The crabbing season starts 1st December and the best time to catch them is any time from then on through to March. You can go crabbing on a boat or jetty using drop nets or wade into shallow waters with scoop nets. Boats are available for hire locally or you can join a guided tour. You don’t need a licence to catch crabs, however there are seasonal, size and bag limit regulations. CRABBING

Blue swimmer crabs are native to Mandurah, and the Peel-Harvey Estuary is renowned for its excellent crabbing. The crabbing season starts 1st December and the best time to catch them is any time from then on through to March. You can go crabbing on a boat or jetty using drop nets or wade into shallow waters with scoop nets. Boats are available for hire locally or you can join a guided tour. You don’t need a licence to catch crabs, however there are seasonal, size and bag limit regulations. The city celebrates this iconic local delicacy every year at Crab Fest in March.

Lake Clifton Thrombolite Reef

Half an hour south of Mandurah, the thrombolites offer visitors a glimpse of what life was like when the earth began. Scientists believe that thrombolites are one of the first life forms on earth, dating back approximately 570 million years, producing oxygen that made all subsequent life possible. The Lake Clifton thrombolites are approximately 2,000 years old and the largest in the southern hemisphere. A boardwalk over the lake enables them to be viewed from above, with the best time to see them from January to May when the water levels are low.
