Peter’s letter gives an explicit explanation of what our baptism means: it is an appeal we make to God for a clear conscience. How do we obtain this clear conscience? The words pro- claimed by Jesus immediately following his temptation show us the way: “Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). It might be a good spiritual exercise to keep these readings before us throughout the entire season of Lent, a means to help us return to a life lived by our baptismal promises. Copyright © J. S. REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL Lent is the time of year we devote to scrutinizing our lives in the light of our baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus. PRAYER OF THE WEEK February 26, 2012, First Sunday of Lent Grant, almighty God, through the yearly observances of holy Lent, that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Reflection question: What Lenten observances do I intend to keep this year? Successful marriages don’t work on automatic pilot – at least not for long. Like a garden, they require constant attention: fertilizing, watering, and weeding. Healthy marriages, like gardens, don’t die suddenly. More often they fade away from a gradual lack of attentiveness, letting things slide, taking each other for granted. Join us for a Worldwide Marriage En-counter and discover God’s plan for joy, romance and passion in your marriage. The next available WWME weekend in this diocese is March 23-25 at the Franciscan Center in Tampa. For information call (813) 270-7832 or go on-line at www.wwme-tampabay.org. 2012 MULTI MEDIA YOUTH ARTS CONTEST Calling all Artists! Do you have a special talent? Do you care about poverty in the US? The Incarnation job support ministry meets on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 at St. Brendan's room outside of St. Michaels Hall. If you are unemployed, underemployed, or trying to get back into the work-force, we invite you to join our group, a faith-based group of fellow mem-bers of our parish family, formed to provide support and assistance to help you get your "next" job. EMPLOYERS: Do you have vacancies in your company? Please help us by emailing a summary of the vacancies including requirements/skills needed, and we'll distribute this information to our job support members. Email to: [email protected]

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize one of our dedicated parish office volunteers, Mr. Martin Butler who helps in the business office.

A few weeks ago, our business manager, Paul Hunter was seri-ously injured as a result of an accidental fall in his home and Martin was called and asked to take care of vital tasks in the business office during Paul’s absence.

Martin took care of the payroll, bill paying, banking, sending out donation statements and more…

We are very grateful for his dedicated service and we thank him for his generosity of time, talent and treasure!

Memorial Fund The Memorial Fund consists of donations given in honor of loved ones. These donations are used to purchase church items in memory of the person(s) honored. Donating to the Memorial Fund is an opportunity both to remember your loved ones and help the parish defer the cost of much needed items for worship and prayer. Examples of items purchased by the Fund include vestments, altar hangings, sacristy items, etc. The Fund may also be used for improvement and enhancement of our church facilities and church grounds. Gifts both large and small are most welcome and appreciated. In gratitude to those donating to the Memorial Fund, we will issue you an “In Memoriam” certificate, list the memorialized item in our bulletin on one weekend, and post your item and the name(s) of your loved one(s) on our ICC Memorials webpage in thanksgiving for one year. Please note, in order to maintain the dignity and beauty of certain items, unless it can be marked in an inconspicuous place, the actual item will not be inscribed. For suggestions on what to memorialize, please see the “In Need Of” list on the webpage. At this time we need vestment hangers and concelebrant chasubles. To arrange a memorial, please contact Irene Martinez at the church office either by email, or call 813-885-7861.

FORMER TC STAR SCHMIDT IMPRESSIVE AT DAYTON Former ICS Alumni and Tampa Catholic High track and field star Maddi Schmidt, daughter of parishioners, Stan and Julie Schmidt is enjoying an impressive sophomore season at the University of Dayton. At last weekend’s Atlantic 10 Championships in Rhode Island, Schmidt placed fourth in the 60 me-ters hurdles and 7th in the triple jump. Tying a personal best, she ran an 8.93 seconds in the hur-dles and her triple jumped mark of 37 feet, 11.5

inches established a new lifetime best. Schmidt is already in the all-time top five of six events at UD, with both her triple jump and hurdles marks putting her in the No. 2 posi-tion all-time for the program. From TBO.COM
