Former NFL great and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, Texas Motor Speedway President and General Manager Eddie Gossage, NASCAR legend Harry Gant and former NBA star and NASCAR team owner Brad Daugherty also plan to participate for all (or part) of this year’s ride. “The Kyle Petty Charity Ride makes a real difference in children’s lives,” said Walker, who’s participating in his seventh event in 2012. “It’s not only the kids we visit with along the route, it’s the donations that help sponsor thousands of trips to Victory Junction that make this ride so special.” Past notable riders include Robin Pemberton, Vice President of Competition, NASCAR; 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart; NASCAR drivers Michael Waltrip, Geoff Bodine, Steve Park, and Kenny Schrader; supermodel Niki Taylor; PGA golfer Davis Love III; Orange County Chopper co-founder Paul Teutul, Sr., among others. Drivers: A One-Stop Shop For Combating Rising Gas Prices

As gas prices remain volatile, many drivers are looking for ways to take control of the painful impact on their wallets. While Americans with

access to well-developed mass transit systems have alternative transportation options, there are millions more for whom driving is a daily necessity. While these drivers can’t control the unpredictable price of gas, they can look for ways to be more fuel efficient. For drivers looking to make a dramatic change, trading in a gas guzzler can make the biggest impact, but even a small upgrade in fuel economy will make a difference. A vehicle getting 30 mpg costs today’s average driver $968 less to fuel annually than one getting 20 mpg. To help drivers easily find all the information they need to make a smart purchase to “green” their daily driving routine, eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace, has launched eBay Green Driving, a one-stop resource designed to provide drivers with ways to reduce both money spent at the pump as well as their environmental impact. Helpful features on eBay Green Driving include: • Fuel Type Comparison Tool—Developed with data from the Department of Energy’s fuel economy.gov, this unique and user-friendly tool provides simple, side-by-side fuel technology comparisons complete with information on driving range, estimated vehicle cost, estimated annual fuel costs, ecological impact and more.

• Easy Searching—Visitors can use a simple browsing feature to quickly search available eBay vehicle inventory by type of fuel, body style or lifestyle to find their ideal fuel-efficient vehicle. Whether users have their heart set on an electric vehicle or simply want to get the most miles per gallon possible, this tool will help them find the best fuel-saving solution. • Green Driving News and Reviews—A

For an herb that’s so pretty and so deliciously aromatic, lavender has some

surprisingly practical uses.According to folk wisdom, the

flowering herb can repel insects, improve circulation and help induce relaxation and restful sleep.

While the herb is a popular aromatherapy aide for dealing with insomnia or stress, it is also used to help promote healthy, beautiful skin. The herb’s antiseptic, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties are used to soothe acne, psoriasis, eczema and other skin inflammations.

Because it’s a logical addition to skin care products, Canus Goat’s Milk Skin Care recently created a new line of lavender products that include a soap bar, lotion and body wash.

As with all Canus products, the new line is made with all-natural fresh goat’s milk, is gluten and phosphate free and has never been tested on animals.

Rich in protein, vitamins and minerals, fresh goat’s milk is uniquely hydrating and gentle on the skin.

About CanusWorking with goats, the

company’s mission is to create a healthier, softer, more natural world. For more information, go to www.canusgoatsmilk.com.

New Mexico is an Out-doors paradise - prob-lem is, not too many people know it.

While neighborly states affec-tionately refer to New Mexico as “the Land of Enchantment”, the state has long suffered from poor recognition throughout the lower 48 and -quite frankly- the world. However the long-awaited and soon-to-be-released New Mexico Tourism Bureau Ad campaign is bound to change all that. But some New Mexico entrepreneurs are not sitting idly by waiting to reap the benefi t of national ad-vertising push. They have taken matters in their own hands and are trying to make a difference -on many more levels than one. New Mexico Enchanted Hikes is one of these businesses. The Albuquerque-based Outfi t-ter offers year-round day hikes throughout the state, as well as snowshoeing day trips in the

winter and custom trips available upon request. With some competition in the area, it was necessary for the newly formed company to dis-tinguish itself in order to make a mark. And it has accomplished just that simply through its com-mitment to donating part of its proceeds to local wildlife rescue sanctuaries. This dedication to giving back is at the core of the company’s values and is clearly explained on their website. New Mexico Enchanted Hikes’ difference does not stop there as it boast a bilingual French-speaking guide who is always on hand to delight customers with tall tales of the Southwest. This unique feature makes it a destina-tion of choice when shopping for guide services. For more information, visit their website at www.NewMexi-coEnchantedHikes.com and visit them on Facebook too.

Hold on to your tissues: Allergies may be nothing to sneeze at, with pollen

and pollutants a problem indoors as well as out, but there are steps you can take to ease the season for sufferers. Here’s a look at the situation and a possible solution.

The ProblemPoor indoor air quality is now one

of the top five environmental risks to public health. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the air quality in your home could actually be five times worse than the outside air even in most cities.

Because Americans now spend 90 percent of their time indoors, breathing healthy air where you live, learn and work is critical. What’s causing it? In addition to pollen and ragweed, mold, dust, pet dander and tobacco collect in carpets and on furniture, contaminating the air. Older furnaces and faulty stoves contribute to the problem and, when left untreated, are one of the leading causes of asthma, allergies, even lung disease.

What may be even more alarming is that vacuum cleaners can exacerbate the problem. Every time

you vacuum, the machine may expose you to millions of microscopic particles, including dangerous carbon emissions released from the vacuum’s motor. The truth is, unless you’re using a vacuum that offers a true sealed system, the air that enters your vacuum is actually released back into the air.

A SolutionExplains Susan Goldsmith, managing director

at Interbasic Resources, a nationally recognized independent testing laboratory that conducts emissions tests on various brands of vacuum cleaners: “Using a well-engineered vacuum, which precludes harmful particles from launching into the air, is a matter of health and hygiene.”

Fortunately, some vacuum cleaner manufacturers have developed products to eliminate these harmful indoor pollutants.

For example, Miele introduced the world’s first HEPA-certified vacuum cleaner and developed a 12-layer filtration system. The company’s AirClean Sealed System has been proven by independent lab tests to be over 99.9 percent effective in capturing and retaining dangerous indoor air pollutants. Designed to trap and retain virtually all the dangerous particles that other vacuums let back into the air you breathe, this machine can help safeguard you, your family and your home.

Understanding and employing new-age technology is prov-ing crucial for agriculture to continue to advance and meet the growing global demands

so future generations can enjoy food secu-rity. Modern science can identify key traits of a plant to breed improved varieties with the highest possible yield and gen-erate new and cost-effective production methods. In other instances, genetic modi-fication can be used to achieve traits such as disease resistance or herbicide toler-ance. Today’s agriculture has a difficult task at hand: to feed an evergrowing popula-tion. Luckily, agriculture is armed with cutting-edge technology, helping farmers and industry professionals meet the ris-ing demand for food. Farmers now walk through fields planted with drought-resis-tant corn, holding smartphones equipped with weed identification apps, using all forms of technology to grow more from less. Within the past decade, the number of farms with Internet connection has in-creased by 20 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Farmers are using the Internet to get up-to-date in-

formation on commodity pricing, connect with other professionals via social media networks and broaden their agriculture knowledge. Farmers now take the Internet directly out to the field. Smartphone use among ag retailers was up 25 percent in 2010, allowing farmers to stand amongst their crop and look up images of pests or diseased plants, access the most recent commodity pricing to better negotiate, or receive storm updates before the clouds roll in. GPS systems allow farmers to de-liver tailored inputs for crops on a field-by- field or even row-by-row need. Weather continues to be a factor in crop yield and farm productivity. Last year in Texas alone, drought led to a record $5.2 billion agricultural loss. Syngenta and other seed companies have developed drought-tolerant corn seed to prevent such loss. Using new technologies like drought-tolerant seed is an important frontier for producers as they strive to improve yields and keep up with global demand. The global population is set to reach 9 billion by 2050, meaning farm-ers need to achieve at least a 70 percent increase in food production. Losing yield due to weather or other challenges is no longer an option.

Bringing plant potential to life is how the firm focuses on helping to feed the world. The company invests more than $1 billion a year in research and develop-ment projects. Syngenta scientists have also contrib-uted to Golden Rice; rice that has been genetically engineered to contain beta-carotene and other carotenoids. When consumed, the carotenoids are converted into provitamin A. Once approved for general distribution, Golden Rice is ex-pected to contribute significantly to an ef-fective, inexpensive and simple solution to vitamin A deficiency, a major global health problem caused by impoverished diets. The company’s scientists are helping to meet growers’ needs by developing new ways to increase crop yields, help crops resist diseases and insects, increase qual-ity and meet consumer demands. Helping farmers grow more from less while preserving land and water is vital for future food security..

The Unique Sparkle of Gold Exploration

With the price of gold rising to variable but generally escalating levels, our global fo-

cus has turned golden. Speculation is running rampant on whether gold is merely an asset class appreciat-ing due to fundamental forces or if there are graver implications for the future of the global economy. As the president of a gold explora-tion company, there is no doubt that the trajectory of my industry’s popularity is ever increasing as gold is the global topic du jour. This shimmering spotlight offers me the opportunity to set the record straight on the distinct differences between gold mining and mineral exploration companies. With the euphoria surrounding gold, more people than ever are confusing gold mining with gold exploration. Step aside Fred C. Dobbs, the gold prospector in the movie classic, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre,” portrayed by the iconic Humphrey Bogart, and un-derstand what genuine 21st century gold exploration is about today. Analogous to software development or the research and development process behind new pharmaceutical drugs, gold mining exploration is essentially the R&D side of mining. Gold mining exploration entails the process of finding commercially viable concentrations of gold miner-als to mine and is an intensive and organized form of mineral prospect-ing. Gold mining companies, on the other-hand, come aboard once a substantial quantity of mineral deposits have been identified and focus on the extraction or recovery of the mineral from its ores which often requires a combination of mineral processing, hydrometal-lurgical, comminution (the process where solid materials are reduced in size, by crushing and grinding) and extractive metallurgy processes to be performed. Gold exploration companies are not in the business of gold produc-tion, but rather gold discovery. The business model of most gold ex-ploration companies is to partner or sell the company to a gold mining company. We engage in cost effec-tive, cost-controlled exploration. While gold prices continue to reach record heights, many gold analysts predict prices will go even

gold prices and all of them have a requirement of replacing their respective annual production. If we choose the direction of going into production, and an offer comes in that the shareholders approve of, then so be it. If politicians in Europe and the United States rush to a rescue plan that makes sense, the price of gold will moderate, even go down. How-ever, at this time the market sees nothing but uncertainty.

About the author:Peter Schulhof is Director & Presi-dent of Westridge Resources, www.westridgeresources.com, (TSX-V: WST) a Canadian-based mineral exploration and development com-pany whose primary project is the Charay gold/silver property located in Western Mexico.

higher. They reason that investors will continue to turn to gold as a hedge against the falling euro and other global economic woes. At Westridge Resources, we will be able to be profitable with gold per ounce levels at far lower levels and as I’d like to see a healthier global economy, I am hoping for a more rational gold future. However, it would be hard for me to write a bet-ter script for a recommendation to buy gold as the supposed risk-free asset class of the US Government debt is now uncertain, we continue to grapple with an ongoing crisis in the eurozone, there’s political dysfunction in the US; and, our slowing/no growth economy which is bad for stocks. My company benefits in this type of gold environment as our pri-mary project is a Charay gold silver property located in Western Mexico, approximately 40 minutes by car northeast of Los Mochis, an ocean-

side city in the State of Sinaloa. The Charay project hosts a high-grade epithermal gold/silver vein system that has shown indications of bo-nanza grades. Our company management has deep bench strength with over forty years of extensive experience work-ing with epithermal vein systems in Mexico. There are significant cost advantages associated with the Cha-ray project due to mineralization at surface, ease of access and excellent infrastructure that currently exists. We have two paths that we can choose as far as our end game. We can go into production ourselves at a relatively low cost compared to many other exploration compa-nies. If our discovery is a large, economic gold discovery, we will likely become an acquisition target for some of the world’s largest gold companies. Clearly, the large cap gold producers are making stagger-ing amounts of money at today’s
