence-informed education and career development services, our short and long-term residential programs, and our community outreach.

In the past decade, we have seen a consistent increase in the number of youth presenting with identified, undiagnosed or untreated mental health issues. To meet this growing need we have committed to becoming a Trauma Informed agency. A trauma-informed approach is a profound paradigm shift in knowledge, perspective, attitudes and skills that continues to deepen and unfold over time. We have developed three key initiatives built on this foundation of providing evidence informed programs for youth who have suffered trauma.Initiative 1: Team-Based Holistic Residential Program • Direct care positions elevated to professional, Bachelor’s Degree-level social workers who will work in teams with

Master’s Degree-level clinical care coordinators and therapists• Holistic case management and therapeutic approaches that support all areas of a young person’s transition from

homelessness to independenceInitiative 2: Evidence-Informed Education and Career Development Services • Independent school onsite at CHMO that is evidence-informed alternative to more traditional school models• Integrates learning and career development through demonstration projects and internships• Students will develop an individualized learning plan that meets their goals and engages their interestsInitiative 3: Quality Assurance and Evaluation• Evaluative component for the entire agency, with Phase 1 focusing on all of our programs and interventions• Staff leadership position dedicated to quality assurance and improvement• Board committee focused on quality assurance• Transition to a teaching social service agencyThank you for partnering with Covenant House Missouri as we work to provide the best possible care, resources and programs for the youth we serve. Together, we are making systemic change to prevent a generation of young people from becoming chronically homeless adults.

Sincerely,

WHEN YOU MAKE A FINANCIAL OR IN-KIND GIFT, VOLUNTEER WITH THE YOUTH OR SERVE ON THE BOARD, ATTEND AN EVENT OR SHARE A POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA, YOU ARE DEMONSTRATING YOUR PASSION AND COMPASSION FOR COVENANT HOUSE MISSOURI AND THE YOUTH WE EMPOWER.
