Greetings from your Board of Directors. stMarch 31 represents the mid point of
our fiscal year and affords an opportunity to assess progress year to date. I confirm we are on track recording good growth in assets, new owners and solid financial results.
Owners are aware that we have focused on leasing the vacant space in our building. Full lease-up was recently achieved by signing a five year lease
with the City of Fredericton to house its North Side Fredericton Community Policing Program. This is an exciting development and the Community Policing presence enhances our location and profile.
An important responsibility of your Board is participation in the communication process with government to discuss system challenges and to lobby for friendly legislation. Your Executive, participated in two events during the last quarter. The first involved meeting with the Premier and Senior Ministers and the second was a CUCNB organized, MLA Reception. The Premier and his government affirmed strong support for the Credit Union & Caisse Populaire Systems. Issues that were discussed related to, deposit guarantees, loan programs for small business, review of the Credit Union Act and potential new legislation enabling Credit Unions to generate revenues in other areas, i.e., insurance etc.,. The objective is always to ensure that Credit Unions compete effectively.
The new Capital CU enhanced Web Site was released in February. We invite you to visit it at www.capitalcu.nb.ca. It is a work in progress, however, we believe you will be pleased with the format and the level of information available.
Your board is focused on committee and governance responsibilities ensuring operations are sound and in compliance with regulations. Six delegates will attend the Annual General Meeting of the NB
thSystem scheduled April 12 , in Moncton. An interesting discussion on the concept of amalgamating the Centrals of NB, PEI and NS will occur this year.
Following this unusual winter of snow falls and temperatures we expect you are looking forward to warmer days and the related outdoor spring and summer activities. Enjoy and we will report back to you near the end of the next quarter.
