Background Knowledge: Background Knowledge: Songs/ChantsSongs/ChantsMoving and Learning is an important time to use kinesthetic learning to cement the English language for the Prekindergarten student. Music, movement, and chants help students remember large portions of language they would otherwise not be able to memorize.

Background Knowledge: Read Background Knowledge: Read AloudAloudThe read aloud provides the springboard for the direct instruction you will present in the whole group activity. The read aloud and the whole group activities are repeated throughout the week at the beginning of the year, and then the activities begin to vary as the year goes on and students acquire more language.

ESL CentersESL CentersCenter activities may be composed of story baskets containing previously read stories, or opportunities to practice other skills and concepts that have been previously introduced in whole group.
Small Group InstructionSmall Group Instruction
Small group instruction can be at a center so that students know how to use the materials independently during their
center time. This is a perfect opportunity to take anecdotal notes and determine any additional centers you might want to add.
Small Group InstructionSmall Group Instruction
ALL small group time should include significant amounts
of students speaking English, either by repeating the
teacher or producing their own ideas.
