There are 4 geographic sections in Vietnam. The Red river Delta is in the north while the Mekong
river Delta is in the south. To prevent flooding a system of
dikes and canals has been built.
South of the Red river delta is the Truong Son or Annam
Highlands. A plateau , the Central Highlands occupies the center of the country between
Cambodia and the South China Sea.
The Mekong river Delta is a fertile, marshy flatland which
extends from the Central Highlands to the mangrove
swamps on the Ca Mau peninsula. The Chinese are
building dams on the Mekong within their territory for
hydroelectric power.
