Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word

In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus warn his disciples about what to expect in the last days: earthquakes, famines and plaques. Yet he says that “not a hair on your head will be destroyed.” In the first reading Malachi also announces the com-ing day of wrath. Yet he too, promises safe-ty for those who fear God’s name. Let us listen to this “sun of justice with its healing rays” and ponder God’s love and mercy in the midst of even the greatest revolu-tion.***
