RESIDENTIAL CERTIFICATE OF CONTINUED OCCUPANCY

IS NOW REQUIRED As of July 1, 2012 any rental, lease or sale of any residential use will require the owner to apply and secure a certificate of continued occupancy from the Harrington Park Building Department. This inspection is in addition to the Smoke detector/Carbon Monoxide Certificate also filed through the Building Department. The following are some of the required items that will be inspected/confirmed.

1. Closing all outstanding construction permits.

2. Verifying the use of the property (one, two, multi-family etc).

3. Ensuring there is no sump pump connected into the sanitary system or any other unauthorized connection.

4. Sidewalk maintenance.

5. Any code compliance issues.

It is suggested to file the application for these inspections as soon as possible after your sale or rental is confirmed. By doing so will help ensure that there will be no delay in your closing or occupancy of the house.

If there are any questions, please feel free to contact the Building Department at 201-768-2585

FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK…

WE HAVE MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR I want to thank the residents of Harrington Park for their patience and understanding during Hurricane Sandy and her aftermath. While we collectively suffered some property damage, we were very fortunate compared to what happened in other parts of New Jersey and the metropolitan area. I also express my thanks and appreciation to all our emergency service groups. Because of their cooperation and preparation we were ready for the storm. Special thanks extended to: Michael Hunken, Emergency management Coordinator Chief Albert Maalouf and the Hp Police Department Mark Kiernan, DPW Supervisor and the DPW Staff Chief William Blackinton and the HP Volunteer Fire Department Captain Jeff Hargrove and the HP Volunteer Ambulance Corps The Borough Hall staff that worked without power and heat All the above did an outstanding job under difficult conditions. We will continue our clean up efforts during the remainder of the year. Once the leaves are removed, we will resume our chipping efforts, weather permitting. Many lessons were learned as a result of Hurricane Sandy and they will be addressed immediately. One of the most important is gaining knowledge of people, young or old, who are living alone and might need assistance. If you know of such a person, please let us know. We cannot help people who remain unidentifiable. While living four or five days without electricity and heat was very frustrating, it did bring out the best in most of our residents. We do have much to be thankful for. Again, as we move forward, I thank you for your patience and understanding as well as the help you extended to others.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR DR. MARY ANN SCHRAN

Based on both an extensive and impressive record of service to the Borough of Harrington Park, Dr. Schran will be honored as our Citizen of the Year at the Monday, December 17, 2012 Mayor and Council meeting at 7pm, at Borough Hall. Dr. Schran’s most recent accomplishment as the leader of our Green Team, was securing the Sustainable New Jersey Award for the Borough. Please join us as we acknowledge one of our most dedicated residents.

FROM THE MAYOR’S DESK…

HAPPY HOLIDAY TO ALL

I extend to all our residents my best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Happy and Healthy New Year. For many of us, 2012 has been a very trying year. Hopefully, 2013 will be a year of peace and tranquility for all humanity. If time permits, please join in some of the activities that will take place in Harrington Park to celebrate the season. We start the Holiday season on Sunday, December 2, 2012 AT 5PM at Lions Corner with our tree and menorah lighting ceremony. This is an exciting activity for children of all ages. The ceremony is followed by light refreshments at the HP Fire Department. I hope to see you there.

May everyone have a safe, happy and healthy holiday season and best wishes for the New Year,

Mayor Paul A. Hoelscher
