Our teaching method combines the usual studyof grammar with debates, talks, role-playingsituations, practical classes, etc. The classes, with a maximum of seven students each, areconducted entirely in Spanish from the very firstday and guarantee not only an incre a s e dcommand of the Spanish language but alsohappiness and cordiality. We believe that afriendly atmosphere and teaching with a smilehave as big a part to play in the classroom asthe exercise books the students use.To help us to attain our objectives, we employa group of young teachers who have, nonetheless many years teaching experience inour school and who use our very own teachingmethods which are constantly being revised. This is to ensure that our pupils are alwaystaught in accordance with the most recentdevelopments concerning the Spanishlanguage and the practical aspects related to it.

GADIR is a medium-sized school (of 50-60 students) in which pupils, teachers andorganisers all know each other and call each other by their first name from the verybeginning. Our main aim is to ensure that during your stay you learn how to speak, think and feel in Spanish.

The name of our school, GADIR, was given to the city of Cádiz by the Phoenicianswhen it was founded more than 3000 years ago. For this reason, the name of ourschool is closely linked to the city, in which we have been operating since 1989. Itis difficult to say in only a few lines what the city of Cádiz has to offer its visitorsbut nevertheless we ought to mention several things...

Founded by the Phoenicians more than three thousand yearsago, Cádiz is the oldest surviving city in the west. It was hometo the Carthaginians, Romans and Arabs until it was finallyconquered by the Christians in the thirteenth century. Theeighteenth century were years of splendour for the city andhave given present-day Cádiz the most well preserved citycentre in the whole of Spain, with its beautiful squares, narrowstreets, small palaces, stately buildings and an atmospherewhich invites you to relax and enjoy yourself. Traces of itshistorical past can be found throughout the city. In thisrespect, the Roman amphitheatre, the remains of themedieval city walls, the many stone towers of the city and theO r a t o ry of San Felipe Neri (where the first SpanishConstitution was drawn up in 1812), remind us that Cádiz, justlike good Andalusian wines has a style all of its own.

The people of Cádiz are proud of the 10 kms. of fine sand which lie at theirvery door-step. Beaches such as “La Victoria” and “La Caleta” form part ofthe scenery of the city and of the very lives of its people. Situated near to Seville and Málaga and serving as

a bridge between Spain and Africa, Cádiz, itwould seem, is an island surrounded by theAtlantic Ocean.

The city of Cádiz enjoys pleasantt e m p e r a t u res all-year round, withclear blue skies and an average of3200 hours of sun annually.

The "gaditanos" are known throughout Spain fortheir friendliness and sense of humour. They arealways ready to welcome visitors to the city andto invite them to take part in the many fiestaswhich take place in it. Only if you come to Cádizand live like one of the city's own will you be ableto enjoy its famous Carnivals in February, its HolyWeek in April and the Latin American TheatreFestival in October.

The province of Cádiz promotes manydifferent sporting activities, such as sailing, rock climbing and riding in the countryside oralong the beaches, or learning flamencodancing. We cater for the most demanding oftastes. If we add to all of this the magnificentclimate which the area enjoys, one soonrealises that there is much to be discovered inCádiz and its surrounding province.

Cádiz is one of the most interesting and complexprovinces in Spain. Although it is far from being aprovince of mass tourism, Cádiz has almost everyt-hing. Magnificient, deserted beaches of fine whitesand, small, picturesque White Villages in themountains, pretty towns and cities such as Jerezand El Puerto de Santa María and nature reservesin a class of their own such as the “Sierra deGrazalema” or the “Parque Natural de losAlcornocales”.

In the province of Cádiz, one canexperience authentic Andalusian folklorein the many shows featuring flamencodancing and singing, in the many feriasand of course, in the famous Cádiz citycarnivals, which every year transform thecity into one big party. At the same time, one just has to try the famous wines ofJerez and Sanlúcar to accompany one ofthe many traditional dishes of the area, their excellent fish and seafood beingparticularly noteworthy.

The flats have a lounge, a bathroom, kitchen andwashing machine and are situated in the historic citycentre or near the beaches. To book a room in one of the hotels or hostals in thecity of Cádiz, GADIR will provide information aboutvariations and prices.
