The Islanders organization has been a staple in the Long Island community for 40 years. Since 1972, the team has dedicated countless time and energy to helping those in need. All of the players, coaching staff, alumni and front office personnel are here because of their strong characters and we all take great pride in giving back to the people of Long Island.

In 2000, Charles Wang bought the Islanders and brought an even greater level of community pride to the franchise and the surrounding area. He founded the Islanders Children’s Foundation (ICF) in 2003 to provide opportunities to children in the areas of education, health and youth hockey development. In that time, we’ve been lucky enough to raise over $5 million, assisting thousands of children and their families on Long Island and around the world.

This brochure allows you to browse the numerous events held each season, the various charities that partner with the team and the many in-house programs developed by the team. It’s an honor and a privilege to give back to every part of our island.

No matter how large or small any of these programs or charities are, we couldn’t help them and many wouldn’t exist if not for the continued support of our terrific fans. Thank you for helping the ICF these last eight years. The Foundation and the team is looking forward to your ongoing help in the years to come.

HistoryThe Islanders Children’s Foundation is a New York State not-for-profit foundation, qualified under Section 501 (c ) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and qualified as a public charity. Since its inception in 2003, the Islanders Children’s Foundation has raised more than $5 million for the cause of helping countless children on Long Island and around the world.

MissionThe Islanders Children’s Foundation is dedicated to supporting Long Island based non-profit organizations that provide opportunities to children as well as a variety of in-house youth programming. The foundation will work with children’s charities that focus on the areas of health, education and youth hockey development. Through the tireless efforts of the Islanders players, employees and management, partnered with the support of loyal sponsors and fans, donations are raised for the foundation.

The Islanders Children’s Foundation raises awareness and funds through a variety of charitable initiatives throughout the course of the season including the Islanders Annual Golf Outing, ICF Day at Adventureland and the Blue and White Scrimmage. Special fundraisers during Islanders games provide additional ways to bring in donations for the ICF. These fundraisers include the 50/50 Raffle, Chuck-A-Puck, Jerseys off the Back, Valentine’s Day Puck Surprise, Holiday Grab Bag and Pink Stick Auction, just to name a few.

The Islanders are true believers in the youth that surround us each day and that every child needs opportunities that will help them become successful in life. We also see the hardships that surround many families on Long Island, whether a loved one is suffering from illness or whether the economy has taken a toll on the families around us. These families require the support from everyone in the community to make Long Island a better place.

The Islanders Children’s Foundation not only works with other non-profit programs, but also funds a variety of in-house youth programs. The Islanders@School Program, Holiday Hospital Visits and Toy Shopping Event, “Bossy’s Bunch” Charity Ticket Program, Amateur Youth Hockey Development Program and Islanders Fight Cancer were all created to benefit the youth of Long Island.

This assembly allows the students to learn these life lessons from professional athletes.

Amateur hockey development has been a major focus on Long Island since the Islanders were founded in 1972. In those 40 years, the development programs have grown exponentially. Today, there are year-round clinics to teach kids of all ages how to skate and play hockey. The Islanders also help to develop youth hockey on an international level by hosting foreign teams for an international tournament at the Nassau Coliseum every January and by sending Long Island Pee-Wee players to an annual international tournament in Quebec City. The Islanders are committed to growing the sport of hockey on Long Island and around the world and these programs, funded by the ICF, are the building blocks of that growth.

Hockey is for eVeryoneThe Islanders are proud to support the NHL’s Hockey is for Everyone initiative. The Islanders have a variety of programs that cater to hockey players of all types and abilities. We believe that everyone who wants to participate in the game of hockey should have that ability.

islAnDers Hockey AcADeMyEntering its third year, the Islanders Hockey Academy continues to provide entry-level hockey players, ages 6-14, with an opportunity to be introduced to the game of ice hockey. Participants in the program receive full equipment, instruction and ice time. Players that participate in the program enjoy visits from current Islanders players and/or coaches at their on-ice sessions.

“I think the NHL has done a wonderful job promoting the game all over the world. All of the owners around the NHL want to see the growth of this sport. This was something that started as a direct connection to China. We would bring kids to the United States, send our kids to China, etc. Every owner has a lot of things that they do in a philanthropic way and this is just one thing we do with the Islanders. The goal is to see this tournament grow into a 30 to 40 team event that offers kids not only the chance to play hockey on NHL ice, but see a new country.”
