Hessen features a central position in Germany and Europe, both geographically

and economically. It has the strongest economy of and the highest labor productivity

in Germany, making it the leading federal state with a gross domestic product by

workforce of around 70,600 Euros.

Hessen’s economic heart beats in the Rhine Main area. Over 70 percent of gross value

creation is generated in the greater Frankfurt area. As a hub for transportation, a con-

vention location, and a financial center, Frankfurt is one of the top ten leading econo-

mic regions worldwide.

Hessen is also known for its high quality of life, attracting companies and work force

from all over the world. People from more than 190 nations contribute to its cultural

variety, cosmopolitan outlook, and vibrant day to day living and shared activities in

institutions.

Is a communication platform: Organizing cooperative booths at international

trade fairs as well as symposiums, workshops and congresses on current bio-

technology discussion topics. Hessen-Biotech is administered and managed

In healthcare, a paradigm shift is under way towards more patient-centered indi-

vidualized treatment approaches. Personalized medicine offers the opportunity

for a more effective, better tolerated and economic healthcare practice. Ci3 is

spearheading personalized medicine, by focusing on the use of the human im-

mune system for the treatment of life-threatening conditions such as cancer,

autoimmune diseases and infections. It is our vision to combine the outstan-

ding scientific excellence and commercial expertise of our cluster partners in

the Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region, to develop new immune intervention

strategies with large economic potential and to position Ci3 among the prime

immunology clusters in Europe. To turn our vision into reality, Ci3 has establis-

hed a network of more than 120 partners from industry, research, patient care

and government, along the entire innovation and value chain. Ci3 is a Leading-

Edge-Cluster funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and

Research (BMBF) up to EURO 40 Million (plus the same amount from industry

partners) over a period of 5 years.

The FIZ Frankfurt Biotechnology Innovation Center, founded in 2002, is a market-

oriented technology center which offers small and medium-sized companies in

the life sciences sector a customized infrastructure for innovations with access

to collaborations, interdisciplinary networks and markets. Within the Science

City Frankfurt-Riedberg, the centrally located FIZ forms the bridge to the

economy and creates optimal working conditions for research, development,

networking and marketing. The FIZ has 15,000 sqm of laboratory and office

space with more than 350 highly specialized persons employed in the compa-

nies resident at FIZ. An additional 4,000 sqm of laboratory and office space will

be added in early 2013.

The companies in the FIZ benefit from the innovation infrastructure and

platform and additionally are provided access to potential partners and markets.

unit and a genetic information company

with a unique combination of excellence

in medical science, laboratory operations

and the development of IT-systems for the manage ment of

bio.logis provides genetic counseling and genetic diagnos -

tics covering the full spectrum of medical human genetics.

Through its unique Personal Genomics Service (PGS)

bio.logis provides individuals with access to their personal

genome. PGS delivers actionable genetic information that

has been scientifically proven to enable better health- and

lifestyle-related decisions.

Merz is a speciality pharmaceutical com-

pany that focuses on innovative drugs for

neurology as well as on solutions for me-

dical and aesthetic dermatology.

Merz has a leading position in neurology and focuses its

R&D and business development activities on projects in

the area of movement disorders – in particular on projects

complementing Merz’ proprietary botulinum neurotoxin

franchise. Merz’ botulinum neurotoxin type A is appro-

ved in cervical dystonia, blepharospasm and post-stroke

the treatment of glabellar frown lines. Merz’ aesthetics

portfolio is complemented by topical and injectable pro-

PPH plus provides operational and

The ViS platform is a game-changing

GFE Blut

GFE Blut was founded in November

2005 by three Red Cross Blood

donation services, with the primary

goal to develop, manufacture and distribute instruments

and test kits for the detection of transfusion relevant viru-

ses in blood donations by Nucleic acids Amplification Tech-

nology (NAT).

GFE Blut’s autoX-System and reagent kits were CE-IVD

approved and entered routine testing in 2010.

We provide the complete range of products required to

perform NAT testing on blood donations; including, but

not limited to, fully automated sample processors, virus

detection assays and software for data analysis.
