A flying trade for all weights and a lot more could have been sold. Overall average 196p the highest seen for
this week in the South West. 14 pens over 200p to a top of 208p from Chris Jenn, Fairholme, Woolsery,
followed by Jackie Felce who realised 205p for 2 pens of 44Kgs £90.20. Ms A Martin, North Corscombe,
Okehampton realized 203p for her 2 pens of 44Kgs £89.20. More pens over £90 than under to a top of £95
from John Turner, Penleaze, Marhamchurch.

Smaller entry met a much faster trade up around £8 to £10 a head. Top on the day was £93.50 from Wendy
Jeves, Scadgehill, Bude. Mules topped at £70 from 3 vendors.
161 STORE LAMBS
A good entry met a much faster trade up around £8 a head. Several pens over £70 to a top of £79 from Mr
Govier, Great Heal, South Molton.

A superb entry for the time of year saw a much improved trade with new buyers and sellers choosing to
trade at Holsworthy for the very first time. Overall top call of the day was £400 given for the best of the
British Blues in from Mike Greenaway and going home with its new owner, Rob Honey of Marhamchurch.
The “Folk 2 Folk” champion of the day was the pick of 5 British Blue bulls in from Messrs R & S Home, East
Putford hitting £380 and purchased by Messrs Rogers of Barnstaple. The regular entry from Phil Reed of
Milton Damerel topped at £342 with Mike Hopper of Whitstone at £310, Messrs Cleave of South Youlstone
at £308 and £300 with Rodney Allin at £295 and another 6 vendors selling British Blues in excess of £265.
Charolais Bulls sold to a premium reaching £330 on behalf of Messrs Headon of North Tawton with Michael
Vanstone of Buckland Brewer at £330 and £282. Best baby Herefords (name sires) hit £255 for Messrs
Home with Limousin’s to £281 for Mr K Furse and £265 for Messrs Merrett and £230 for Messrs Monks of
Okehampton. Angus bulls (named sires) topped at £214 for J and S Tancock of Callington with Fleckveich
bulls to £91 for Mike Greenaway. For the second week running Holstein bulls met a very strong trade with
the best to £93 from John Tallamy of Bradworthy with 3 weeks old to £91 Messrs Monks, £79 from D & L
Johns of Bodmin and £70 for Messrs Vanstone. Top 10 Holstein bull calves averaged £81.30.
Best baby British Blue heifers hit £252 for Messrs Colgrove Partners of St Ewe, Cornwall with Messrs Home
at £250 and Phil Reed at £245. Herefords reached £155 for Messrs CF Biscombe and Son of Camelford with Charolais heifers at £285 for Oaklands Farm. Limousin heifers topped at £242 for Renson Farm with Daniel
Ley of Stibb Cross at £230.
Speaking after the sale James Morrish of Kivells said “It has been a very successful 2018 in the calf pens with a
19% increase in numbers and a very respectable increase of value compared to 2017” “My personal thanks
must go to our vendors, purchasers and staff who have made my first year of selling the calves at Holsworthy
a successful one.

As expected a short entry of cattle with a surprisingly good number of buyers in attendance. Top call was £920
for a 17month old Aberdeen Angus steer from Mr R Honey, Higher Beer, Marhamchurch, whose two 17 month Charolais steers fetched £910. A superb consignment of 10 month old pure bred Limousin steers from
Mr G May, Port Isaac fetched £780. Entries now being taken for January, early entries appreciated
for advertising.
A short entry saw a top call of 84p for a 706Kgs Holstein
from Messrs Greenaway, Tetcott. Channel Island cows from
Messrs Lord Newton Farms, averaged 68p.

An excellent quality entry met a flying trade
for the final sale of 2018 seeing one of the
strongest trades of the whole year with six
lots realising £2000 and over!
Trade topped at £2050 for a second calving cow ‘Inwardleigh Marc Happy’ yielding 44Kgs and sold on behalf of
WA Hooper & Son, Inwardleigh. Trade for milky, quality cows saw an exceptional trade with MJ Grills & Son
of Marhamchurch breaking the £2000 barrier on three occasions for ‘Westlay Barney Helga, Westlay Altabarney
Felicity and Westlay Barney Smokey’. Phil Reed of Milton Damerel also broke the £2000 mark with a 2nd calver
‘Sandyhill Seaspray 29’ selling at £2020. A very good trade was seen for all ages with 3rd calvers topping at £1600
for ‘Bartinney Jordan Dakota GP84’ on behalf of DW & RJ Warren, Penzance.
Heifers had a phenomenal trade with one of the highest averages of the year with an all Heifer average of
£1829 with over 70% of the entry realising over £1800. Topping the trade at £2000 was ‘Inwardleigh George
Lesson 2’ on behalf of WA Hooper & Son who completed the double of topping both the Cow and Heifer
sections. Phil Reed saw his Heifer ‘Gidcott Norman Erica’ top at £1900 and MJ Grills & Son saw their Heifer
‘Westlay Barney Astrid 3’ top £1880 which brought their consignment average to a very impressive £1975.
An In Calf Heifer ‘Trelana Merchandise Dot 139’ from the Trelana Herd on behalf of John and Mark Burnard of
Pyworthy sold at £1100. A run of Dry Cows and In Calf Heifers from Lord Newton Farms, Lewes, East Sussex
comprised grazing, crossbred types due Feb-May sold on a trade in line with recent sales but looked value for
anyone with spare feed and house room. Calves enjoyed an excellent trade with black and white calves topping at £330 on behalf of TG Hawken, Port Isaac. A good run of grazing type calves from CP Richards & Son, Hayle
received plenty of demand and sold to a top of £120.
