When I arrived in Johannesburg PH Janneman was standing there to greet me We

immediately hit it off on a positive note that resonated the entire trip

The hunting was outstanding and challenging We saw all sorts of different species of

wildlife every day The shots were as long or as short as I wanted them to be I shot a 30shy

06 with 180 grains Barnes TTSX bullets My shots ranged from 150 to 270 yards

Butch with one of his cull ostriches

Throughout the week I took two impala a very impressive OLD Wildebeest a Burchells

Zebra and a Red Hartebeest that was so big he looked awkward We also had a great

time culling Ostrich I forget how many but the number 11 comes to mind I will use those

skins to make some fine leather goods for my wife daughter and granddaughter

Please enjoy some photographs of Butchs great harvest

Sal sent us a really great report about his hunt and it is with great pleasure that we share

this with you

Sal and Anthony sighting in their rifles with PH PD

We spotted a very nice bushbuck and pursued him all morning PH PD spotted his head

sticking up from behind a knocked over tree I waited and he suddenly got up on his front

legs and I took the shot My bullet passed right through both shoulders and we recovered

him about twenty yards away

Sal next took a very nice nyala

This was thanks to the keen eyesight of Norman (one of Somerbys skinners) PD

confirmed that it was a shooter and one shot through both shoulders at about 225

yards

We managed to spot and stalk a very mature and wide Kudu bull We played the wind

exactly right and it walked right to us

Sal next harvested a really nice waterbuck followed by a grand bushpig

We snuck up into the stand and within ten minutes we could hear the pigs About ten

minutes after that we saw one and it quickly disappeared only to bring back four others

about two minutes later Five minutes after that our pig arrived and eventually presented

a clear shot once it turned and faced us The shot was placed right behind its head and

pig immediately dropped in place

bulls Once identified we stalked to about 60 yards and I was instructed by PH

Janneman to take him Once broadside I dropped the buffalo with a spine shot with the

trusted 375 Winchester with 300 grain Barnes X As the death bellow was heard the

remaining herd returned to investigate The buffalo were restless coming back and forth

and surprisingly another bull showed up PD put my brother on the second buffalo and

again another fine shot from the 375 Winchester in the vitals The buffalo may have

ran 50 yards and dropped All this probably within 10 minutes I must say nothing truer

than first shot placement

On the third day Sable was on the list The day started with us tracking sable within 50 shy

60 yards We were trying out the VerneyshyCarron double rifle in a 450 NE as well as the

Shaub Family Holiday

We were really excited to welcome Brian and Michelle Shaub to South Africa with their

daughters for a great hunt and some sightshyseeing in beautiful Africa We met the Shaubs

at the Harrisburg Outdoor Show in 2015 and we were thrilled to host them on their very

first trip to Africa

Brian has to say about Somerby

This was our first trip for our family to Africa and we were very apprehensive There

were many unknowns and we were forced to simply trust Somerby that everything would

be taken care of They did a great job from start to finish and we had a wonderful family

experience Somerbys greatest assets are its people Charles and Lindie took great care

of us and went the extra mile from the time we arrived at the airport until they dropped us

off for our flight home

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

bulls Once identified we stalked to about 60 yards and I was instructed by PH

Janneman to take him Once broadside I dropped the buffalo with a spine shot with the

trusted 375 Winchester with 300 grain Barnes X As the death bellow was heard the

remaining herd returned to investigate The buffalo were restless coming back and forth

again another fine shot from the 375 Winchester in the vitals The buffalo may have

this with you

Sal and Anthony sighting in their rifles with PH PD

We spotted a very nice bushbuck and pursued him all morning PH PD spotted his head

sticking up from behind a knocked over tree I waited and he suddenly got up on his front

legs and I took the shot My bullet passed right through both shoulders and we recovered

him about twenty yards away

Sal next took a very nice nyala

Next up was a warthog

We had a great experience stalking this pig Jenelle PD and I stalked up near the

watering hole and saw him He was about 150 yards at this time Using PDs shoulder as

my rifle rest I took the shot and the pig immediately collapsed upon the bullets impact

The next day Sal took a really great red hartebeest

Brian has to say about Somerby

This was our first trip for our family to Africa and we were very apprehensive There

were many unknowns and we were forced to simply trust Somerby that everything would

be taken care of They did a great job from start to finish and we had a wonderful family

experience Somerbys greatest assets are its people Charles and Lindie took great care

of us and went the extra mile from the time we arrived at the airport until they dropped us

off for our flight home

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

my rifle rest I took the shot and the pig immediately collapsed upon the bullets impact

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

bulls Once identified we stalked to about 60 yards and I was instructed by PH

Blaser 375 Both very nice weapons with good balance and aesthetics Two nice Sable

bulls were taken by the end of the day after some hard hunting

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

confirmed that it was a shooter and one shot through both shoulders at about 225

During their trip the Crisafullis were generous enough to donate some much needed

school supplies and learning aids to an extremely underprivileged early learning centre

close to one of our hunting areas They did this through the SCI blue bag initiative We

would like to thank the Crisafullis for their generosity and kindheartedness

We have had an increasing number of hunters bringing over supplies for schools in

need This is making a massive difference in the lives of these disadvantaged children

To get involved please read more about SCIs Blue Bag Initiative here

We would like to thank the Crisafulli family for joining us on such a great safariagain Thank you for a fantastic time and thank you for your generosity

As dusk was approaching our PHs spotted a trophy impala at about 150 yards My son

was first to task and took him with the first shot with the Tikka 260 Very impressed and

proud as a father

On our second day my brother and I were after buffalo the main reason we were here

We drove to the North West Province in the morning and started scouting until we found

a herd Stalking took a while as they were grazing and we wanted to identify the mature

bulls Once identified we stalked to about 60 yards and I was instructed by PH

Blaser 375 Both very nice weapons with good balance and aesthetics Two nice Sable

bulls were taken by the end of the day after some hard hunting

Brian was extremely pleased with the performance of his new Red Rock Precision rifle

chambered in 28 Nosler Five of his six trophies dropped immediately with only the kudu

going 40 yards before expiring All of the shots were between 150 and 250 yards Brian

has hunted on horseback for elk in the States before and was really looking forward to

doing the same here in Africa Brian maintains that the most enjoyable of his hunts was

on horseback for Vaal rhebok They were able to stalk within 100 yards for the shot This

is a very rare trophy shy congratulations Brian

than first shot placement

On the third day Sable was on the list The day started with us tracking sable within 50 shy

60 yards We were trying out the VerneyshyCarron double rifle in a 450 NE as well as the

Blaser 375 Both very nice weapons with good balance and aesthetics Two nice Sable

bulls were taken by the end of the day after some hard hunting

off the day with a fantastic 170 yard shot with the Tikka 260 dropping the blesbuck My

brother was next He found a exceptional trophy waterbuck and after some tracking and

a runshyin with some rhinos it was taken with the 375 Winchester As the day was winding

down the hunt for a bull black wildebeest closed the chapter A mature bull was spotted
